Chapter Text
Marty we really should take you to the hospital." Danny said, running a hand over the teens forehead.
It was cold outside, but Marty was burning up. The chief took Marty's quiet stare as a yes.
"Can you walk, or do you need our help?" Danny asked, still getting no response from the teen.
Marty just stared looking at the spot where the evil version of Doc used to lay.
"Marty just stay here for a moment" Clara had whispered as she then rose, and made her way toward 'Doc,' and Jennifer.
Marty watched Clara walk over to 'Doc' trying to figure out if he was dreaming. What was Clara doing here?
"Clara I told you to stay in the truck, what are you doing!" Doc shouted towards his wife.
"Emmett we all know you have already lost, I am doing what I must to protect myself, and my children." Clara responded back, not taking her eyes off 'Doc'
Okay now Marty knew he was dreaming, or hallucinating. No way Clara would say something like that.
"Let Jennifer go, you know she won't abandon Marty. You have already won." Clara said, stepping right infront of 'Doc'
"Throw your gun in this direction, and I will release her." 'Doc' shouted towards Danny,.
Marty jumped a little as the gun landed with a gentle thud about 5 feet to his right. Danny could of been a pitcher for the Giants. Why was this guy in law enforcement?
Before 'Doc' could even make a move himself Clara suddenly moved forward wrapping her arms around the man who so strongly resembled her husband, and moved in for a deep, passionate kiss.
Yep, Marty was definitely hallucinating. He was never drinking vodka again. This dream was way too weird. The teen reached over, and grabbed the gun. Suddenly he realized the weapon felt far too real.
Marry struggled to stand. The cold air hitting him in the face making him even more aware that he was infact not dreaming.
Suddenly 'Doc' had grabbed Clara and shoved her. As she tripped and fell, the woman went over the side of the ravine screaming.
Marty knew he had to move quick. In the dark he could see a hand trying to claw its way back up onto the ledge of Clayton Ravine, no wait it was Easwood Ravine now.
"No!" Doc had screamed in obvious terror. It was the real Doc. It was Marty's Doc. The man that would change time for the people he loved.
BAM!
Marty hadn't even been aware he had fired the gun, but he knew he had hit what he was aiming for as 'Doc' fell forward.
What had he done? Why did he do that? Was he supposed to do that?
Suddenly Doc was infront of him, but which Doc was he? Was he the Doc that had allowed him to sleep in his garage on the nights he couldn't bare being at home before his whole life changed?
No it wasn't that Doc. That Doc was dead. Marty would definitely never see that Doc again. There was no need to even think about that Doc anymore.
Was it the Evil Doc? The one who had taken him prisoner, and tortured him, but claimed he only wanted to help him?
"Give me the gun Marty, your okay now, your safe." Doc whispered as he made a move to take the gun.
Doc was startled when instead Marty suddenly aimed the gun at him.
Marty just needed more time to think. He needed to know which Doc was this. Was this Doc a ghost, an enemy, or was this the Doc he had known since he was a baby? The old family friend that had been like a favorite uncle, and then became his best friend.
"Marty, please just give me the gun son. No one else has to die tonight. You did what you had to do, but it's over now." Danny had said softly, reaching a hand out slowly.
Marty slowly lowered the gun then placed it in Danny's outreached hand. Doc was shocked again when Marty threw his arms around his neck, and started sobbing.
"Shhhhh, it's okay Marty, your safe now. You saved yourself, you saved us all." Doc said in a soothing voice, his own tears falling now.
"I'm so sorry Doc, this is all my fault. If I wasn't so stupid none of this would of even happened." Marty said through his tears.
"No, Marty, no, you are far from stupid, and none of this was your fault. You didn't deserve for any of this to happen." Doc said soothingly, gently rubbing his friends back.
"Jennifer take Paul's truck, and drive Marty to the hospital. Tell them he showed up at our house this way." Danny had quickly orderd his daughter as he stepped forward to help Marty get off the ground.
As Danny reached down to offer Marty a hand up the teen had started to panic, making it clear he did not want Danny to touch him.
"No I don't want to go! If I go to the hospital they will never let me leave. They won't help me, they will know I am crazy!" Marty said, as he clung tighter to Jennifer.
Doc knew that was one of the warnings the evil version of himself had told Marty to keep him from seeking help.
"Marty none of that is true. He lied to you so he could keep controlling you. You need to go get checked out. You likely have an infection, and you haven't had much to eat, or drink the last several days. You are going to need antibiotics, the ones that you have already been given alone are not going to clear the infection with your immune system weakend like it is" Doc had said softly, as Marty had looked up at him.
"How do you know all that?" Danny asked confused.
Doc ignored the question for the moment focusing on Marty instead. The scientist wasn't sure if it was a good idea, but he offered his hands out to Marty anyway.
After a moment Marty took Doc's hands, and allowed his friend to pull him off the ground. A dizzy spell suddenly hit Marty as Doc moved quickly to catch him.
