Take A Chance On Me

Summary:

This was gold and cursed at the same time. ‘Say, Izuna. Is your brother, by any chance, a fan of Saturday Night Fever?’ He turned to his friend for any kind of sensible explanation. Izuna’s snickering only intensified without giving any clear answer on the matter so he drew his own conclusion that Madara indeed was secretly a disco lover. He would never let him live this down.

Wedding night magic working its miracles. With a bit of Izuna's help.

Notes:

Yeah, I've been watching Mamma Mia in quarantine if you couldn't tell. :D Enjoy!

Work Text:

Swinging the wine in his glass casually, Tobirama decided to take a stroll and finally stretch his limbs after such a long time spent sitting and conversing politely with various members of their family. It was a relief to make a slip to yet another line of questioning. He hasn’t even seen half of them for years and yet, here he was now, expected to entertain the numerous old aunts and answer all of their slightly rude questions about his life, as if his private affairs were any of their fucking business. Tedious indeed but what he wouldn’t do for his brothers. Someone had to be the scapegoat for these old boors after all, while the blood traitors were having fun somewhere around the venue.

Making his round around the dancing floor, just on the outskirts, to observe the pairs enjoying swaying with rhythm, his eyes settled on Hashirama and Mito, in the middle of the huddle, dancing cheek to cheek, utterly lost in one another. The sight brought an involuntary smile on his lips. It was heartwarming to see his big brother so perfectly happy, enjoying his first hours as a married man with the love of his life. Hashirama kept insisting since the day he met her that Mito was his endgame and today, his dream has become true and Tobirama has gained a sister in law.

‘Sickeningly sweet, eh?’ A voice on his right brought him out of his musings. His eyes snapped to glare at Izuna, only to soften when he realised that his friend, for all his snark, did not mean it in a demeaning way whatsoever, his own face split with a fond smile.

Tobirama hummed and then nodded, once he realised that Izuna probably couldn’t hear through all the noise. The song ended, only to change into some upbeat old school disco. The tune was vaguely familiar, in a sense that Tobirama had heard it often enough on the radio to try to forget it again. This kind of music really wasn’t his cup of tea. Next to him, Izuna snorted loudly, glee sparkling in his dark eyes. ‘Oh man, this is going to be gold.’

Uncomprehending, Tobirama followed his line of sight, only to suddenly experience an indescribable mix of emotions. There he was, Uchiha Madara, Hashirama’s best man, in all his grace. His suit jacket long forgotten where he left it hanging over the back of his chair, sleeves rolled up to expose those muscular forearms of his Tobirama would vehemently deny he ever thought of, his barely tamable mane of raven locks already unleashed from the hair tie he was wearing earlier, Madara was busting probably the most ridiculous dance moves he had ever seen.

You can dance

You can jive

Having the time of your life

Ooh, see that girl

Watch that scene

Digging the dancing queen

Quite ignorant of his surroundings, Madara sang along enthusiastically, indulging in a sequence of typical disco moves, reminding Tobirama strongly of John Travolta. Making a strained noise somewhere at the back of his throat, Tobirama was seriously torn between second hand embarrassment and somewhat manic glee.

The song progressed into the second verse and now it definitely wasn’t only the two of them staring in bewilderment at Madara making a fool of himself. ‘Fuck, just how shitfaced do you reckon that idiot has gotten himself?’ Tobirama leaned closer to Izuna to speak directly into his ear over the beats of ABBA. Yeah, he did recognize the horrid song now. Cursed indeed.

You are the dancing queen

Young and sweet

Only seventeen

Dancing queen

Feel the beat from the tambourine, oh yeah

Izuna chortled with undisguised mirth. ‘Oh, very.’

Tobirama ran a palm over his face. As much ammunition as this scene provided for future arguments they were bound to have, he was beginning to feel that enough was enough. Madara was normally quite a reserved, proud and therefore easily offended man, definitely not the jovial king - or queen? - of the dance floor they had the opportunity to be watching right now. He would probably regret being the entertainment for everyone the next day, once he sobered. Tobirama knew that he would. Theoretically. Unlike some, he could hold his liquor and despised dancing, therefore something like that could never happen to him. ‘Shouldn’t you… I don’t know, control the damage a bit?’ He rubbed the back of his neck unsurely.

Izuna cackled once again, shaking his head. ‘Why? This is hilarious!’ He shoved his hand into his pocket, only to retrieve his phone out of it and open the camera app, aiming it at his brother.

