The noise from the TV becomes a hum in the background as Porchay listens to the rain while Kim languidly strums his guitar on the other side of the couch. It amazes Porchay how even rain has a good and a bad side to it.
For some, rain is comfort, for others rain is sadness. Farmer's associate rain with happiness for it brings good crops, while builders associate it with anger for the delay it causes. For some students, rain is an annoyance, for having to home wet and soaked.
When Porchay was a student himself, he used to hate the rain too. But when he met Kim, the rain started looking beautiful. It became a comfort. For, downpour meant, cuddles with Kim that the latter could not refuse. But after the breakup, the rain started looking dull, it's meaning fading with the mist.
Now that they are back together, the rain was something more meaningful. It was no longer just comfort. For it brought both good and bad. Rain wasn’t just a pitter-patter of water droplets. For it was powerful when it wanted to be. It bought, thunder and lightning as well.
If Porchay was the rain, soothing and calming, Kim was the thunder and lightning, hot and dangerous.
Porchay usually lay in bed warmed up when it rained. Today, however, he wanted to do something. He thought about taking Kim out for a dance, but then remembered that they recently recovered from covid.
“Kim,” Porchay’s soft voice pulls the man’s attention as the chords stop playing and beautiful brown eyes soften as they land on Porchay. “I’m cold.”
Kim gently sets the guitar down and reaches toward the little bunny wrapped up in hoards of blankets to keep him warm beside him. Gentle fingers stroke his knee causing Porchay to jerk, from the ticklish feeling. “What do you want to do, angel.”
Porchay shuffles a little so he can watch Kim better, “Let’s watch a movie and cuddle.” Kim, the whipped man that he is, agrees readily and moves to lay with his bunny. “Wait, no. I want to eat ice cream too!”
Kim looks at him for a second before he sighs, “Porchay, you said you were cold. Ice cream will make you sick, baby.” Porchay pouts at the scolding tone. “But Kim, I’ll have you to keep me warm.” Kim’s ears turn red at that as he hides a smile. He should be scolding Porchay. But his bunny was too cute.
“Okay fine, only if you promise to have something warm after.” Kim gives in, he always does. What can you say, he’s a whipped man. Kim gets up to go get them the ice cream that they bought last night and made them some honeyed tea for later, while Porchay skims through Netflix for a perfect rom-com movie.
Kim comes back with two bowls of ice cream. He sets them on the coffee table and goes back to get the tea. When they set everything up, they cuddle under the blankets and eat their ice creams.
Halfway through the movie, Porchay reaches for the tea after having finished his ice cream but Kim is closer to the table so he gets it for Chay after setting his bowl down. “Drink it, the temperature is mild by now.” Chay gives him a grateful smile with a brush of his lips against Kim’s jaw and drinks the tea.
When they finish the movie, it’s already nighttime. The rain is ongoing, now joined by soft rumbling thunder. Kim and Porchay are warm and neither is ready to move. “Are you hungry?” Porchay hums as he looks up at Kim who is looking down at him with the softest look in his eyes. He is going to melt.
“Not really, but I do need to eat something.” Kim nods but doesn’t move. They are both too warm and soft to break the little bubble that they have managed to build around them. They stay like that for a while before Kim shuffles to get up. “Let’s get you dinner.” He brushes a kiss against Porchay’s forehead before he walks to the kitchen to get them both dinner.
After dinner, the two cuddle up on their bed, not bothering to wash up on a cold night, content to be snuggled up in each other's warmth. Porchay asks Kim to sing him something and falls asleep to the soft humming of his boyfriend that sounded heavenly accompanied by the pitter-patter of droplets outside.
The rain has two sides. The good one, the bad one. Porchay didn’t care about either of them, as long as it meant, he would get to cuddle up in Kim’s arms at the end of the day.
