the domino effect (to be fair, sim jaeyun started it)

Summary:

The domino effect, as described in a dictionary, is, "a chain reaction produced when one event sets off a chain of similar events."

Park Sunghoon would like to say his life, (or at least a huge part of it), was a domino effect. A bunch of dominoes, or moments, big and small, caused by the same starting point. That point, also known as the first domino, also known as the slip up, according to Park Sunghoon, was entirely Sim Jaeyun's fault.

Notes:

DISCLAIMER: This is simply a work of fiction using real people as references. I would never push a relationship and/or sexuality on any of these people. I'm not implying that any of the relationships and scenes in this work are real. It’s just for fun, and just fiction.
-heyo!!! this takes place in my canon compliant universe (check the series this work is a part of) and is technically a prequel! or at least, the first two chapters are. 'beauty isn't perfection without you.' takes place immediately after chapter 2, if you want to check it out.

Chapter 1: a slip up can end in one of two ways (catastrophe, or "this")

Summary:

Jake pouted, lifting up the spoon and looking at Sunghoon with round eyes, "Am I just a trash can to you?"

"Yes," Sunghoon responded, not faltering under Jake's pleading look, which quickly turned into a smirk.

"Didn't know you'd want to kiss trash that badly."

The domino effect, as described in a dictionary, is, “a chain reaction produced when one event sets off a chain of similar events.”

Park Sunghoon would like to say his life, (or at least a huge part of it), was a domino effect. A bunch of dominoes, or moments, big and small, caused by the same starting point. That point, (also known as the first domino, also known as the slip up), according to Park Sunghoon, was entirely Sim Jaeyoon’s fault.

After all, it was Jake who followed him into the bathroom that day. It was Jake who sat there as he did his skin care, holding eye contact without wavering but never once speaking. It was a comfortable silence, or that’s what it was supposed to be, but Sunghoon could feel his cheeks start to heat up despite himself. Why was his best friend making him blush just by staring at him? He wouldn’t know.

And of course, it was Jake in the end who’d finally broken the (comfortable?) silence with four words that sent the first domino tumbling down.

“Can I kiss you?”

Sunghoon stared. Jake stared back. The younger realized he wasn’t the only one blushing anymore.

He expected him to speak again, say it was a joke or he didn’t mean it. Jake looked like he wanted to, but nothing came. They both just stared at each other, until Sunghoon heard himself saying something.

“Yes.”

Jake blinked. They continued staring. He wasn’t quite sure why he said it, but Jake didn’t ask why, didn’t say “Come again?” or ask Sunghoon to repeat himself. He just leaned in.

Sunghoon was glad the elder hadn’t said anything. If he had, the skater probably would’ve scrambled to find some excuse as to what he’d said. But then this wouldn’t be happening.

A world where this didn’t happen was a world Sunghoon didn’t want to live in.

Jake’s lips brushed against his in a soft but firm kiss, sending butterflies coursing through his stomach, and Sunghoon realized somewhere in the back of his head that he’s probably done this before. Sunghoon himself, on the other hand, between skating and becoming a trainee, had never kissed anyone.

The elder pulled away as Sunghoon slowly realized he just had his first kiss with his best friend while on a survival show , but he didn’t voice the thought. What he did say was something entirely different. “Why did you ask to kiss me?”

The aussie stared back once more, “Why did you let me?”

Ah. So they were at a crossroads.

════ ⋆★⋆ ════

“Can you throw this spoon out? Thanks.” Sunghoon didn’t wait for an answer before shoving the piece of plastic at Jake’s hands and turning to get water.

Jake pouted, lifting up the spoon and looking at Sunghoon with round eyes, “Am I just a trash can to you?”

“Yes,” Sunghoon responded, not faltering under Jake’s pleading look, which quickly turned into a smirk.

“Didn’t know you’d want to kiss trash that badly.”

“I- No...” Leave it to Jake Sim to make the skater stutter with a single sentence. “Shut up.”

“Aww, you’re turning red Hoonie~” Jake cooed as he threw the spoon away, only making the blush spread further as Sunghoon turned away from him. “And I don’t have to shut up, there’s no one around.”

