Work Text:
Janus was hurt. Not physically, do not worry. Mentally. Though, in some cases that might be worse.
You see, the “Dark Sides” as Roman lovingly referred to them as, were tight knitted. There was Janus, Remus, Wrath and Virgil.
Tears threatened to spill as he stared at the dark gray wall where a purple door used to be. He didn’t understand. Everything was fine. Virgil had been hanging out with the Light Sides more often recently but it was Janus’s idea!
Janus is Thomas’s Deceit, but he is also self-preservation and ever since the man decided to start actually talking to his sides to figure out issues, Janus decided that I’d be good for him to know his anxiety better and work with him. So, he convinced Virgil to introduce himself to him and would you look at that! It worked!
Thomas was more aware of himself and was able to take care of himself way better than he used to. But then, they made Virgil duck out. And god Janus was fuming. Remus went feral. Wrath was quite literally screaming and destroying his room. Again.
But they came for him. Because, of course they did. But hey, it worked. Virgil was back and… Happy.
They had a movie night that night. Virgil had fallen asleep half-way through with his head resting on Janus’s shoulder. Once it ended, Janus didn’t have the heart to wake him up so he carried him to his bed and left, silently closing the door so as to not wake him up.
But then, come morning, Janus had walked out of his room yawning. He started making his way down the hallway but stopped short when he noticed the dark gray wall.
Where. Was. The. Purple. Door.
Virgil’s door was gone. Janus is pretty sure he stopped breathing. He was completely frozen up until he heard a voice behind him,
“J?” Wrath yawned, “What are you doing standing in front of V’s door?”
Janus choked out, “He left.”
“What?”
“His door’s gone,” Janus’s voice was an octave higher.
Wrath stepped carefully around Janus and took in the wall. He took a deep breath, his hands forming into fists. Janus could practically feel the heat radiating off of him. Wrath disappeared for a second before he popped back in his initial spot,
“I can’t appear into his room,” Wrath’s eyes were slowly turning red.
Janus took a shaky breath and slowly took Wrath’s hand in his, coaxing it in his, slowly undoing the tight fist in was in,
“We have to tell Remus.”
“He’ll go feral again. We won’t be able to calm him down this time.”
Janus felt a tear escape his eye, “I know.”
Wrath was right, because of course he was but thankfully he didn’t feel the need to rub it into the deceitful side that day. Both were sitting at the dinner table, cups filled to the brim with cooling tea as they listened to the chaos Remus was raging in his bedroom.
The creative side had tried five times to pop into Virgil’s room before he went feral, and five more after he did. Janus and Wrath knew better than to try to stop him, scars on Wrath’s right side and Janus’s right leg were good reminders.
Few hours passed, Wrath had retreated to the living room, wanting to be more comfortable on their sofa than on the kitchen chair. Janus couldn’t bring himself to move, he barely drank his tea. Remus chaos couldn’t be heard anymore, he must be calming himself down as best as he could.
Janus shakily rose his cup to his mouth and slowly took a sip of his, now cold, tea as a door was heard creaking open. He put down his cup onto the table, listening as the dragging of feet was heard making their way behind him before a body was dropped against his back.
“It’s not fair.”
Janus took a breath and sighed, raising a hand to gently cup the back of Remus’s head, “I know, darling.”
He hiccupped a few times before turning his face to press it into Janus’s neck, “Why… Everyone leaves.”
“He didn’t have a choice.”
“He didn’t have to be friendly with them!”
Janus slowly got up and gathered Remus into his arms. Gently rubbing his back and running his fingers through his hair as the side sobbed in his neck. He shushed him gently, his own tears running down his face. He looked up as the floor creaked, Wrath had gotten up and made his way over, his own tears running down his face. Janus waved him closer, enclosing him into the hug.
“We’ll be alright. I promise you, we’ll figure something out.”
