Work Text:
The small one leads the way. With bounce and confidence, the footprints he leaves behind him are completely unique to him in a way few people can replicate. However, as far as he may walk ahead he doesn’t leave the ones he is walking with.
The other small one with a streak of white going through her hair is heard long before she is seen, with her armour clinking together in an almost musical way. She steps with surety as though there is no doubt in her mind that her foot will meet the ground.
You notice the tall one next, with scars running along his body and a hungry grin on his face. When he walks it seems that the earth itself needs to brace for his every step. There isn’t much deviation in his step, he walks forward because that is the only way he can go.
In contrast, the one with dark flowing hair and a roguish smile walks so lightly that he leaves nary a footprint behind. You do a double-take to see that he is indeed walking on solid ground. When he walks it's not just forward, he walks and moves in between his friends, sometimes ahead and sometimes doubling back through them. Yet he never travels far from the girl with the matching hair.
She walks with grace, not one that comes naturally, she walks with a lightness that is practiced, and has been earned. And while she walks forward with her friends her eyes are never still, constantly watching anyone who might step too close. Her footsteps are small, dwarfed by the bear prints that march in line with hers.
The bear is the most unusual of the small trope, yet he walks as though there is nowhere else he could be. While he sticks close to the women with dark hair he interacts with the others, allows pats from the dark haired man and growling and the small confident one. And while he may growl at him it is in jest, which is clear to see when a stranger walks too close to the group and the bear growls, protectively.
Two more members walk just at the back of the small trope. A woman with a bright smile and bright eyes, and a man with shocking white hair and quiet demeanour. When the smiling woman walks, there seems to be a breath of wind that clears the path for her, while shadows darken the young mans' every step. Despite the glaring difference in looks and personality, their footsteps were in sync. They both walked as though they carry something heavy, like a cloak, weighing them down. When they left footprints, it seemed as though they had no choice, that they would always leave a mark on the ground. And when they walk forward it's because it's the only way they can go.
These eight, this group, could not be more different from one another and yet. And yet they walk together not because they have to but because they don’t want to be with anyone else. You watch as they cheerfully and loudly leave the little street you are on. You watch until the only thing left of them, are their footprints.
