For Albrecht it was a busy day as the owner of a cozy bistro in a small trading town somewhere near Crimonia. Thankfully lunchtime was already over so he had some time to relax and regain powers till the evening rush.
Truth be told the bistro was Albrecht‘s second job. Albrecht was a spy for the Triform Kingdom. His bistro acted as a convenient place to meet with informants. In addition to that the small talk with customers was a good way to collect information about public opinion and learn the latest gossip in town. Although his business is just a front, Albrecht felt genuine happiness when he could make peoples days better through his food.
While Albrecht was cleaning the counter while lost in his thoughts a group of schoolgirls entered and sat down at one of the tables.
- "Have you already chosen?“
Albrecht asked his young customers.
- "apple juice“
- "a glass milk“
- "cherry juice“
- "and Apfelschmarn for all three of us“
After bringing the drinks Albrecht went back to his open kitchen to prepare the meals. Having nothing better to do he listened to the girls conversaton with one ear while he made the dough.
- "So when you become a bear fan you report everything bear related to me or Shia. What you did with Yuna, when you saw her, rumors about her, everything. Noa and Fina collect all of the reports and create a bimonthly newsletter and send it to bear fans everywhere in Elfanica Kingdom. So are you two interested in joining?“
- "But Cattleya I don‘t know any bear stories can I still join?“
- "You don‘t know any stories yet . And every member counts if we want to get to 10,000 members.
Albrecht could not believe it. Someone really created a nationwide intelligence network just to observe a single person. Who was that person? Albrecht would have been a bad spy if he didn‘t try to gather more information.
- "Hey I heard you talking about a bear fanclub. I love cute bears. Could I join as well?“ asked Albrecht when he brought the meals.
- "Of course. Yuna is so cute in her bear costume. And her bears are even cuter. You will love her. And Yuna is strong and brave as well. If you want to join you just have write your name and adress here“
- "How can I reach you with bear stories?“
Albrecht asked Cattleya the girl doing the recruiting.
- "Just write a letter two me or Shia. Here is my address. Your membership card should arrive with the next newsletter.“
Roughly two months later a parcel from the capital arrived. It it was his membership card, the current newsletter and a starting kit for new fans containing an introduction to Yuna and the best stories so far. After reading the newsletter he understood the need for a spy network. Yuna was a person who could walk into the king‘s office without prior communication and borrrow the head chef. It was only natural wanting to be informed about her actions. Although judging from the bear cartoons and crafting instructions for bear merch most bear fans were here for cuteness not politics.
Was he the only spy in the fanclub? Had other nations already spies in the fandom? He will never know.
