Work Text:

rex lapis, the god of contracts and now the archon of liyue. a ruthless warrior; with a chiseled body that one could only think was carved from the sturdiness of stone, with a gaze resembling the precious cor lapis that could only be found in his land. the prime adeptus; capable of protecting his people and those of his allies, and able to skillfully lead others into battle with proper leadership.

though the land was barren, and chaos had been spread far and wide across not only liyue, but teyvat, the geo archon guided his people as they settled into the wharf by the sea of clouds, which would become an immensely known port and trade center over time. an overseer of not only the people, but their law, currency and trade, the architecture and even their crops.

even if his will was like that of stone, it most certainly did not mean he would never feel tiredness creep on him like moss. and whenever such a thing happened, he'd learnt long ago what he had to do. and so, the creator of mora constantly found himself in your domain, basking in the soft warmth of the dying sun and the fragrance of your favorite oils and the fruit mortals would gift you.

the smile you'd give him could melt the iciest of glaciers, break through stone itself, or dim the sun's glow. did it truly, or was that just the fondness and longing his heart harbored for you? "ah, it is you, rex lapis. i am glad you have decided to stay a while," your tender voice would sound finer than a bard's melody, even if unaccompanied by the strings of the most exquisitely carved lyre.

"allow me to serve you some osmanthus wine," you offered aloud, lips ghosting over his neck, your breath fanning over the most sensitive part of it. his arms tightened around your torso, pressing himself flush to your chest. brown locks flowed in the air around your embrace with a gust of breeze, the golden tips catching on the golden shimmer of the setting sun.

"that would certainly be a pleasure to have," his baritone voice joined the chirping of birds, edges of his lips drawn upwards as he allowed himself to relax within your arms. your scent brought him utmost calm; and your warmth, though little as you were also an immortal, made him feel like he could be himself, with no restraints.

you hummed in delight, "how long has it been? two days, or twenty, perhaps two years or maybe ten? my dear archon, it is about time you rest."

rex lapis sighed, golden eyes shutting as he rested his chin on your shoulder. "i myself cannot tell either. still, there is too much to fix yet; the war has caused plenty damage all throughout the land. i fret even the conqueror of demons is facing far too much of a load." even if you had to move away from him to fetch him some wine, he didn't - no, he could not - let you go. the idea of the smooth drink quenching his palate was appealing, of course, but no more than the soft caress of your fingers on his shoulders or your cheek nuzzled against his.

"i understand your concern, but is it not good for you take a break? had you not mentioned to me i was to be your lover? how can one be so when you spare no time to meet," you said half-heartedly, a lopsided smile on your face as you stared into endless pools of gold.

"you have opened my eyes yet again, my precious" he admitted in an exhale, gaze downcast. "i shall do as you say then, even if it is just for the briefest period one can keep track of." your grin widened, which made him mirror it with one of his own unconsciously. "this is excellent. rex lapis, you are most certainly unaware of how much i have missed you." your words were sweeter than honey, smoother than the silk of the finest of robes. your voice was loving, caring, and anything he could ever wish for.

"i apologize," his lips grazed yours, foreheads pressed together. "worry no more, i shall heed your advice now. i am yours, and you are mine. the people will have me when you dictate. oh, and i too, have sorely missed you."

sweet laughter bubbled from your lips, eyes crinkling as you crooned in joy. unable to resist no more, he pressed his lips against yours, as if to seal his promise. when he met your eyes again, he let himself get lost in the swirls of color, which glinted from the sun's last moments. they said everything to an extent words could never fully express, they could calm the turbulent sea of his thoughts.

osmanthus wine long forgotten now, the geo archon decided to intoxicate himself on the sugary taste of your lips, the delicate graze of your fingertips, your dulcet hum lulling him to the brink of consciousness. at last, he was truly home. home was with you, because home to him was never a place; but within your loving embrace.
