"Leona!! Don't fall back to sleep!"
The shout filled the morning air of the Savannaclaw housewarden's dorm room, but it still wasn't enough to rip said housewarden out of the throes of sleep. Ruggie - the one who had shouted - groaned after a moment of waiting for even a tiny sign of movement from Leona. Nothing - Leona Kingscholar was out cold.
What's the point of using me as an alarm clock if he's not even going to get up?!
In the back of his mind, Ruggie suspected it was due to Leona expecting something like what he was about to do now. Ruggie approached his sleeping housewarden, prepared himself with a deep breath, then took a hold of his body. Heaving with a surprising amount of upper body strength for a boy his size, Ruggie started to haul Leona out of bed.
It all came to a crashing halt the moment he felt arms around him. Startled, Ruggie stopped his actions for a second too long. By the time he had realized the tables had turned, he was already being dragged into the bed. Having not prepared himself to match Leona's strength, he was unable to stop it.
So, Ruggie found himself trapped against Leona's chest while Leona's arms pinned his own to his sides. They laid on their sides on the bed, Leona's chin pressing into the top of Ruggie's skull.
"C'mon, Leona, I'm not in the mood for pranks..."
However, when he turned his head up, he saw that Leona's face was mostly unchanged from when he saw it last. The same for his steady, rhythmic breathing. Leona was still fast asleep. He had done all that in his sleep.
Oh, you have got to be kidding me!
Squirming to disturb Leona's rest only made the housewarden groan and hold tighter. Ruggie also attempted to slowly slip through, but that made Leona change positions and reset his progress. He almost thought of yelling, but was afraid of catching more than just Leona's attention. What if anyone else saw him like this?!
After several minutes of Ruggie’s escape attempts failing, he realized he was out of options. There was no getting out of this. He’d just have to wait until Leona woke up on his own.
That thought worried him. How was his housewarden going to react to the situation? Not only did he fail to wake Leona up like he was supposed to, he allowed himself to get into an embarrassing position. Embarrassing for both himself and Leona, actually.
Sighing, he forced his body to begin to relax. There was nothing else that could be done, so why worry now? He would just have to wait and pray.
With that in mind, Ruggie focused on his own breathing as he maintained calmness and counted the seconds going by. He closed his eyes - to enhance his focus, but also because there wasn’t much else to do anyway. At some point, his breaths became in sync with Leona’s.
Then, there were two boys fast asleep on the same bed.
An annoying, jabbing pressure into his side shattered the sleep spell and dragged Ruggie back into the waking world. His mind was foggy. He groaned in response to the disturbance and swatted at whatever it was.
Skin was what he felt. There was no time to register it before a familiar voice spoke.
“Nap time’s over, bud.”
His eyes shot open when he realized it was Leona, as the memories flooded back to him. Ruggie was off the bed and on his feet almost instantaneously. His face was burning red. He saw that Leona was on his knees on the bed, still processing what just happened.
“It’s not what you think!” Ruggie shouted. “You- I tried really hard- This wasn’t my-“
Leona’s sudden laughter cut him off. That was when Ruggie realized the second worst outcome of this - that Leona, instead of being mad, would relentlessly tease him over this. The smug smile he got when the laughter calmed down only confirmed it.
