Work Text:
“How’d you get skin so soft like that?” a nurse whispered to another in a hushed tone as they waited for the elevator, lips pointing towards Renjun who’s waiting with them.
“That’s Doctor Huang Renjun. Dermatology,” the other responds. “He’s one of the best in there. Senior Resident.”
“Is he…you know, single?”
“That, I don’t know. But nurses who have been here for a long time think he’s dating a fellow resident.”
If there’s one thing that Renjun hates, it’s when people talk behind his back like he’s not even there. He chewed on his lower lip as he focused his eyes on the floor indicators blinking towards the second floor.
As the doors open, Renjun hears the nurses giggling.
“Good morning, Doctor Lee,” they greeted in unison.
There are only four Lees in the hospital– the Medical Director and his sons. They don’t emphasize their relationship inside the hospital that much, but Renjun knows it since he had a past encounter with one of them.
Minhyung Lee, Senior Resident of the Pediatrics Department. The eldest son.
Jeno Lee, Senior Resident of the OB Department. The second son, his past encounter.
And Donghyuck Lee, Senior Resident of the Radiology Department. The youngest son and someone he considers as his closest friend out of the three.
“Good morning, ladies,” someone with a deep voice responded, and Renjun tried his best to pretend to not know him as he walked out of the elevator, gesturing for the nurses to come in.
It was Lee Jeno, his ex-boyfriend. They have been together in medical school, but a year before graduation, they decided to just part ways as they both want to focus on finishing the degree.
Jeno’s dad offered him the spot as a medical intern inside the hospital, which he gladly accepted despite knowing he’d be seeing Jeno around. The hospital is prestigious in all of Seoul, so it will give him better chances if he decides to pursue his career abroad.
It was almost a relief (no, it wasn’t because he occasionally misses him) that they rarely meet during his first year inside the hospital as he assumed that they were both preparing for the boards.
But the months following that was a different story.
After the boards, Renjun decided to open himself up for what Donghyuck calls “funtime”. Hookups, flings, blind dates. Something that does not involve emotions.
But Jeno would always pop out of nowhere, especially inside the bars where he just wanted to drink the shit out of himself.
So he ends up as his fling for a year and so now. They agreed to let each other meet someone else, and then end their agreement once one of them decides to date someone for real.
-
He could smell Jeno’s scent from behind him, his fingers brushing against his.
“Good morning,” he whispers.
“Hi, morning,” Renjun responds, tongue poking his cheek.
The next elevator opens in front of them, Jeno walking in as he browsed on his phone. He turns to face him, and he realizes Jeno is still using his birthday gift from last year– the phone case he painted with an image of his cats.
Renjun hesitates, squinting his eyes as he sees that teasing glint on Jeno's. He was challenging him, as if he wanted him to get inside that elevator now.
"Aren’t you getting in, Doctor Huang?" Jeno asks.
"Yeah," Renjun nods, stepping inside the elevator. As soon as it closes, Jeno faces him, smirking.
"So how was your date?"
"Why do you care?" Renjun clicks his tongue. "It's been years, Jen. Unless you still haven't moved on."
Jeno chuckles at that, hands inside his pocket. "As if I had a choice in the breakup."
Renjun stares at him, tongue poking his cheek. "My date was nice. He kissed me nicely too."
Renjun, with his Aries sun and pride in line, lied. The date was a mess. They never reached the kissing part either.
Jeno's eyes gaze at him as he calmly walked towards him. Renjun panics, his eyes shaking as his back hit the elevator walls.
He pressed the 'close door' button as they reached the Pediatrics floor.
"Did he make you moan his name?" Jeno asks, almost a whisper, his nose touching Renjun's.
"Y-Yes," he replies. Jeno leans in for a kiss, and he responds to it as if his body did not forget. His arms coil around his neck, pulling him in as he sucked his bottom lip.
Jeno pulls away, releasing the button from his finger. "Your date sucked, Ren. Don't lie." He chuckles, tucking the stray hair away from Renjun's face.
The elevator door opens with Donghyuck and Chenle arguing outside. They stopped talking, in pure disbelief that the pair is seen together without bickering.
"Is this…true? Miracle?" Donghyuck asks as he steps inside. It was Jeno's cue to exit, sending out a salute to them as he leaves. "I got Mark waiting for me, see you guys."
He then looks at Renjun, doing a phone sign by his ear.
Call me. He mouths.
Fuck you. Renjun tells himself. He hates just how Jeno knows his body more than him. He rolled his eyes as the pair beside him punched in their respective floors.
“So,” Donghyuck looks at him with a judging look on his face. “Your lips look swollen,”
His eyes widen, glancing at himself using his phone. “Really?”
“I don’t know about you guys,” Chenle shrugs. “But instead of being each other’s hookups, why don’t you just get back together? It’s tiring to see how the female nurses would try their best in seducing Jeno hyung, which he of course declines since he’s not interested in vaginas except if it’s for diagnosis.”
“Guys,” Renjun heaves a sigh. “We’re not even sure if he wants to get back together.”
“Judging from how he never lets anyone inside his office unsupervised except you,” Donghyuck clicks his tongue. “I think he does. Did you even try asking him?”
“Why would–”
“You see, he would always whine at Minhyung and me whenever we drink at home. He would always say that the breakup was what you wanted. He did not break up with you because you mutually wanted it, Jun.”
As soon as it dings to the fifth floor, Renjun turns his heels. “He wanted it too. He would say no if he doesn’t. See you,” he walks out of the elevator, waving at the two.
“This is why I hate relationships, you know,” Donghyuck shrugs at Chenle.
“You’ve basically dated 60% of the doctor population in this institution, hyung,” Chenle smiles back as the door closes.
Was it really like that? Did Jeno only agree because Renjun wanted it? What Donghyuck told him bothered his head the whole day, leading him to Jeno’s door after his consultation hours.
Jeno was talking to his last patient, so Renjun sat down the waiting area with the coffee and lunch he bought for him.
As soon as the patient got out, Renjun peeked out of his door, waving the paper bag on his hand.
“Come in now,” Jeno chuckles, stretching his arms out.
Renjun shakes his head, but still walks towards him, placing the bag on his table. “Figured you haven’t had lunch yet.”
Jeno nods, wrapping his arms around the small of Renjun’s waist. “Yeah, good thing you’re here,”
He cards his fingers through his hair, humming softly. “Busy day?”
Jeno nods, looking up at him. “I was waiting for you to call me,”
He tilts his head, eyes blinking. “Why should I?”
“Your birthday is in a few days,” Jeno responds, pulling him to his lap. “Do you have plans?”
He shakes his head. “I’m planning to go to work that day–”
“Let’s take a day off, I’ll take you out on a date.”
Renjun blinks, biting his lower lip. His mind takes him back to what Donghyuck said earlier this day.
“A date, huh? How sure are you that I don’t have one planned that day?” he asks teasingly.
Jeno rolls his eyes, leaning his face closer to him. “Your dates suck, Huang.”
Do they suck? Or are they just not you, Jeno? He asks himself, but does not bother speaking out about it. Instead he leans back, pressing Jeno’s lips to his.
Jeno responds to the kiss pulling his waist closer to his body.
“Should I consider this as a yes?” he asks in between kisses.
“Yeah,” Renjun replies. “You should.”
