Work Text:
The sky was clear and full of stars. Any normal Windclan cat would be relaxing as they felt the breeze and stared at the beautiful night sky. Jaypaw wasn’t a normal Windclan cat.
Jaypaw had no idea what to think. He felt more tired than he’d ever felt, but he couldn’t go to sleep. Maybe it was the fact that he was sleeping underneath the open sky instead of in a den, without any cover to hide from predators. Maybe it was the fact that he was far away from everything and everyone he knew. Maybe, it was the fact that Hollypaw and Lionpaw weren’t there, sleeping next to him, warming him with their thick coats.
Or maybe it was the fact that he had a cat he was sure hated him on top of him .
“Would you stop shifting! Some of us are trying to sleep!” Breezepaw meowed annoyedly.
When Jaypaw accepted his father’s offer to join his clan, he sure didn’t expect this. Actually, he didn’t even expect to find out his real father was from another clan, or that his parents weren’t his real parents. His mother and Leafpool (his real mother apparently?) has been lying to the three of them since the beginning! He wondered what life would’ve been like if he and his siblings were born on Windclan.
Pointless thoughts aside, if Jaypaw knew all the drama he would have faced by changing clans then he’d -well, actually he would’ve still changed clans. He was getting nowhere on Thunderclan, and there’s only so much doubt and pity a cat can take before they break.
That said, a warning would be nice! His father who he’d just met already had a mate and kit! Even though it wasn’t his fault, Jaypaw couldn’t help but feel like a homewrecker. He hoped Nightcloud wouldn’t hold it against him. If she did -well it wouldn’t matter. Jaypaw wasn’t wasting his chance. He was becoming a warrior yes or yes.
His thoughts were abruptly stopped when he felt someone grooming his face.
“ What are you doing ?!” He whispered-hissed at his new half-brother.
“Getting you to sleep, stop moving!” Breezepaw snapped.
Jaypaw has never been groomed with such hate before but this was a day full of firsts apparently.
Even though he could feel Breezepaw and the surrounding cats’ displeasure, the way Breezepaw groomed him was… weirdly calming? It reminded him of his mother, back when he and his siblings were just kits. Jawpaw could feel his eyes slowly close as he grew more and more tired.
He asked himself if it was Squirrelflight or Leafpool in the memory before finally closing his eyes for good and falling asleep.
He had a long day ahead of him tomorrow after all.
Beezepaw stared at the sleeping apprentice bellow him with slight surprise. He hadn’t expected the trick his mother used to use to get him to sleep back when he was a kit to actually work but… maybe Jaypaw was more of a kit than he’d thought.
Throwing such unnecessary thoughts aside, Breezepaw got more comfortable on top of his clanmates and finally went to sleep, ignoring Nightcloud’s pondering look.
