Work Text:

It was a freak accident. Bad timing all around. One moment he had been watching his hellions explore a museum, the next? Explosions, rubble and the horror that the same event that took his best friend would happen to his kids.

Pushing his limits, disregarding his health and overall tempting fate, Shouta managed to save his students from any heavy injuries. But as the last member of 1-A left the danger zone, the rest of the building came tumbling down onto him. And for one horrible moment, Shouta believed he wouldn’t make it out at all.

Not being able to see, not being able to hear, his mind wandered back to the USJ that was nearly a month ago now. He hadn’t managed to meet with Izuku since then, and hadn’t gotten to hear what he needed to say that was so important.

He wouldn’t see the crazy bastard again…would he?

Darkness was his friend, it had protected him for years, but now it felt like it was holding him captive. How bad was it? Was he dead? Is this how Oboro felt? God, he was going to miss Tenko becoming his own man. The kid had only just graduated and become a hero himself. Fuck. His kids in 1-A would never be alright after this.

Shouta just…drifted for a while. It felt weird. Almost like he was submerged in warm salt water. He didn’t have to move to just float. God, he was getting old in his thoughts too. Then came the aches, the pain and the slightly dull noises.

So, not dead then. That was something at least.

It took another few days for Shouta to finally come too, and he felt like he’d been hit by a truck on coffee, which, technically he had. The students came by in groups, all sniffling and apologising, but Shouta simply told them to calm down and keep walking. He wasn’t completely out of it yet.

The one thing that did bug him was the number of congratulations he got from them. Even Bakugo, who had refrained from tears but wouldn’t stop moving his hands in a familiar anxious movement said so.

“That’s the 35th one now, why are you all saying that?” Shouta had asked, feeling a headache coming on. Shouta frowned when Katsuki simply grinned and shrugged. So Shouta pushed it aside to focus on recovery. He dreaded the thought of the bill, sure he had some insurance, but he was an unaffiliated underground hero and teacher. It wasn’t the be-all and cure-all to healing. And he was getting the best.

This just screamed that devious little shit.

Aizawa got his answer when he was leaving, Hizashi was buzzing extra loud but that wasn’t anything compared to the shock and fundamental dread building as he looked at the bill. The fact he didn’t have one.

Aizawa Shouta must pay 400,000 yen after deductions, however Aizawa Shouta’s Spouse has paid for the bill with his own insurance. Have deducted from the original cost to cover Marriage Tax. Final Amount to pay 0.

Spouse? He didn’t have a spouse. He wasn’t married. He wasn’t even dating! Completely in denial that his coffee dates counted.

“Zashi?” he called out, eyes not moving off the paper. The blonde hero, his oldest best friend, hummed in reply. “Did I get married?” he asked dumbly, because really, he would remember that.

“Well, technically,” Shouta looked up slowly at the wide grin, the sparkling eyes and the giddy bounce.

“What do you mean, Technically?” Shouta asked, that familiar dread building. Because no, surely there was a rule that a coma patient couldn’t marry!

“When you got hurt, and we didn’t know if you were going to make it…” Hizashi seemed to calm at that, a sort of dullness that hurt. “Well, we didn’t know what to do. They kept asking for decisions…me and Nem, we tried, but we were shaken. Then Anomaly!”

Of Fucking Course.

“Anomaly arrived, he had all these things to get you the best care. It was terrifying but he took one look at us and said you were going to pull through and if we would help him get control over the paperwork. We originally tried to say he was your partner, but, the hospital was very clear that he had no power over you unless married.” Hizashi led him to the stupid green car that the loud hero loved.

“Then what?” Shouta asked, trying to figure out if this was really bad or really, really bad.

“Well Nem said he was your husband!” Hizashi laughed faintly, though it seemed strained. “Even Anomaly looked alarmed at that, but didn’t fight it. So, while they were talking about your surgery and costs and fees and we all know you have money but the amount they wanted was insane!” Shouta felt his head hit the back of the car seat. He was dreaming, still in that fucking coma, had to be.

“Me and Nem didn’t want to lose you, Sho, but we were commiting fraud. Us! Heroes! Fraud! But then Anomaly said what if it was true? We were a bit wary, but he agreed to do a one to one interview on the station and said Nem could be a maid of honour. She squealed so loud. It was nice to see her smile after….after that.” Shouta winced, Nemuri had been dating Orobo at the time of his accident. So yeah, he could see that.

“So I’m married?” he asked, and the gifts, congratulations and cards made more sense now.