Tobirama frowned. ‘I don’t think he will appreciate you filming him on top of that. You should have some mercy, he’s your brother.’ He side-eyed his friend disapprovingly.

‘Exactly, my dear Tobes.’ Izuna laughed wickedly, his camera lense firmly aimed at Madara, who was throwing his head to the rhythm of the beats, his hair swinging just as wildly as his arms. Tobirama shrugged and decided to refrain from any further comments. He tried to reason with Izuna, okay? He tried and that was the extent of efforts he was willing to exert on Madara’s behalf. He wasn’t a knight in shiny armour to defend Madara’s virtues after all. The dumbhead was an adult and it was entirely his problem if he made a fool of himself in front of everyone. And it wasn’t like the Uchiha would do the same for him. Hell, Madara would probably be standing next to Izuna, making a footage of his own to use as blackmail material for years to come.

The song progressively got to an end, which was a relief to him. Until another started and a groan escaped Tobirama’s lips. The DJ apparently decided now was a great time for the whole ABBA discography, which left him questioning his brother’s sanity to hire the man in the first place. On the other hand, people on the dancefloor - not just Madara - seemed to be having a blast so it was probably just him being the sourpuss here. Not that it was such an uncommon occurrence.

Worse thing was that somehow, Madara apparently noticed them standing there and poking fun at him - which likely had to do a lot with Izuna’s insistent and very much unsubtle recording - as he started to, while still dancing, make his way towards them.

There's not a soul out there

No one to hear my prayer

Gimme, gimme, gimme a man after midnight

Won't somebody help me chase the shadows away

Gimme, gimme, gimme a man after midnight

Take me through the darkness to the break of the day

If there ever was a good time for a tactical retreat, it was now, although it was regrettable as he probably wouldn’t have another opportunity to see Madara being so gloriously ridiculous for a long time. Possibly until someone else would be getting married. He was getting dangerously close though so it was now or never. Fully intending to turn on his heel and dive into the crowd to make himself scarce, Tobirama clapped Izuna’s shoulder to let him know he was in this on his own.

In hindsight, that was probably his fatal mistake as his arm was suddenly gripped. ‘Oh no, you won’t!’ Izuna cackled and used all his strength - which was, taking his short stature into account, substantially bigger than he would have guessed - to push him forward.

Forward meaning that he stumbled, flouncing comically, straight into Madara’s arms. ‘Oh wow, would you look at that. My prayers have been answered.’ The Uchiha, who wrapped his well toned arms around his waist to steady him as if it was his second nature to be catching falling damsels in distress, purred, looking at him with slightly hooded eyes while a smug smirk played on his lips.

‘What?’ Tobirama squawked, acutely aware of the practically non-existent amount of space between their bodies, trying to turn around and direct a scathing glare at the cause of his ongoing misfortune, formerly his best friend, currently his worst enemy, Uchiha Izuna.

Gimme, gimme, gimme a man after midnight

Won't somebody help me chase the shadows away

Gimme, gimme, gimme a man after midnight

Take me through the darkness to the break of the day

Madara sang along, as if it was supposed to explain anything. He just quirked his brows in his well practised, thoroughly unimpressed manner, while the Uchiha’s hands moved to his hips, trying to make him sway with the rhythm with him. Tough luck, Tobirama didn’t dance. Ever. ‘I asked for a man and there he is. And not just any man.’ Madara grinned and grabbed one of his hands to spin him around, only to drag him to himself once more, pressed chest to chest. Unfortunately, he didn’t quite manage to suppress a distressed yelp, which inevitably led to numerous heads turning their way, everyone clearly amused by the scene. Tobirama felt his cheeks rapidly warming up under the scrutiny. This had to be, by any and all account, his worst day ever.

He could distinctly hear Izuna’s inane laughter, as he was undoubtedly making even more compromising footage, and tried to push Madara off so that he could proceed with the homicide of his idiotic brother, in front of the witnesses and all, but his dancing partner wouldn’t let him. Instead, he was dragged deeper on the dancefloor, stumbling awkwardly while Madara twirled around him. This was beyond embarrassing. If he didn’t know the man better, he would have likened whatever the hell was going on now to some outlandish bird mating ritual. Madara truly was a maniac.

