“I just need to make sure you know that you are the dumbest smart person I have ever met.”
Lauren looked down and cringed, “Will you just let it go?” She asked quietly.
Leyla laughed as she came up behind Lauren and snaked her arms around her waist, pulling her into a backward hug. She leaned forward and whispered, “Never,” into Lauren’s ear. Her voice was soft and teasing at the same time.
All Lauren could do was smile and shake her head. Before even asking the question, she knew what Leyla’s answer would be. She was right anyway; Lauren did fit the description.
The pair stayed the way for a few more minutes, enjoying each other’s company. Their relationship was still new, and even if Lauren had taken a week off to be with her, she still had to figure out how to manage her work and personal life.
“I’m serious though, you tried to break up with me because you like me too much,” Leyla said, not moving from her current position.
Taking in a deep breath, Lauren turned around to face her girlfriend, “You’re right. What can I do to make it up to you?”
Leyla looked up and pretended to take a long time to think of an answer, “You owe me a kiss.”
“Really? that’s it?” Lauren asked, not truly believing that a simple kiss was going to make up for her stupidity, and, without another thought, gave Leyla a sweet kiss.
It wasn’t hot and heavy like so many of their previous kisses had been; this one was sweet, the kind of kiss couples give each other while in the honeymoon phase.
Leyla pulled away, their foreheads still touching, and whispered, “Oh honey, you are just getting started.”