“By law, yeah, but Anomaly was pretty insistent that if you didn’t want it, you could just keep it for insurance reasons until you actually wanted to get married to someone, he said he would annul it. Sho, that man loves you. Like a scary amount, he was so confident you would pull through and wouldn’t let anyone think otherwise. Heck, Nedzu has had him keeping an eye on 1-A after classes.” Hizashi gave a weak laugh at that.

Anomaly, Izuku, was currently looking after his class. He was currently married to the villain/pro hero/vigilante. What was his life?

“Okay.” Shouta found himself saying.

“Okay?” Hizashi parroted as he drove, looking a mix between alarmed and excited. “Do we get to keep him?” he added, looking more like his old self.

“Izuku isn’t a dog, Zashi,” Shouta muttered as he closed his eyes. Fuck his life.

Izuku?” came a tease, and really, he had just had a building drop on him. He really didn’t need this level of sass.

“Shut the fuck up and drive, you fucking cockatoo,” the tired hero hissed, though it held no heat or anger. God, he really shouldn’t just accept this…

Reaching Alliance Heights, he heard laughter and what sounded like water. The hero walked around and saw what looked like his entire class in simple gym gear having a water fight. And there, in the middle, shouting commands to what looked like a patrol of grinning gremlins, in nothing but skin-tight leggings, was Anomaly. Shouta took a moment to take in the scars, the wounds that were long healed and injuries that probably hurt still.

Wet green curls stuck to his head, viridian eyes alight with chaos and a smile that made Shouta sigh. Yeah, he had accepted this too fast.

“DAD!” came a cry and the whole of 1A turned to a now blushing, mouth-covered Ashido Mina. Then, one by one, the class finally noted him. And then he was ambushed by 20 soaking teenagers.

“We said we weren’t going to call him dad to his face, Mina,” came a half whisper, it seemed Ochako agreed to the sentiment.

“Now, now, Kiddies! Daddy has just got back from the hosptial. Line up!” Izuku was beaming, ruffling his wet curls and walking up. 1-A all gave a squeal, dodging and battling to line up by the villain. “Sound off!” Izuku called and put his hands on his hips.

“Number 1, Yuga! Glad to see you still sparkling, Sensei!” it went through all the students, calling their seat number and some welcome back, we missed you and help us from the demonic deity (Which earned a playful smack from the greenette). Then, they all bowed and thanked him for saving them.

Shouta did not tear up.

“You weren’t supposed to train them on command, Anomaly.” Shouta stated, watching the villain simply shrug and bit his lip to hold a laugh back.

“They were already well trained, must have a really good teacher, You wouldn’t know where I could find him?” Snarky fucker, Shouta shook his head and waved the kids away.

“No, but you and I, we are going to talk about boundaries again. Because what the fuck?” Shouta watched the playfulness fade and some cold, calculating thing take over.

“I know, but I asked Tenko!” Izuku huffed and rubbed his head, “You were dying and they weren’t doing anything.” Aizawa sighed and put his hand on the wet hair, brushing out of the freckled man’s face.

“I know, and I thank you. But really? You could have just asked.” the tired hero smirked at the blush but huffed again, “You asked Tenko? Did he try to stab you this time?” Shouta motioned for the man to follow as he walked to sit down. He was too tired now.

“I gave him an I.O.U to stabbing, you were more important. And I promised to let…let you annul it if you wanted it. I just needed you to stay alive, Shouta. So…just use me. Okay? You are probably the only one I’d let use me..” it sounded so sad, so sweet and one would say almost insanely romantic.

And it showed that Midoriya Izuku wouldn’t be able to live or love like a normal person. The man before him had given too much, still gave too much, and expected anger and hate in return.

“Oh, Married for two weeks and already trying to get rid of me,” Shouta smirked at the snort, but softened at the hope in those green pools. Izuku really was something else. “Also, you and Nedzu? How did you avoid All Might?”

“I didn’t. He walked in on one of our chess matches. I haven’t seen him since, but I did see Sir Nighteye at some point, that one was weird. Just bowed to me and thanked me, for what I have no fucking clue,” Izuku shrugged and sighed, falling back onto the grass.

“You owe me a ring, Izuku.” Shouta mused and looked up to the sky, what was his life and why was he so calm?

“After Tenko has stabbed me,” came a defeated huff, “is there anything else you want? Just tell me, and it’s yours,” Izuku was so honest and even this…it felt like a mix of a promise and a threat. But it just made Shouta think of their coffee dates and unspoken words.

“Just coffee, and to teach you boundaries,” Izuku laughed at that. And maybe, just maybe, being married wouldn’t be too bad…
