Don't Touch Her

Summary:

Yasha comes to the Soul in Zadash to bring lunch for her hardworking girlfriend when she finds Beau's piece of shit father around making Beau uncomfortable.

Work Text:

The smell of fresh bread coming from the basket in Yasha’s hands made her stomach rumble. She picked up her pace ever so slightly through the marble halls of the Soul. The Cobalt Soul in Rexxentrum had told her that Beau was finishing up work in Zadash to prep for the trial in a couple weeks. They were kind enough to teleport her out here so she could bring her baby lunch.

Pride shot through Yasha like lightning. Beau was finally getting justice for the horrendous things those men did, and she was spearheading the investigation? Hells yeah Yasha was proud. She deserved every possible victory the universe would give her. That’s why she was bringing a mini picnic. Beau had been working so hard for months for this trial; Yasha just wanted to do something nice for her, provide a little respite in these ridiculous times.

After a couple minutes of walking through the long rows of the library, Yasha caught a glimpse of Beau’s infamous ponytail. She was standing in front of the study tables, talking to someone hidden by the shelves.

Yasha beamed. Haha! I found her! And I didn’t get lost this time. I consider this a win.

She walked forward and made to call out to her… until she stepped past the shelves and saw who she was talking to. Immediately, Yasha recognized body language that she’d missed earlier. Beau’s eyes were tense, her brow furrowed. Her whole body had the air of someone who wanted to reach for their weapon but had to appear calm.

The air around Yasha began to smell like ozone. Her hair lifted slightly even as lightning crackled off her eyes. Oh, fuck no. Yasha set the picnic basket down and stalked over to her girlfriend, wings spreading menacingly behind her. When she got to Beau’s side, she wrapped an arm protectively around her waist. And stared down Beau's piece of shit father.

"Hi, babe! Hope I'm not interrupting anything important." Yasha attempted to make her voice somewhat pleasant, but anyone could hear the threat coating her words.

Beau opened her mouth to reply when the prick interrupted. “Actually you were. Now, if you could leave me and my daughter alone. We have some things we need to discuss.” He reached out to grab Beau’s shoulder, who flinched, and Yasha. Saw. Red.

“Don’t. Touch. Her,” Yasha snarled.

Thoreau Lionett recoiled like he’d been bitten by a snake. Yasha felt a sick pleasure as she watched fear crawl over his face.

She pushed Beau slightly behind her and stepped forward. “You should not even be here. You are under a restraining order from the Cobalt Soul. You should not be within five hundred feet of any of the Souls in Wildemount. And yet here you stand.”

Yasha towered over Thoreau, invading his personal space, teeth bared. “And you wanna know something else? When that order was released, the High Curator themself allowed me to personally enact the consequences for failing to follow the orders.”

The aasimar straightened looking down her nose at him. “However, since you are her father, I will let it go just this once if you leave. Immediately .”

Thoreau stood in silent fear and glanced between her furious visage to Beau standing behind her.

Go! ” Yasha roared.

He yelped and ran as fast as his little legs would carry him out the front door of the Soul. Yasha stayed where she was. Watched him leave. Panted as the rage continued to course through her veins.

"Yasha." A hand rested gently on Yasha's bicep. "Come back to me, Yasha."

Yasha whipped around, pulling Beau into a crushing hug.

"I'm sorry," she mumbled into her girlfriend's hair. "I don't like him around you. He doesn't deserve to try and make amends after all he put you through. But I'm sorry if I overstepped."

She felt the low rumble of a chuckle as Beau hugged her back. "I'm not mad at you, Yasha," Beau said. "How could I be? I'm not used to having people who want to step up and protect me, because oftentimes… I don't need it."

Beau pulled back, eyes averted. "But I did need it today. Because I forgot he doesn't have power over me. He shouldn't have had the upper hand today." She looked up at Yasha. "Thank you, for reminding me of it."

Yasha felt her eyes burn. She gently cupped Beau's face and kissed her. A slow, sweet kiss because Yasha knew when Beau needed the comfort…even if she didn't want to ask.

Eventually, she drew back and kissed the monk's forehead instead. "No one will ever make you feel powerless again. We'll make sure of it."

Beau hummed. "So! What are you doing here?"

Yasha gasped, almost comically. "The bread!"

She ran back to where she'd dropped the basket and gingerly brought it back over. "I brought lunch! Caduceus and I made bread and then there's also fruit and little cakes and ooh!" Yasha dug into the basket and pulled out a jar filled with white covered snacks. "Jester helped me find yogurt covered bugs! I'm excited to try them."

Beau stared at her fondly. Heat filled Yasha's cheeks.

"What?"

The human shook her head. "You're just so adorable."

A goofy grin crawled over the aasimar's face. "Who? Me?"

Beau laughed and linked their arms together. "Come on. There's a sweet balcony Yudala lets me use when I'm here. I think you'll like it. It overlooks all of Zadash."

Yasha smiled lovingly at her girlfriend. "That sounds unbelievably perfect."