He suffered through the rest of the song, even resorted to trying to move his hips a tiniest bit to at least pretend he wasn’t dying of mortification all the while - he wouldn’t give Izuna the pleasure of admitting defeat - bemoaning inwardly just how many times the band would repeat the chorus before his torment would finally come to an end.

Once the final tones of the song passed, Tobirama praised the heavens above and was about to bolt. ‘This has been sufficiently awkward so surely you won’t mind if I…’ He gestured indistinctly in the direction of the exit. He had places to be. Not any specific places, mind you, just anywhere but here. Especially since opening chords of another song started and they were painfully slow.

‘Let me have this one more dance, I will let you go after that.’ A set of arms snuck themselves around his neck and Madara’s previously goofy face was so damn earnest. Tobirama really had no chance of escaping this, not unless he wanted to leave him alone on the floor while the pairs around started slow dancing. And he wasn’t such a heartless bastard, he could indulge the drunk dumbass this one time.

‘Fine.’ He murmured and positioned his palms on his partner’s hips, glancing towards the DJ booth to mentally curse the man for a thousand years. Only to see Izuna right next to him, conversing with the man tasked with playing the music. This was his doing then. Noticing his glare on himself, Izuna waved and winked cheekily. If looks could kill, the younger Uchiha would drop dead on the spot.

I've been alone with you inside my mind

And in my dreams I've kissed your lips a thousand times

I sometimes see you pass outside my door

Hello, is it me you're looking for?

Lionel Richie and his smooth voice poured out of the speakers and he braced himself for shifting attention back to the man who hung on him, only to be hit square to the face with the look Madara was giving him once their eyes met. It could have been likened to pure adoration, if Tobirama had ever seen one, which was just… So very unexpected.

I can see it in your eyes, I can see it in your smile

You're all I've ever wanted and my arms are open wide

'Cause you know just what to say, and you know just what to do

And I want to tell you so much, I love you

Acutely aware of the painful longing of the lyrics and Madara’s eyes hovering on his lips, Tobirama suddenly didn’t know what to do with himself. He was flustered beyond measure and would do anything just to be able to escape but on the other hand, this somehow wasn’t so bad? Madara looked quite lovely tonight, no matter his overindulgence. In fact, he looked lovely most of the time, if Tobirama was a man enough to admit it. It was his infuriating argumentative nature that always prevented him from making a move. That and the fact that he was Hashirama’s best friend. He wouldn’t want to make things weird between them. Sometimes he even thought the two would end up together before Hashirama met with Mito.

I long to see the sunlight in your hair

And tell you time and time again how much I care

Sometimes I feel my heart will overflow

Hello, I've just got to let you know

'Cause I wonder where you are and I wonder what you do

Are you somewhere feeling lonely or is someone loving you?

Tell me how to win your heart, for I haven't got a clue

But let me start by saying, I love you

All his musings were, however, cut short when Madara leaned into him to rest his head upon his shoulder, bringing them even closer, which he wouldn’t have thought was possible. Pushing his mounting panic out of his mind, Tobirama braved to just swing with it and allowed his fingers to wander, caressing the small of his back and even ran his fingers up and down his spine. He would swear that Madara shivered as he practically melted in his arms.

As the instrumental solo poured out of the speakers, Tobirama threw all his cautiousness away and leaned down to bury his nose into that mane of black shiny hair he secretly liked, just this once, to inhale the Uchiha’s unmistakable scent, to nuzzle against it and make certain Madara’s hair was just as soft as he thought it would be.

Maybe this wasn’t such a disaster. Depending on the outcome of course. Tobirama was sensible enough to know this would probably lead to nothing but he could live with that. If they both returned to their snarling at each other and arguing about bullshit all the time, it would be fine. As long as things wouldn’t turn awkward, he was determined to enjoy this moment and not to speak about it ever again.

Only, Madara apparently had other ideas as he suddenly lifted his head, which inevitably brought their faces impossibly close. There were mere inches separating them as they stared into each other’s eyes, swaying slowly with the rhythm, lost in the moment, as if the people surrounding them faded into the background and the world revolved solely around them.

Cause I wonder where you are and I wonder what you do

Are you somewhere feeling lonely or is someone loving you?

