Work Text:
Impulse blinked. The fog that had seemed to settle itself over his brain and eyes did not budge. Despite having gone to sleep tucked into his blankets neatly, he found himself tangled in them, limbs sprawled this and that way over the large bed. Impulse groaned, feeling his skin stick uncomfortably to his pyjamas. A thin sheen of sweat had already gathered on top of his exposed arms.
A quick glance to his comm told him it was, indeed, exactly what it seemed like. A reminder for an upcoming heat sat innocently at the top of his notifications. Now that he was slowly waking up, he could smell himself much more than usual as the cloying scent of apricots seemed to stick to every surface of the room.
Impulse shuffled out of bed, going through the motions of getting ready in the morning as well as he could. Sure, preheat didn’t debilitate him that much, and it was still possible for him to do some work on his various projects, but it was still a pain in the arse. He should probably take it easy.
“Hey, Impy!” A sharp scent of cinnamon entered his senses, announcing someone’s presence in his kitchen. Impulse looked up from his bowl of cereal to find a certain blonde man standing in the doorway.
“... Tango?”
“We were meant to restock Colour Complete together today, but you didn’t show up. So I thought I’d come check in on you and…” Tango waved a hand in front of his nose, wafting away imaginary fumes.
Shit. Impulse was meant to do that, wasn’t he? His stupid cycle had caused him to wake up late, most likely.
“... Uh. Sorry bud, I don’t think I can make it today. Gotta… Settle some things before, you know.” Impulse made a vague gesture as the other winced in sympathy.
“Yeah, I get it.” A pause. “My, uh, my offer from last time still stands. If you want.”
Tango’s offer. Right. Last time, the alpha had had the misfortune of walking in on Impulse during a full-blown heat. It had taken a lot of self-restraint for Tango to leave at the time, and even then he insisted on coming back once it had been all over to ensure Impulse was alright and offer help in the future if he wished for it. He mulled the idea over in his head. On one hand, it would be perfectly alright to just… Get help for his heat for once instead of waiting it out miserably alone. On the other hand, Impulse didn’t know how it would affect their friendship. He didn’t want a one-off to make years of friendship awkward or ruined. After all, he’d long come to terms with the fact that his love was unrequited.
“I’ll be fine, I think.” Tango nodded, and turned to leave.
“Promise you’ll comm me if you need anything? I can just leave it at your door, no biggie.”
“I will.” He would not. If Impulse knew anything about himself, it was that if his omega got even a whiff of Tango during his heat, he would be over at the alpha’s house in no time, and there was no telling what his omega would do once there. Instead, he sighed and resigned himself to yet another heat on his own.