Doc knew Marty should of been seen at a hospital after he had hit his head after the first time he was knocked unconscious with the sleep inducer. Doc also knew that his otherself had known that too.
The scientist suspected the infection had likely started with that open head wound. Marty most likely had needed some staples, and antibiotics then, and that had been six days ago.
As Doc carefully picked up Marty, and cradled the smaller man, he felt a strange sense of both anger, and guilt. Anger because someone had done so much damage to his young friend, and guilt because in a way that someone had been Doc himself, even if it was a very different version of him.
Doc felt surprised when Marty did not resist being picked up, and even rested his head againt the older mans shoulder. Marty hadn't even wanted Danny to touch him, yet the teen was allowing Doc to cradle, and carry him. The scientist was glad his friend still trusted him, yet he no longer felt deserving of that trust.
Doc knew this was the level of trust, and loyalty the other version of himself had expected out of Marty. That version of himself was so insane though he had actually thought he could torture, and manipulate Marty into being loyal to only him.
Clara had rushed ahead of her husband to open the passenger door of the truck. Doc carefully placed Marty in the passenger seat, and then tried to encourage his friend to let go of him.
"Why can't you come too?" Marty had asked, still not wanting to unwrap his arms from around Doc, his eyes heavy as he fought to stay awake. It was Danny who answered his question.
"We would never be able to come up with a believable explanation as to why Doc was at my house. It would be best to just stick with the story that you came over to our house, and Jennifer convinced you to go to the hospital."
"But they are still going to think I'm crazy. I am crazy! They will be able to tell, and I'm never going to be allowed to leave!" Marty had said, nearly shouting despite his overwhelming exhaustion.
"Marty your not crazy! I wish you had told me you remembered your old timeline, and your new timeline, and that you were struggling with the differences. That other version of me corced you into giving him that information, and used that knowledge to get in your head!" Doc had said feeling frustrated that his friend hadn't reached out to him.
Doc immediately regretted his harsh tone as Marty started to break down, and cry. The kid had spent nearly a week with a version of himself that had talked down, and screamed at him. Of course Marty was not going to react well to hearing criticism from him right now.
Doc gently reached out to comfort Marty, as he laid a hand on his friends shoulder, the teen reacted defensively.
"Stop touching me! I just want people to stop touching me when I don't want to be touched!" Marty suddenly yelled, nearly hyperventilating in his panic.
Doc quickly withdrew his hand his sense of guilt growing. As if it wasn't bad enough that the evil version of him had physically tortured Marty, he also was well aware how the sick, and twisted monster had then forced the teen to accept his comfort.
The other version of himself had multiple times touched Marty when he had made it clear he did not want the touch, and could do absolutely nothing to stop, or get away from the unwanted contact. To any good, and reasonable person that alone should be considerd assault.
Had Marty not returned the kiss that was forced upon him, he would of no doubt been punished. Just because Marty had reciprocated the kiss did not mean it wasn't assault. By that point Marty had been kept captive for over three days. He had spent much of his time restrained with no possible way to escape on his own, and then had been shocked, slapped, choked, interrogated, and put through cruel psychological torture. Now Marty was convinced that he himself was insane.
Marty had done what he had needed to do to survive. Doc was proud of his friend for that. Marty had proved just how strong, and smart he truly was by firing that gun. He really had saved them all. Not for the first time the scientist owed his life to the teen. Now he knew he would have to be strong so he could return that favor.
Danny was still confused as hell about everything, but he did not believe Marty was crazy. The poor kid was traumatized, and no doubt needed some kind of counseling, but Danny also knew Marty could not tell anyone he had been abducted by some insane version of Emmett Brown from some nightmare world.
"Marty, listen to me carefully, Doc is right about you needing to go to the hospital. A doctor can request a 72 hour hold, but legally they can't make you stay any longer than that without a court order. Do not agree to sign anything until you are more clear headed, and if you still do not understand what it is you are supposed to be signing, just don't sign it until it is fully explained to you. If you still are not sure what it is you are signing, just, don't sign it! Do not agree to let anyone make decisions for you, not even your parents." Danny had said all this slowly, and carefully hoping Marty had understood it all.
It was now Danny's turn to feel guilty. Never in all his years in law enforcement had he ever coached an abuse victim into not getting help they so obviously needed, but he also knew if Marty agreed to a mental evaluation, and revealed anything that had happened on this night alone a well meaning doctor could possibly make Marty's situation worse.
"But I am crazy! They are going to figure it out. I can't hide how crazy I really am!" Marty had said, at this point wailing.
"Marty, son, just don't threaten to hurt yourself, or anyone else okay? Trust me on this. Stick with the I don't know, I don't remember story you originally gave me. The Emergency Department is going to be more worried about your physical health at first. Just take everything one step at a time. We are going to help you, but first you have to get to the hospital okay?" Danny said calmly, choosing to 'dumb down' his instructions.
