At The End Of The World Together Forever

Summary:

"Why did you ask me to come with you?" Beomgyu asked him again with a low voice. It was still questionable for him, they weren't friends. Yeonjun had to hold back his smile.
"Because you don't ask these kind of questions." It was partially true.
"But at some point I will know or are you going to leave me by the streets the second we are entering the city?"
"Still considering." He just answered teasingly.

///

The popular Choi Yeonjun persuades the nerdy Beomgyu to come with him on a road trip to a city that holds something unspoken and repressive for the two boys.
On the way there, they meet three boys who interfere with their togetherness and all together they experience an adventure they will never forget.

The following story is completely fictional and I do not at all associate the characters with real people!

Chapter Text

Through the aisles echoed the ceaseless noise of a locker being kicked over and over again in beat with the music played through the earphones. Looking at his phone, Yeonjun knew that the recess would soon start and with a grin on his face, he chose the song he was going to listen to next.

Slowly, students came out of the classrooms and Yeonjun pushed himself away from the locker he was leaning onto and walked along the hallway and up the stairs, leading to the second floor. He was walking at the same speed as the music that played through his ears, feeling as if Donovan was right inside his head, personally telling Yeonjun to pick up every stitch.

When he got to the classroom, Yeonjun straight up walked through the door, immediately knowing where his target was, and put his hands on the desk to casually prop himself up. With a grin on his face, he watched the boy intently writing on his work paper without looking up from it.

“Lost touch with reality?” Yeonjun asked him, teasing his busy gaze. Beomgyu stopped writing down his homework and met Yeonjun’s eyes through his round glasses. He looked at him with a rather confused look than an amused one, wondering why Choi Yeonjun was approaching him all of a sudden despite them not interacting with each other very often.

“Why that face, Beomgyu? Surprised by my handsomeness?” Beomgyu had to gulp at that quietly, Yeonjun not noticing his flustered response.

“Do you want my homework again?” Beomgyu asked in return, still questioning Yeonjun’s appearance in front of his desk.

“No, not this time. More like an invitation for you.”

“Invitation?” What does that mean?
Yeonjun's grin grew bigger.

“An invitation to an adventure.” Yeonjun’s eyes lit up when he thrillingly and exaggeratedly worded his sentence, expectantly waiting for a less confused look on Beomgyu’s face. But he only looked at him dumbfounded.

“What?”

“A road trip. You and me and the music in my phone. It will be fun!”

“Why me?” Beomgyu couldn’t read Yeonjun’s intentions from his face nor could he think of a possible reason for him to exclusively ask Beomgyu to go on a road trip with him. They were only classmates, nothing more than a quick talk about the homework they had to do because Yeonjun could never concentrate in class properly, and that’s it.

“Because…” Yeonjun began and leaned his head closer to Beomgyu’s who only looked at him questionable.

“You have an amazing taste in music. A good companion for a road trip needs good music, perfectly fitting for a journey inside a car, and you, classmate, are the perfect candidate for that.”

“How do you know what music I listen to?” Beomgyu wondered with furrowed brows, doubting that Choi Yeonjun would like the same kind of music as Beomgyu.

Yeonjun raised his left hand and pointed at Beomgyu’s phone, which was laying at the corner of his desk, without breaking eye contact with him.

“You always have your screen open when you listen to music in your free lessons.” Beomgyu looked down at his phone, sighed quietly and put it in his pocket.

“That isn’t really a reason for you to ask me out on a road trip.” Beomgyu argued while he grabbed his books and stuffed them into his backpack. Yeonjun lifted his hands off the desk and watched Beomgyu packing up his stuff.

“I wouldn’t ask you when I didn’t know that you already had a plan sketched out for that.” Yeonjun said and put his flat hand on the paper that Beomgyu wanted to pack in his backpack just now. Yeonjun moved away his index finger to reveal a map that was colored with a red pen that showed a clear route to a destination a few miles from here.

Beomgyu fixed his glasses before he continued packing his things up.

“That’s nothing.”

“Oh that is surely not nothing. You’ve been sketching on that thing for about two weeks now and knowing that your rich parents could easily bring you there but don’t do it for a reason that is unknown to me, got me to the conclusion that you don’t have anyone to drive you there.”

“I could go with the bus.” Yeonjun chuckled at that.

“How stupid do you think I am? Sketching out a clear route just for the bus driver to drive his own? Come on Beomgyu, there is no way for you to say no.”

“No.” Beomgyu spoke out and stood up from his desk while smoothly putting on his backpack. Yeonjun watched him walking out of the classroom, running after him and walking beside him as he tried to change Beomgyu’s mind.

“You don’t have to pay for anything, promise. Though it wouldn’t be your biggest problem, I would cover it all up. There are no disadvantages for you, you get a driver and free food and all that. And you get fifty percent power of the music we will listen to on the way.” Beomgyu walked with quick steps to the exit, not looking at Yeonjun just once, who walked backwards next to him.

