three dates

Summary:

“I’m just asking for three dates, and if I fail, I will concede.”

“And what makes you think I’ll accept your offer?”

Jaemin shrugs, fixing the fringe of his brown hair. “You not kicking me out despite asking non-work related questions right now?”

Work Text:

“Give me three dates, Professor Lee.” Jaemin told him as he sat anterior to him, placing two cups of iced americano between them.

“Look, Na I know–”

“I’m just asking for three dates, and if I fail, I will concede.”

“And what makes you think I’ll accept your offer?”

Jaemin shrugs, fixing the fringe of his brown hair. “You not kicking me out despite asking non-work related questions right now?”

Pretty. Minhyung told himself. Too pretty to be wasted on someone who couldn’t even keep his first love, even letting him marry someone else.

“You see, Na. I’m not planning to date anytime soon.”

“You see, Professor Lee, I’m not planning on giving up anytime soon either.” Jaemin stands up, checking the time from his phone. “Enjoy the coffee!” he waves, walking out of his office.

“Three times?” Jeno asked, clicking his tongue as they walked towards his office. Minhyung nods, pinching the bridge of his nose with a sigh.

“Yeah, Jaemin. My resident,” Minhyung replies, placing his specs back after wiping it clean. “He asked me for three dates.”

“Oh…your resident, huh.” Jeno chuckles, smiling at one of the interns that greeted them. “Tell me, how would you be able to go on a date if you can’t even greet the interns properly?”

“In my defense, I do greet them.”

“Asking pop quizzes whenever you get dead air is not considered as a greeting, Minhyung.”

“But it could be considered as an interaction, right?”

Jeno tilts his head at him, shaking it in disbelief. “So about Na, are you accepting his offer?”

“No,” Minhyung scoffs. “Actually, I don’t know. I mean, he might be playing games with me. If only you saw how he looked at me dead in the eyes as he stated his proposition.”

“It meant he was dead serious about dating you, you know. And to be honest, I have to question his taste at this point.”

Minhyung smacked his lips as he stopped walking. “Says the one who has not gone over his ex of five years, right?”

“To be fair,” Jeno placed his hands inside his coat pocket. “We both aren’t over each other. And this isn’t about me either. This is about you and your fear of dating again after…after–”

“We were together for ten years, Jen.”

“I understand, but it didn’t work, did it? What happened between the two of you will not happen in the rest of the relationships you’ll be in,”

“I’ll be wasting his time,” Minhyung heaves a sigh, following Jeno to his door.

“Who?”

They both look where the voice is coming from. It was Renjun, sitting on Jeno’s table. Minhyung gave Jeno a questioning look as he walked to the table, leaning his head on Renjun’s shoulder.

“I’m asking, Minhyung. Who?”

“Na Jaemin of Pediatrics. Resident with a pining crush on him for three years. You smell so good, you know.” Jeno mumbles, an arm coiling around Renjun’s waist.

“Oh,” Renjun nods. “I know him, I often see him in this cat cafe I frequent. He’s nice, and very smart too! He pays and computes his own taxes!”

“Aren’t you exes?” Minhyung asks them in disbelief.

“I told you, we aren’t over each other yet,”

“He isn’t, he messes up my dates,” Renjun rolls his eyes, pinching Jeno’s ear. “I think you should shoot your shot the soonest, hyung. Wong Guanheng of Neuro has his eyes on Pretty Boy.”

“I said I’m not interested in him, not at all.”

Renjun nods, feigning belief in his words.

Minhyung continued telling himself that until he went out of Jeno’s office. So much for the public display of affection between exes.

He was about to visit Donghyuck in the Radiology Room when he decided to stop by the reception area to check if Jaemin’s done with his admin tasks. As he was walking over, he saw Guanheng by the counter, holding a cup of coffee in one hand.

“Have you seen the Multiverse of Madness? Got an extra ticket for this weekend,”

Jaemin looks at him, shaking his head politely. “I’m busy these days, Professor.”

“Two hours, Jaemi–”

“Resident Na,” Mark cuts in, eyeing Guanheng. “Are you done? I’ll be in the office. Let me drive you home.”

“Drive me home?”

Minhyung nods, then greets Guanheng with a smile. “Hello Doctor Wong. To answer your question– I kind of heard it from behind, I apologize. Jaemin isn’t free this weekend. We have a date.”

“Ohh,” Guanheng chuckles, raising his hands as he walked away. “Nice catch, Lee.”

Jaemin sucks his teeth, looking at him questionably. “Date? Drive me home? Look, Professor. I like you, I really do, but don’t mess up with my head.”

Minhyung leans by the counter, a smirk across his face. “Na, Saturday. 9pm. Steakhouse across the hospital.” he said, walking away from the reception area.

“And oh, I’ll be in my office in 30 minutes. Let’s go home together.” he gives him a nod, walking away to a confused Jaemin.