“There’s cameras,” Sunghoon pointed out, nudging his head toward the closest one on the ceiling as they walked away from the sink.

Jake grabbed his wrist, quickly leading him into the laundry room and shutting the door behind them, “There isn’t here.”

Sunghoon didn’t waste a moment attaching his lips to the elder’s.

They’d been going on like this since the first time. Every day, (more like every time they both had a moment to breathe), one would find the other, as if they were pulled. Tugging each other into rooms with no cameras or other boys around. It was a kind of stress reliever, or at least that’s what Sunghoon told himself. Jake knew how to touch him in a way that made him forget the weight on his shoulders for a little bit.

However, one thing had changed from the first time. Those butterflies Sunghoon felt were now much more frequent. What was once reserved for Jake licking open his mouth was now for when Jake touched his hand, complimented his hair, looked in his eyes, even for when he was just smiling. Sunghoon didn’t know what was happening to him.

The feeling itself was pleasant, in a way that made his stomach whirl. Sort of like a rollercoaster, where you can feel your stomach in your mouth but it’s okay, because once it settles there’s the residual euphoria that you came for in the first place. Sunghoon couldn’t put a word to it, because ‘attraction’ didn’t feel right anymore.

Although, even if Sunghoon couldn’t label the feeling, apparently it was clear to others. The conversation he’d had with Jay the day before was still fresh in his mind.

“What do you call it when everything a person does makes you irrationally happy and want to be around them all the time?”

Jay had scrunched his eyebrows, following the sentence as he made his bed. “Hoon, that’s love.”

The elder had just assumed he’d been reading a book, but Sunghoon was frozen. Love . Sunghoon was in love with Jake.

Now that was all sorts of wrong. Jake was his best friend, Jake was a fellow trainee, Jake was...one of the many things that wasn’t determined yet.

Of course, Sunghoon couldn’t let himself forget that the debut lineup wasn’t something that had been chosen yet. Everyone in I Land was talented. Neither Jake nor Sunghoon had a confirmed spot in the debut group.

Jake being in his life after these few months wasn’t something Sunghoon could guarantee.

(However, Sunghoon also wasn’t sure how he expected himself to go back to a life without him if he had too.)

That moment, that realization, was the second domino. A big one at that, one that left destruction and chaos in its wake and sent everything spiraling.

But if that was the second domino, hearing the door slowly open while the tips of Jake’s fingers tugged on the bottom his shirt was the third.

The two leapt apart as Daniel shut his eyes, looking like he regretted every single step he’d taken since the day he was born. But before either of them could say anything or offer an explanation, he shook his head.

“No, nope. I don’t want to know,” the maknae said, spinning on his heel without opening his eyes. “Lock the door next time, I’m not sure if this would go over well with staff. If there’s a next time, I guess. Nope, I said I don’t care,” he repeated to himself.

“But...” Daniel turned back around, opening his eyes this time as he contemplated his next words. “Be careful. I mean, just don’t get hurt, I guess.”

And with that he was gone, the laundry room door swinging shut again. Jake and Sunghoon both were frozen for a moment, thrown off by Daniel’s warning and the fact that they had been walked in on. The elder came to first, moving past Sunghoon and locking the door.

“What do you think he meant?” Jake asked slowly, leaning back against the door. “By ‘don’t get hurt’?”

Sunghoon shook his head, “Not sure.” Lies . He knew exactly what Daniel was talking about.

Jake hummed, “Weird.” The look in his eyes told Sunghoon he knew as well.

Maybe that was it, that silent agreement that they wouldn’t mention it, Sunghoon let himself believe. It would be easier on him.

“He won’t tell anyone right?” Sunghoon questioned, just to make sure. He trusted Daniel, but...whatever this was wasn’t something they wanted everyone to know.

“I’m sure he won’t,” Jake assured. “He’s a smart kid. If anything he’s already wiped it from his brain at this point.”

Sunghoon nodded in agreement as silence fell between them. The younger was about to move and suggest they go let the others know they’re alive when Jake spoke up.

“Look, about what Daniel said-”

“No we don’t have to....Can we just not?” Sunghoon interrupted. “This...it helps; with the stress and all. I don’t want to ruin that by talking about it. Isn’t it better if we just don’t say anything? That way we won’t get hurt, whether we make it or not.”