"They really can't make me talk to them, or make me stay longer?" Marty asked Danny as he wiped away his own tears. At this point Jennifer had climbed up into the drivers seat of the truck, and was now holding his hand.
"No, they absolutely cannot, and they are only going to want to help you Marty. Even if you do slip, and accidentally say something that doesn't make sense to them, they are going to take one look at you, and know you had been held against your will. They will most likely write off anything you say as part of your trauma. Just try not to say too much though. You not wanting to be there would be considerd normal. After they treat you they will most likely release you to go home with your parents, and recommend you seek outpatient counseling." Danny was hoping atleast some of what he was saying was getting through to the kid.
"But what if I am dangerous? I just killed somebody!" Marty said, panicked.
"That was self defense Marty, but yeah don't tell them that." Jennifer said, as she continued rubbing Marty's hand, glad that he was atleast allowing her to give him that small comfort.
"What about my parents? They already know how crazy I am. They really must hate me now. Why would they even want to take me home instead of having me committed?" Marty had mumbled, he was starting to have to fight to stay awake.
"Trust me Marty, no matter what you said to your parents they love you." Danny said, again keeping his voice soft.
Danny wasn't even sure if Marty had heard him. He looked up to Jennifer noticing a distant look to her eyes too. What in the hell had the sick basterd put his daughter through?
Danny shook his head remembering his own advice to Marty about taking everything one step at a time. He pulled a piece of paper out of his pocket with a phone number written on it.
"Jenny, call Paul when you get the chance. Tell him to come get us, and I will have him drop me off at the hospital. When I get there I'll call Marty's parents. I'm sorry sweety, but you won't be able to stay with Marty."
"What do you mean I won't be able to stay with him?" Jennifer tried not to shout.
"I'm sorry sweetheart, but we are the only people who even somewhat understand what Marty has been through. I am going to need to make this whole thing look like a random abduction. The McFly's, and everyone else are going to be suspicious if I don't take an abundance of caution around the security at the hospital." Danny said apologetically.
Jennifer only nodded her head. She understood what her father was doing, but she still didn't like it. As she started up the truck Danny closed the passenger door, and stepped back as Jennifer spun the truck back onto Old Carson Spur Road, and took off.
Danny cringed as he watched Jennifer speed off. He made a mental note to talk to Paul later to find out if his truck was going to need to be put in the shop after the rough handling the vehicle had been put through. Doc must of been having similar thoughts.
"I might need to take a look at that truck after things calm down. It might need some transmission work" Doc had said, cringing himself.
Danny just shook his head he couldn't help, but laugh at the insanity of everything that had happened. Quickly his thoughts turned to even more troubling matters than the condition of the tricked out pickup.
"Emmett how in the hell do you know so much about what happened to Marty?" Danny asked, resisting the urge to pull his gun out. It didn't seem to the police chief that the scientist was acting out of his usual character, but the details Doc seemed to have disturbed Danny.
Danny noticed Clara looked pale, and had not said a word ever since the events occurred by the ravine. No one was escaping without trauma from this night. He was not going to further traumatize the woman by pulling a gun on her husband when Emmett showed no signs of being a danger.
"The merge was not completed thankfully, but Marty likely stopped it right before it would have been completed." Doc said, a shiver running down his spine. Why did they always cut these things so close?
"Are you sure about that? Are you absolutely sure because if you have his memories then how can you be sure he isn't in there with you?" Danny asked, trying not to sound like he was accusing the other man, but still not understanding much about anything that was going on.
"I know who I am Chief. I am repulsed by what that monster has done to Marty, and what he had planned for us all. I know you have no reason to trust me, but I can assure you I am the only Emmett Brown inhabitting my body." Doc said calmly, hoping like hell he was not being tricked himself.
Danny still looked suspicious, but he hadn't pulled his gun out so Doc assumed for not the first time in the last several hours, that was a good sign. The scientist stepped away with a sigh, needing a moment to process everything himself.
As Doc walked away Danny slowly approached Clara, pulling a card from his pocket that had his private number at the station, and his home number on it.
"Clara If for any reason at all you feel like you need me, please do not hesitate to call." Danny had whispered as he placed the card in the woman's hand.
Clara had tears in her eye's, but quickly put the card in the pocket of the jeans she was wearing, not saying a word. She wanted to believe her husband when he said he was the only Emmett Brown, but she had noticed the look of concern on his own face when he had been talking to the chief.
Clara wasn't sure if she had been the only one who had realized the evil version of her husband was already fading before she had even stabbed him. Had perhaps Marty noticed too, and that is what motivated the teen to go ahead, and shoot him? Or was Marty truly motivated by the extreme risk herself, and really all of them had been in.
If the teen had noticed the fading effect it hadn't stopped Marty from putting his trust into Emmett, but what had the evil version of her husband put Marty through? What had been been his plan, and had he been stopped?
At this moment Clara wasn't sure, and it was clear to her, that her husband wasn't all that convinced himself.
