TRAILER RECAP: Battle Chefs (S10 Finale)
Despite the controversy in the semi-final, the judges have allowed Meng Yao to continue into the Final, and the top two home cooks go into battle. This one is for personal glory - the Player vs Player competition has ended (with a resounding victory for Jiang Cheng).
Round One: Original Dishes
The contestants prepared dishes in separate rooms for the judges to taste.
Meng Yao's Sung Choi Bao with a Twist was an astonishing reinvention of a classic.
Lan Bubai's Black Pepper Crab wowed the judges, but wasn't quite the best dish. Winner: Meng Yao
Round Two: Recipe Challenge
Both chefs attempted to recreate a recipe by guest chef Jin Guangshan, Gold Crackle.
Winner: Lan Bubai.
Round Three: Taste and Deliver
The contestants were each presented with their opponent's dish from the first round to taste, and challenged to recreate it.
Meng Yao's Black Pepper Crab was deemed adequate. Lan Bubai's Sung Choi Bao lacked the complexity of the original.
At the end of the episode it was revealed that Jiang Fengmian, this season's Boss Battle Chef, would be stepping down, and the winner of the competition would be offered his position in the next season.
Meng Yao won, and accepted.
The new season of Battle Chefs begins this weekend!

"He stole every recipe," Lan Zhan seethes. He'd look calm to anyone else, but Lan Huan knows better.
"Not necessarily," he says weakly, even though... yes. He did. He wonders if this is why Uncle always said it was a bad idea to date other chefs.
He's not really shocked when Lan Zhan applies to be a contestant on the next season. He's not at all surprised when Lan Zhan is accepted. If anything, Lan Zhan is a better cook than Lan Huan himself, he just never wanted to be a professional chef.
Uncle is going to be unhappy. Lan Zhan, on television? Competing and debasing himself?
Oh dear.