The elder hummed in understanding but still asked, “Are you sure?”

“This is the last time I’ll ask and then we won’t talk about it at all, I promise,” he added when Sunghoon’s face took on a look of exasperation.

“Yes, I’m sure,” he confirmed. “No getting hurt if there’s nothing to get hurt over, right?”

“Yup,” Jake agreed. He stopped leaning against the door, walking over to where Sunghoon was leaning against the dryer and taking his hands, gazing up at him.

It was looks like those, full of admiration and affection, that gave Sunghoon those butterflies. He wanted to hate them, truly he did, but he couldn’t find it within himself to. It was looks like those that caused his defenses to falter. It was looks like those that scared him so goddamn much, because these past few months had been a game of who gets to stay in your life and who doesn’t, and if he lost Jake to that, if he lost the looks to that then…

It was looks like those that were the exact reason why Sunghoon didn’t want to talk about it. Because if they talked about it, he’d finally find out what that strange mix of affection, respect, and slight fear meant. And that wasn’t something Sunghoon was ready for.

“You know I’ll always be your friend right? No matter how all of this ends?” Jake reminded him. “I’ll always call on you on the phone’”

“Stop talking like that.”

“You never know Hoonie-”

“Stop it. You can’t do that.” This was not the time for Jake of all people to be pessimistic. “Don’t say things like that.”

“And what if I never get to say them?”

“You won’t have to.”

“You can’t possibly be sure of that-”

“Yeah I can’t but at the very least I can hope right?” Sunghoon rebutted. “We only have a few more weeks to go, don’t take that away.”

Jake sighed, letting go of his hands and wrapping his arms around Sunghoon’s shoulders in a hug instead. “Okay. You’re right.”

“You’re not going anywhere,” Sunghoon stated, hugging him back.

“I’m not.”

Sunghoon knew they both meant different things.

════ ⋆★⋆ ════

And quite honestly? Fuck Sim Jaeyoon and his goddamn pessimism. Because no matter what he said that day, here they both stood in front of their sunbaes and the judges, cameras on, waiting as the announcer took excruciatingly long pauses before announcing the members of ENHYPEN.

Sunghoon missed him. That was stupid, since he’d literally been living with him for weeks and Jake was never away from his side for long. But he still did.

If he was honest, he missed Jake’s mouth. Not just the kisses, but the emotions that came with them. The soft looks that never matched with bruised red lips. The underlying promise of ‘I love you’, (whatever that meant at this point) though they never actually said it.

They hadn’t kissed in a while, working up to the last day and hanging out with the boys who’d been eliminated left them with little time alone.

But Sunghoon didn’t have time to be zoning out; to be thinking about kissing Jake right now. They’d already announced two members, Heeseung and Ni-ki respectively, which he’d expected. Now they were about to announce the third.

Sunghoon would be lying if he pretended he didn’t feel the biggest rush of relief he’d felt in a while when Jake’s name was spoken. Even as he was making his speech, the younger just kept thinking about how happy he was for him, and how stupidly pessimistic Jake had been beforehand.

If anything, it was going to be Sunghoon who didn’t make it.

And that thought kept ringing through his head as the announcers kept going until there were only four people left. He knew it was stupid, he knew he was the one who said to be optimistic, but he couldn’t help it.

Seconds stretched on for hours as the announcements kept being drawn out, but once they were spoken the moment was fleeting. And then suddenly Sunghoon’s name was voiced. He did it. He was the sixth member of ENHYPEN. The fourth domino had finally fallen, and it wasn’t the end.

Everything after that was a blur; faces, tears, hugs, all swirling together in a huge mess with the leftover adrenaline and euphoria. But Jake’s face of pure happiness had etched itself into Sunghoon’s brain, vowing to stay there for as long as he would let it.

And Sunghoon never wanted to let go.

════ ⋆★⋆ ════

“Hey.”

Sunghoon turned around from where he was tossing the clothes in the dryer. Jake stood leaning against the doorframe of the laundry room, probably just having gotten back from work.

“Hi. Did you wash your hands?”

Jake scoffed, “How lowly do you think of me Sunghoon-ah?”