Tell me how to win your heart, for I haven't got a clue

But let me start by saying, I love you

The last chorus repeated and Tobirama felt a gentle but firm tug on his neck, asking him to bend even lower. For a moment he thought that Madara was going to kiss him in the middle of the dance floor, in front of their numerous relatives and friends and acquaintances, but the Uchiha probably recognized the look of panic as he wasn’t a friend of public displays of affection, especially since they weren’t even dating. Being a subject of gossip would be embarrassing enough without someone snapping a picture of them smooching.

Instead, Madara, never breaking the intense eye contact, brought their foreheads together. Then, his soft sigh ghosting Tobirama’s cheek, the dark-haired man let his eyes fall shut, nuzzling his nose against Tobirama’s, which somehow felt even more intimate than a kiss would have. His breath was coming short, heart hammering in his chest and Madara’s fingers moved up his neck and tangled into the curls at the nape of his neck, cradling his neck to hold him close and maybe a kiss wasn’t such a bad idea after all? It would only take a second to steal one.

But then, inevitably, the last beat of the lovesong ended and the moment was broken as Tobirama could vividly hear the chattering and merriment around them, regaining his senses and awareness of the crushing reality. He had to be the sensible one since Madara was clearly drunk out of his mind. Why else would he give a time of the day to him of all people, right? A wedding fling was a bit too much of a cliché anyway and he wouldn’t take advantage of the man in his state. Speaking of which…

‘I think I need a drink. I’m not nearly drunk enough for this shit. Thanks for the dance though.’ Tobirama carefully pushed Madara away, trying not to notice the slight disappointment in his pretty dark eyes at being rejected. It was for the better, right?

He certainly wasn’t prepared for the look of determination Madara assumed when he grabbed his hand and pulled him out of the crowd, heading for the beeline to the bar. ‘Neither am I but that can be amended. I could buy you one and myself too and then maybe you will finally take that stick out of your pretty arse so I could push something else up there?’ The Uchiha tilted his head, looking a little too smug about practically asking Tobirama for a fuck. And he decidedly didn’t sound as inebriated as Tobirama initially thought he was. He wasn’t drunk, he was just a dimwit. That changed a lot of things.

If you change your mind

I'm the first in line

Honey, I'm still free

Take a chance on me

Slightly off tune but still with a charming smile, Madara followed the lyrics of yet another ABBA song resounding around the venue. Tobirama briefly thought that the DJ was an incorrigible idiot with no musical taste whatsoever and didn’t deserve any money for this atrocious service.

Tapping his chin, he came to a decision. ‘I will let you buy me a drink if you promise that you will shut up. No more ABBA.’ Simple conditions, right? Very reasonable as well.

‘Make me.’ Madara leaned into his space, grinning devilishly.

Being a man who would rarely turn down the challenge, Tobirama did just what Madara wanted him to do and pressed his lips against Madara’s. There were still people around them and he would swear it was Kawarama’s voice somewhere on their left, meaning that he would be hearing about this possibly till his dying day, but Tobirama couldn’t care less when Madara’s mouth worked against his, the effect of the kiss on his senses more intoxicating than any kind of booze would have been.

When they parted, Madara’s face was blooming with mirth and affection so genuine, it kind of took his breath away - and he was already left practically breathless by the kiss. ‘For a moment, I thought you were going to punch me instead.’ He chuckled adorably.

‘It certainly crossed my mind and you would deserve it for subjecting me to all that ABBA nonsense but I will reserve that for your brother, if you allow.’ Tobirama frowned momentarily, still a little salty about Izuna’s scheming. That little prick would pay for inconveniencing him like this. Never mind that he wasn’t as mad about the outcome in the end.

‘Suit yourself, babe. What about the rest of my ingenious plan?’ The Uchiha smirked cheekily and wiggled his brows.

Feeling quite amenable, Tobirama responded by wrapping his arm around his waist and pressing a kiss to his temple. He could wallow in regret of rash, alcohol induced decisions later. ‘The rest is negotiable.’ Cliché or not, a wedding fling it was for tonight.

Notes:

Imagine me, writing this at work instead of doing actual work, cackling like a maniac about the image of Madara dancing like Travolta (seriously, find some video of Saturday Night Fever and laugh as well), resulting in my boss poking head in my side of the office and looking at me with concern about my sanity. :D He's chill though. I also have zero time to edit as I have to leave my house in 20 minutes for a theater so sorry for any typos too, heh.

Hope you guys love this little nonsence as much as I do, I had so much fun writing this! My wedding is due in two months so I can't wait to bust some embarrassing moves myself, ha! :D
