Work Text:
“YOU WANT WHAT?” Dream shouted.
“Independance Dream, independence.”
Wilbur twirled around a dagger looking all too confident for the circumstances.Dream pinched where the bridge of his nose would have been on his mask.
“Look Wilbur this has gone too far already. Just surrender and we can pretend like this never happened.”
“Oh I don't think that's happening. See we don't listen to tyrants , Dream.”
Dream wanted to punch that grin right off his face. See how smug he was with a bloody nose. He sighed if only it were that simple, but he knew he couldn't so he grit his teeth and walked away.
Soon he arrived at the community house to a Sapnap complaining about not being able to join Wilbur of all people. Something about segregation or some shit. Dream was too tired to care at this point. Soon finding himself flopping down on the nearest available bed.
Beep beep. Beep beep.
Wha- Dream blearily opened his eyes to his comm going off.
“Not again.”
Looking down expecting the worst he was instead greeted to a message from a favorite pesky bird.
Grian whispers to you : hey you missed our training session you ok?
Shit. He had plans with Grian. See THIS is what happens when your goddamn essempi can't go five minutes without yet another war.
You whisper to Grian : Sorry, napping.Be there tomorrow?
Grian whispers to you:
sure
You whisper to Grian : :)
“Aha”
Dream looked Grian up and down as tho to raise an eyebrow
“Weren't you done with that joke?”
“Now where’d the fun in that be? Anyway you good man you look tired?”
“I'm fine, it's no big deal. Now, where did we leave off last time?”
Grian contemplated for a minute before frowning brow furrowed in concentration. He looked sorta cute like-No bad Dream bad. Grian is your friend.
“Wait where did we leave off? No not…. Too advanced….. Wait! Interiors, interiors. Awfully silly of me to forget that really. I'm gonna need Mumbo to lend me some brain cells after this.
Anyways interiors right see first you want to choose a complementary palette…….”
Later when the sky was in shades of burgundy and orange Dream had finally finished his house.
“Great work you'll be making upside down mansions in no time.”
Dream blushed a deep scarlet under his mask. Thankful that Grian was too absorbed observing his build to notice.
“ I'm not really sure…”
Dream scratched the back of his neck while Grian was adding some landscape to the house.
“Oh nonsense we all have to start somewhere-” TING TING TING
“SHOOT I forgot I promised I would stream with solidarity. Look Dream I really gotta go, talk tomorrow ya?”
Soon Grian ran off, mumbling something about hoovers and pairing socks. Dream stared after him for a while before deciding to head back to his smp. Maybe he could convince Grian to stay a bit longer next time. Well the smp isn't gonna join itself.
“Hey guys-”
As the door creaked open Dream was greeted to the sight of an empty house. He stared at the place that was starting to become less and less of a home.
“oh- they, they left me again.”
“I'm not, no I dont- I dont have time to cry. This is fine I’m, fine I just need to clear my mind, that's it just clear my mind.”
Dream tried so hard to focus on other things, he really did. But every step forward was six steps back and well, if Dream collapsed into his bed with Sapnap’s old stuffy and tears in his eyes, no one but him and Mr. Mars know.
Several essempis away a bird and a hat maker talk about a friend.
“Look Scar I don't know, he just won't talk to me about it. It's like he's afraid I'll scream at him or something, but whenever I ask he insists it's fine.”
“Look Grian, this is Dream we're talking about. I'm sure he's fine plus Sapnap and Goerge would never let anything happen to him.”
“No, Scar you don't understand he missed our meeting. He never misses our meeting! You didn't see him, he had bigger eyebags than Bdubs when he can't sleep!”
Scar frowns and contemplates for a minute as silence descends upon them. Soon looking at Grian with concern.
“There's not much you can do really Grian. He's not gonna just magically open up to you if he really is hiding something.”
“I know I know, but I feel like there is so much more that I could be doing for him. He just seems so afraid of me sometimes, it's like he expects me to stab him in the back.”
“He’ll tell you eventually, besides he's tough, he can survive until then.”
“ I hope so I hope so…..”
Midnight strikes, the moon casting equally beautiful light on two servers. One covered boats floating over holes, goats bleating into the night and a far to big base. The other, smothered in the underlying mist of friendships tearing at the seams, as a man tries too hard to keep his family together.