“Not that lowly,” Sunghoon responded, going back to the laundry. “But still pretty low.”

“And here I thought we were friends.”

The elder’s exaggeratedly hurt voice made Sunghoon smile, “Exactly. Best friends.”

“Best friends,” Jake agreed, walking closer and hooking his chin over Sunghoon’s shoulder as he started looking for the laundry detergent. “You know, some might even call us soulmates.”

Sunghoon hummed. Is kissing your supposedly platonic soulmate a normal thing to do? “I like that. It shows that we were meant to end up here, together.”

Jake nodded against his shoulder. The two were silent for a moment as Sunghoon turned on the laundry machine, before Jake spoke once more.

“Is anyone else home?”

“No.”

He knew it was coming. It had been weeks since the last time.

“Can I kiss you?”

Sunghoon really hated having to say no, even just for the moment. “Let me finish the laundry first.”

Jake settled for peppering kisses along his neck, and Sunghoon regretted having to push the tender touches to the back of his mind to concentrate on pouring the detergent. The skater started feeling a sense of deja vu as Jake played with the hem of his shirt, kisses lining his jaw until his ear was caught softly between the elder’s teeth.

The laundry machine closed quickly and loudly, a result of Sunghoon spinning around as fast as he could to face Jake. The Aussie smiled, starting to place fleeting kisses all over Sunghoon’s face, or more accurately, everywhere but his lips. Always the tease.

Jakey~ ” Sunghoon whined as a kiss ghosted the corner of his lips. Jake hummed in response.

“You said you would kiss me.”

Sunghoon almost regretted speaking when Jake pulled back from his face with a small smirk. Almost, but then Jake spun them around and dived in again.

He missed this. The feeling of his back against the wall, Jake hands on his waist, his finger’s tangled in the elder’s hair. They had always been messy, their kisses were mostly teeth and tongue, never gentle like the first time.

Sunghoon knew why. Gentle was intimate. And that’s not what this was. This was a stress reliever and nothing more, so they should act like it. At least, that was the plan.

The skater always hated himself a little bit for loving Jake. That seemed to be the one simple unspoken rule between the two, and he broke it within weeks.

But could he really blame himself? Jake was one of the sweetest and kindest people he ever knew. He was his best friend. He was everything Sunghoon hadn’t realized he needed.

And Jake always had a softer touch under the rough edges of their kisses, a reminder that the Aussie was his friend, that he wasn’t using him. A reminder that the younger just had to say the word and he would stop, and most of all a reminder that he loved Sunghoon, no matter what.

Sunghoon hated himself for letting his heart twist that touch into something more.

Jake snapped him out of his thoughts, pulling him up with his hands under the taller’s knees and carrying him out of the laundry room. Sunghoon vaguely remembered none of the members were home, it was hard to remember much when Jake was holding him like this.

The two separated, Jake lowering Sunghoon into the couch with a smirk before climbing onto his legs and connecting their lips again. This was new, Jake hovering over him like this. Most of this was new, not hiding behind locked doors, having time, actually being alone . They never had that before.

Sunghoon enjoyed the newfound freedom all the more as Jake pressed kisses into his collarbone. Then suddenly it was much too cold and Jake was much too far away again.

“I think we need to talk.”

Sunghoon whined, “But the members aren’t home an-”

“And it’s been a while, I know,” Jake agreed, getting off Sunghoon’s legs. The last time they kissed had been around a month ago, a week or two before I Land ended. “But I think we need to talk first.”

The younger sighed, sitting up to face Jake. “Alright. Go ahead.” He had no idea what this was about. He had no idea the fifth domino was already falling.

Jake sucked in a deep breath, biting his lip as he contemplated what to say. Sunghoon had to stop himself from jumping over and pushing him down into the cushions. Thankfully, Jake’s next words made him forget all about that.

“I like you Sunghoon. A lot.”

Sunghoon blinked, frozen, as the other went on.

“I’m not the type of person to wear my heart out on my sleeve all the time, you know that. And the last time I did...it didn’t end well,” Jake confessed, looking down and wringing his hands. “But I promised I’d try to give more of myself to you guys, and I think the first step to forming close bonds is honesty. But I can’t find it in myself to be honest about all of this to the others if I’m still hiding from you.”

