Summary
“Your sleeping problem. How long has it been going on?”
“I don’t…Malfoy, I don’t have sleeping problem.”
“You’re lying.”
----------
It’s been six years since the Battle of Hogwarts. In the midst of a new and brutal war, Hermione Granger cannot recognize the soldier she’s become.
Healer Draco Malfoy has enough on his plate without worrying about Granger and her martyr complex. Why, then, can he not banish her from his mind?
It’s a duty of care, he tells himself.
A duty of care, and nothing more.

(Read up to Chapter 57, unfinshed and (infrequently) updating?) Holy shit. Wow this is amazing. I love how everyone else sees the burgeoning Dramione except for them. The theme of balance is incredible. And I love the hospital drama-esque bits of Book 2. Rana is a new favorite OC.

"The truth was, Hermione didn’t know if Minerva would handle it. She didn’t know if the donations would be enough. But there was simply not enough room in her heart to carry another crisis."
A/n: "The final reason, though, is more sociopolitical. I feel like, in fantasy, we often see women heroines lose their power/magic/abilities. They're then guided back to a place of power by a domineering (albeit good-looking/charming) male love-interest. I think this can be done in a way that's nuanced and careful, but I was still very aware of this pattern in fiction, and I decided that wasn't what I wanted for this story. I really like the idea of Draco protecting Hermione not because she's powerless but because he recognizes just how powerful she is. He sees and respects her abilities in a way that (I think) is very healthy and needed. Plus I've always wanted to see Hermione kick some major ass."
