Chapter 1: The start

Chapter Text

The night had always been Shinsou's bane.

Ever since he was a kid, he'd never been able to sleep straight away. Sometimes, he couldn't sleep at all even. During those sleepless nights, he'd taken the habit of climbng up to a rooftop and look up, watching the stars and the moon whenever he could. They used to remind him that, in the infinite vacum space of the Universe, he'd always have the stars as his friends and the moon as his knight. That they'd protect him, when others didn't.

You see, Shinsou's childhood wasn't the best. He'd lost his mother very soon in a robery, when he was only five years old. After that, when Shinsou was only seven years old, his stepfather, the person who was supposedly taking care of him, found out what his quirk did. Shinsou learnt what a muzzle was on his eighth birthday and, on Christmas that same year, Shinsou found out why women and children were so scared of walking alone at night. Yes, Shinsou's childhood was hell and this wasn't even the tip of the iceberg.
So, here he was, on the rooftop of the Heights Alliance class-1B was given, stargazing. He liked to call it stargazing, but, in reality, he just stands there dissociating, scenes from his past coming back to haunt him restlessly. A pack of cigarettes and a lighter by his side. One hand coming up to his mouth, holding the cancer stick between his index and middle finger. The boy takes a drag out of it, holding it before releasing it. For him, that tiny little drag he took out of his cigarette erased all of his problems, just like Aizawa-Sensei's quirk erased quirk after quirk with expertise.

Where did he get the cigarettes, you ask? Well, turns out class-1A has a dealer capable of getting almost everything anyone needed. No, that dealer wasn't Sero, no matter how much pot that guy smokes. No, the dealer was someone less expected and more... Sparkly.

Aoyama Yuuga

Shinsou had, admittedly, been quite surprised when Sero had told him who his pot dealer was. Who would have thought the sparkly, cheese lover French guy smuggled drugs into school? Not Shinsou, but he did find an explanation for this. Since Aoyama loved cheese, most of his favourites weren't for sale in Japan, so, whenever he needed some, he'd call one of his cousins, who'd call an aunt of the best French cheese manufacturer in France and all Aoyama had to do was pick it up in costards. Which was very much illegal to do, because he never payed for anything. And when his class found out, they started asking him favours and, in return, he'd only ask for one thing: Their phone numbers. For safety reasons, because he cared for them. So, that's how Shinsou found himself in the twink's room 3 weeks ago, holding money in exchange for a full pack of cigarettes, which, by the end of the day, was half empty.

Looking back at it, Shinsou felt amused at how awkward and scared he'd felt, but later on his thoughts came back. The ones about his past, about all the bad things he'd been through. So, like always, he tookdrag after drag of his cigarette, and then from another one and another one. The box was almost empty by now, only three sticks remaining and Shinsou felt remorse come to bite him in the ass. What was he thinking? Those cigarettes should have lasted for the whole week and they'd only lasted two days. And it was way past three a.m, he shouldn't be outside. He found himself hoping that none of his teachers found him while taking another drag.

"Kid, you know those are enough to get you expelled, right?" A rough, low voice spoke from behind him, unamused. 'You've got to be kidding me.' - Shinsou thought as he turned around slowly to face the person. He was terrified at who he found standing there looking at him, like a father looks disappointingly at his son.

'I'm so fucking screwed'