“You’re my best friend Hoon. I’ve never really let myself get close to many people the way I got close to you. And it all happened really quickly, and then I realized that it was a little more than friendship on my end, and then we kissed,” Jake admitted sheepishly. “And we had promised back then not to talk about it because we were afraid, but I Land’s over now. We’re going to debut together. Our lives are intertwined no matter what from here on out. So we aren’t going to lose each other, but that means we can’t walk away from whatever this is either. And there isn’t any space for dishonesty.”

“So yeah. I like you Hoon, and I want all of that disgustingly cheesy domestic dating shit with you. And I know it would be hard, and we’d have to be careful, but that’s a risk I’m willing to take. And I think that’s something I can manage. But that’s only if you want this too,” he reminded. “And if not, that’s fine. We’ll still be best friends, I won’t let it get weird. I don’t know if we’ll be able to keep doing... this though.”

Sunghoon blinked again, at a loss for words. Just a few minutes ago, he had Jake’s tongue in his mouth, and he really wished it was there right now if it meant he wouldn’t be able to see the red creeping up on the skater’s face. “I- uhm- thank you.”

Jake laughed. Laughed . During this conversation? Sunghoon was going to lose his mind. “Is that all you’re going to say?”

“Give me a minute!” Sunghoon, fully blushing now, threw back. “Am I just supposed to have my own speech ready? Gosh, so rude, pulling this on me so suddenly like this-”

“Suddenly?” Jake asked hysterically. “How was any of this sudden? Couldn’t you have seen it coming?”

“Well if you had been dropping hints I clearly wasn’t picking them up!” Sunghoon pointed out.

“Dropping hints- Sunghoon I asked to kiss you!”

“And?”

And?!

“That’s not the point,” Sunghoon said, bringing them back to their conversation. “Look, I’m not very good with words. So I’m sorry if my little speech doesn’t stand a chance compared to yours-”

“Come on, just spit it out already,” the Aussie furthered.

“I...reciprocate your feelings.”

Jake giggled, biting his lip.

“Why are you laughing?” Sunghoon complained, burying his red face in his hands.

“You really said ‘reciprocate’ ,”

“Oh shut up!”

“I’m sorry, I’m sorry,” the elder apologized in english. “Go on.”

“Well...I’ve never really thought about anyone like that before,” Sunghoon confessed. “Between skating and becoming a trainee and everything, I never really had time. I didn’t put any thought into dating at all, and then suddenly you showed up, and we kissed, and to be honest I hadn’t even considered liking guys. I think I fell for you long before I realized what the feeling actually was.”

Sunghoon was sure his cheeks had created an entirely new shade of the color red, but Jake only smiled. “I think I fell pretty hard too.”

The younger smiled back, his heart finding a normal speed again. “We’re both pretty stupid huh?”

“So stupid,” Jake agreed. “At least now we can be stupid together.”

“Exactly.” Sunghoon laced their hands together, looking up at his best friend and leaning in to press their foreheads together. Jake smiled at the gesture, closing his eyes and just letting them be close. Sunghoon knew how he felt. They could finally be close like that without wondering if it’s too intimate for two friends (who kiss often). Because it wasn’t like that anymore.

Sunghoon didn’t want to ruin the moment. He really didn’t. But the question had been burning at the back of his mind since Jake had mentioned it and he couldn’t put it to rest. “Jakey?” Jake hummed with closed eyes. “What happened last time?”

The elder blew out a breath, opening his eyes but not moving away just yet. “I knew you were going to ask that.”

“You don’t have to explain if you don’t want-”

“No, no it’s alright,” he assured, pulling his forehead away but keeping their hands laced together. “It’s just...I’ve never had to explain it before. And I don’t want to...Maybe if we...” Jake trailed off, looking at their hands.

“Can we cuddle?” he asked softly.

The skater smiled, “You know you don’t have to ask for things like that.”

“I know, but you aren’t the most touchy member an-”

“So I can shove you up against the wall on a daily basis but we can’t cuddle?” Jake blushed. “You’re different Jakey, you know that.”

