However, there's more to Alastor's erratic behavior than meets the eye, and unknown forces work from the shadows to disrupt everything he's come to care about.

It seemed present company had forgotten that their time in the sun was up – they themselves were the dead. Alastor could never forget.
"It's true. Tell us about these ghosts, Pentious, or accept further eternal torment," he lied, crossing a leg over his knee.

Summary
Much of Lucifer’s life has been filled with the fog of depression, so he clings all the harder to the few brights spots that can light up his world. Such as his relationship with Alastor.
They have been partners for a while when Lucifer learns that the Radio Demon has sold his soul. Alastor insists he can handle the situation himself, even when his contractor keeps hurting him; punishing him for trying to weasel out of their deal.
Lucifer decides to help. He wants to protect Alastor, to keep him safe by his side ... but freeing the Radio Demon turns out to be more difficult than the devil had thought it would be ...

Carefully, Lucifer slipped the engagement ring onto the Radio Demon’s finger.
“It’s beautiful, darling." Alastor grinned. "I can’t wait to shove it in certain people’s faces.”
“Of course.” Lucifer laughed and kissed him again. “Oh, Alastor. My Alastor.” The devil smiled, wrapping his arms tightly around him. “... I guess it will finally be proper to have you in my bed soon.”
Suddenly, Alastor felt cold. “... yes. It will be.”
“I can’t wait,” Lucifer whispered, his voice low and full of promises.
Alastor smiled. His insides twisted with dread.
Alastor had always struggled with intimacy. But instead of telling Lucifer any of this, admitting that he’s ‘broken’ in such a fundamental way, he told a tiny white lie: he was waiting till marriage. For years, that lie kept him safe, and no lines had to be crossed.
... until the night Lucifer proposed.

And now you saunter in here, making truly hideous threats of corporate espionage, attempting to seize both the food and the milk. "Men truly lose all their moral compasses as they age", Lucifer chimed in sagely with a heavy nod, "What, you thought you could outsmart us? Think we're just a pair of absolute fools, huh, little buddy?"
