Chapter 1: Chapter 1 - Prologue

Chapter Text

It all started with a routine maintenance check. Despite the fact that the day was far from done, the two Subway Masters were taking a quick stop so their pokemon could heal for the battles ahead. That's when they got the call. A wild Zorua had run past the gates and was seen running down one of the tunnels. The two immediately got ready to depart upon hearing this development. One of the newer nurses spoke up, asking if they were really going just because of a little Zorua.

“Safety is our number one priority, for all our passengers, both human and pokemon.”

After several minutes, the two brothers were walking down the tunnel, tips of their shoes tapping in unison. The tunnel was colder than unusual. Soon enough they caught sight of the little Zorua. It was curled up and shaking in fear. It was clear that it was lost and cold. The moment it spotted them, its tail puffed up in shock. It scambered back, now huddled against one of the train tracks. Ingo knelt down to one knee, trying to look as unthreatening to the scared little Zorua.

“Hey there little guy.” Ingo’s loud voice was surprisingly calm. “We’re trying to help you. This is not a safe place. If you want to come with us, we can get you warmed up and have you returned to your original station. Ingo was always one who tried to let his words do most of his expressing. Upon hearing his words, the little Zorua started to calm down a bit. It was still up against the rail but it was starting to come out.

All of a sudden, from down the tunnel, a sound of rumbling started to approach. A sharp wind raced down the track. Ingo sharply got up.

“Is that the 4:35 MultiBattle?”

“That’s not right. That train shouldn’t be arriving for another hour.”

The headlight of the train could be seen fast approaching. The little Zorua was now standing there in shock, having become a Deerling in the headlights. Emmet, always the man of actions among the two, jumped a dived onto the track. He scooped up the little Zorua and rolled out of the way just before the train came barreling by.

“That was verrrry close.” Emmet said. The scared little Zorua was safely tucked in his arm.

“Are you okay!” Ingo called out from the other side of the track.

“I’m fine!” He waved with his free arm.

“We should depart back to the nearest terminal and figure out why that train was off schedule.”

“And to get this little guy to the concessions stand.” Emmet said as he poked the little Zorua’s fur.

Emmet swung his arm, about to march across the track back to his brother, when all of a sudden a loud crack echoed throughout the tunnel. The two froze in place as fissures of white light began to spread across the subway. The cracks grew louder and louder as the white light shimmered shades of red, blue and green. The ground grew unstable, and the next thing the two brothers knew, they were both falling.