“I guess,” Jake agreed, sitting back against the couch comfortably and pulling Sunghoon into his lap. They stayed like that for a moment, Jake’s hand running through his hair in silence. Sunghoon knew he would start when he felt ready.

“Before...” Jake began. “I never really knew I’d be a kpop idol. It never occurred to me that that was something I would want eventually. I always assumed it would be something with physics you know?” Sunghoon nodded. His boyfriend was a nerd. And an adorable one at that. “And because of that, I never really saw the harm in dating.”

“I had a girlfriend, in sophomore year. It didn’t last that long, a month and half maybe. I got dumped, don’t tell Jay-” The skater in his lap laughed. “But it didn’t hurt that much. I actually got a boyfriend like two months after that.

“Looking back I can kind of tell it was a bad idea, but everything is clearer in hindsight right? He was a grade ahead of me. His name was Matt...or at least, that’s what everyone called him. His first name was Jefferson.”

“What happened?” Sunghoon asked quietly.

“We dated for like eight months. And then I found out he cheated on me.”

“Oh,” the younger whispered softly. “Oh Jake-”

“It’s alright. I mean, it hurt back then of course, I genuinely thought he loved me. But hindsight, right? It wasn’t a good relationship anyway,” Jake confessed. “Everything always had to be according to when he had time, my schedule didn’t matter. No excuses for me, but he could miss a date without cancelling if he felt like it. I had to trust him completely, yet I couldn’t go to church without an alibi.”

“And you never noticed anything was wrong?”

Jake shook his head behind him, “I was sixteen and that was my first relationship that had lasted past the two month mark. I thought that was just what commitment was. Obviously it’s not. Moral of the story, dating someone older than you when you’re a kid isn’t always a good idea.”

“You’re older than me,” Sunghoon pointed out playfully.

“By barely a month! You aren’t a child anyway,” Jake refuted. “And it’s me . You know me. Now it would be a completely different story if Ni-ki came home one day and announced he was dating some random 03 liner he met on the street that day.”

Sunghoon nodded in understanding. “I’m sorry that happened to you.”

“It’s alright,” Jake reassured once more. “It wasn’t anyone’s fault. Well I guess it was his, for cheating on me. But I can’t blame myself for liking him. That’s something I can’t fix now. And there’s more anyways.”

“There’s more?” Sunghoon asked, surprised. He could feel an ugly feeling bubbling up in his chest and threw it out immediately, labeling it as envy. He reminded himself Jake has just become his boyfriend, and he was talking about past relationships anyway. There wasn’t any reason to be jealous.

There was another feeling in there too, but Sunghoon couldn’t name it. He pushed it down, now wanting to worry about it at the moment.

“Well yeah, and this ones the last one,” Jake confirmed. “I had a best friend, Dorothea. She was pretty much one of the only people I was really close to. She and I had been friends for the longest time. She was there with Lily, my first girlfriend, and when everything with Matt happened. I didn’t really want anything to do with dating after that.”

“We never actually dated,” the Aussie explained. “We both liked each other, we both knew that, but we never dated.”

“Why not?” Sunghoon questioned.

“Because I only figured out the feeling was mutual after I realized I wanted to become an idol.”

“Oh,” the skater mumbled. “And how did she take that?”

“Terribly,” Jake confessed. “She didn’t support the idea at all. Dory made it a kind of ultimatum, stay and be with her, or leave and never speak to her again.”

“What did you do?” Sunghoon asked, as if he didn’t already know Jake chose being an idol.

“I bolted it out of there of course. Besides family, I didn’t really have much keeping me in Brisbane. I mean sure, I had a few friends, but I wasn’t really close to any of them. After Dory suddenly decided to be manipulative, I realized that even if I stayed nothing good was going to come out of that relationship, so I sent in my audition and left after getting accepted.

“And now I’m here,” Jake finished, fingers dropping from Sunghoon’s hair to hold his hands. “With you. My actual best friend, soulmate....and boyfriend. If that’s what you want to call it.”

Sunghoon’s heart warmed at the term. He squeezed Jake’s hands, “I’d like that.”

The elder pushed Sunghoon’s shoulders softly, urging him to turn around. Sunghoon complied, and the gaze he was met with might have made his knees buckle had he been standing.