“Oh come on, does it really sound that bad?”

“Yes.” Beomgyu opened the exit door and Yeonjun slipped quickly through it, still following Beomgyu with every step he took.

“I don’t wanna be stuck with you in your old car for three days.” Beomgyu explained weakly, wanting to pinch his eyes shut at that weak explanation but he only looked forward with a resting gaze.

“My car is in the best condition, thank you.” Yeonjun replied with an annoyed undertone, not accepting the insult against his car.

“Besides, I’m not a bad driver so you don’t have to be scared for it to be a highway to hell.” Beomgyu had to smile at that joke but couldn’t elaborate on it further as they approached the bus that waited in front of the school gate.
Yeonjun stood with one foot in the bus, holding back Beomgyu from further walking in it, hearing a sigh coming out of his mouth as he turned around to Yeonjun.

He looked into Yeonjun’s eyes which sparkled at him with a puppy-like look, his last try to change Beomgyu’s mind.
Beomgyu couldn’t step back from Yeonjun’s invitation, it was too good of a deal to not accept it.

“What are you even listening to the whole time?” Beomgyu asked Yeonjun all of a sudden and took out one of his earphones and put it into his right ear. A few students pushed themselves past the two boys to get onto the bus.

“Season of the Witch by Donovan.” Yeonjun answered his question with a weak smile, still hoping he would accept his offer.

“I didn’t know you listen to such music.”

“Okay, now you are talking bullshit.” Yeonjun laughed at him and Beomgyu couldn’t hold in his laughter now and chuckled with him.

“So what do you say?” Yeonjun asked him again, thinking that maybe he would change his answer, now that he smiled at him brightly, his teeth showing widely.
Beomgyu looked him in the eyes. The two faced each other, one earphone in one another’s ear and Donovan singing through the silence of them both.

“Ok, I’m in.” Beomgyu interrupted Donovan and pushed his backpack back on properly. Yeonjun grinned at him widely as he clenched his hand to a fist in excitement.

“I knew you would say yes!” Yeonjun lied happily, knowing fully well that he felt anxious that Beomgyu declined his offer just a few seconds ago. Beomgyu smiled at his excitement and couldn’t feel less happy about it when he saw Yeonjun’s contagious uplifting mood.

“Ok, I will wait for you tomorrow at the school parking lot so pack your things and stuff-”

“Wait, wait, wait, you wanna drive tomorrow already?”

“Yup.” Beomgyu looked at him dumbfounded. He couldn’t bear Yeonjun's lack of responsibility but it wasn’t as if Beomgyu didn’t expect that from him.

“We have school tomorrow. And on the day after.”

“It’s just two days, Beomgyu. Get yourself a grip and don’t think about school all the time, it’s annoying.”

“It’s annoying until there is homework.” Beomgyu commented and grinned teasingly. Yeonjun only smiled at him wickedly before pressing his lips together, his nose getting wrinkled like an upset cat before he carefully grabbed Beomgyu’s glasses and put them on himself.

“Ya!” Beomgyu could only exclaim, but he was too slow to intervene Yeonjun’s action and just watched him fixing his glasses like Beomgyu did earlier. He couldn't help but blush at the sight of Yeonjun wearing his glasses. It looked way too good on Yeonjun, better than on himself.

“Come on, Beomgyu.” Yeonjun whispered at him and put on a pretty face to show off Beomgyu's glasses. Beomgyu sighed again, an action he would continue if he stayed with Yeonjun.

“I already said yes, so…” The glasses on Yeonjun’s nose moved up slightly as he smiled victoriously at him.

Less students fit in the bus and the bus driver called out to close the doors, mainly because of Yeonjun who still stood with one foot outside of the bus.
Yeonjun quickly grabbed the earphone that was still in Beomgyu’s ear and tried to be gentle while doing it.

“Tomorrow. Parking lot. And don’t you dare not come.” Yeonjun was ready to go but stopped in his tracks as he almost forgot the most important part. He held the door open with one hand and took a step on the bus again, pulling out his phone and taking a picture of Beomgyu.

“What are you doing?”

“A picture for the playlist. I’m gonna send you the link to put in your songs.” He quickly explained and put his phone back into his pocket. Beomgyu looked at Yeonjun’s hands flustered and tightly gripped the carrier of his backpack. He raised his hand to fix his glasses but realized that Yeonjun was still wearing them.

“My glasses.” He said and weakly pointed at them, not wanting to grab them himself. Yeonjun smiled at him softly.

“You look pretty without glasses.” Beomgyu felt the heat going up his cheeks and the grip around his backpack got tighter.

“That’s not really a compliment.” Yeonjun gave him the glasses and took a step back from the bus, the door starting to close slowly.

“You are pretty with and without glasses.” He smiled as the door shut and the bus started moving. Beomgyu’s wide opened eyes were fixed at Yeonjun until he was out of sight. He still wondered if it was a good idea to accept his offer or if it would really be a trip to hell.