Jake was looking at him with the most adoration and affection Sunghoon had ever seen from anyone, except maybe his parents. But this was different, Jake was looking at him like he wanted to hug him and never let go, but also wanted to completely wreck him at the same time.

(Sunghoon wouldn’t say no to either.)

“How have you never kissed anyone before?”

Sunghoon ears turned redder, if that was possible. “I’ve kissed you.”

“Besides that,” Jake elaborated. “You’re so pretty. And talented. And tall, and handsome, and honestly your lips always look so kissable. I feel like I’m quoting a One Direction song at this point.”

The younger laughed, cheeks burning with the compliments. “You’re so cheesy.”

“I did say I wanted that cheesy stuff with you,” his boyfriend reminded him. “I’m just telling you what I thought when I first met you.”

“Really? You wanted to kiss me then?” Sunghoon questioned. It all felt like so long ago.

“A little bit. But it was mostly, wow, that man’s ethereal, and his friend’s hot too.

“Oh come on!” Sunghoon exclaimed, softly slapping Jake’s chest. “You just called me your boyfriend for the first time and now you’re talking about how hot Jay-ah is?”

“Hoonie you’re the only one I see, but I’m not blind ,” Jake defended. “If you don’t realize how stupidly attractive this band is we’re gonna need to get you glasses. Like the one Jay looks hot as fuck in.”

“Seriously?!”

“If you want to lie to yourself about how insanely handsome Heeseung-hyung and Jay-ah are, that’s a you problem Park.”

“I’m not lying to myself Sim. Of course I see it,” Sunghoon admitted. “I just try not to think about it that often.”

“Well you should. Did you see the pants Hyung was wearing a few days ago? He looked so good.”

“Oh my god-” Sunghoon muttered in english, closing his eyes. “I hate you.”

“You’re literally sitting in my lap right now,” Jake pointed out.

“And you’re literally talking about how hot our bandmates are while I’m sitting in your lap,” Sunghoon refuted.

“Hey, I didn’t even mention Sunoo-yah in chokers.”

Dropping his head onto Jake’s chest, Sunghoon groaned. “Why would you say that?”

“I got the image in your head right?! Trust me, it’s not leaving anytime soon.”

“You’re gonna kill me like this.”

Sunghoon could feel the smirk before he lifted his head up to see it. “I’d like to think I could kill you with my own looks alone.”

“You probably could.” Did he really just whisper that?

Jake’s smirk grew more triumphant. “And now I know I could.”

Rolling his eyes, Sunghoon added, “Great, now kindly never mention Heeseung-hyung’s pants, or Sunoo-yah in chokers, or Jay-ah’s glasses again.”

“Why not,” Jake whined. “It’s so much fun.”

“Don’t want to make it hard for me to focus on you,” Sunghoon advised, fingers stroking Jake’s collar as he tried to steal the upper-hand.

Jake turned red for one gleeful second before slipping his hands under Sunghoon’s shirt in retaliation, drawing shapes into the skin above his waistband. “How hard can it be, Baby?”

Well fuck. Sunghoon never had the upper-hand in these domino-worthy moments anyway.

“Certainly not too hard if you keep doing that,” Sunghoon admitted, abandoning all hope of making Jake flustered. Jake had been making him flustered since he walked into the laundry room earlier. And he couldn’t deal with it any longer.

Sunghoon pulled on Jake’s collar, crashing their mouths together in a messy yet familiar way. Jake’s fingertips didn’t stop their soft drawing, and Sunghoon could’ve sworn he never wanted this moment to stop. However, contrary to the vampire concept, both Jake and Sunghoon were human, and needed to breathe. Even if Sunghoon hated it.

Despite how intense the kiss had started off, it ended sweet. Soft even, which had never happened before.

“Is it just me or was that different?” Sunghoon voiced, gently panting for air.

“Maybe that’s just what kissing your boyfriend is like,” Jake offered, just as breathless, eliciting a smile out of Sunghoon.

“Can I kiss you again?” Sunghoon asked softly, hands playing with Jake’s collar still.

Jake flipped them over before he knew it, Sunghoon’s back hitting the cushions and Jake above him like he had been before. “Yes.”
