Work Text:
When Sam and Dean told Jesse everything - everything being a relatively superlative term, he later realized, with more experience under his belt and an actual (somewhat) understanding of how adults worked - he only wanted to go. He was changing the world around him, destroying things, hurting people. He was the antichrist.
It was horrible.
So he wished and wished with all his heart to go away. After leaving a note to tell Sam and Dean about it, of course. And fixing everything he’d made go wrong.
The important bit was, he wished.
And he was gone.
He arrived in another universe, and he only knew it was another universe because, well, he knew. There was a strange tingling in his hands and a rough taste in his mouth that just didn’t feel right. He hadn’t meant to come here, to leave the world entirely (to be honest, his plan had been to go somewhere in the world where the demons wouldn’t find him, where he couldn’t hurt anyone, and where, maybe, he could be the kid he was - but that was a long gone dream, wasn’t it? Even if he was only barely a teenager, he couldn’t be a kid anymore. Not with the powers he held. Not with him being the antichrist).
But he had.
And, once he thought about it, he realized he really couldn’t go back home anyway. What was waiting there for him? Sure, he had a Mom and a Dad, but they were probably better off without him anyway, safe and sound. And maybe they’d finally start spending time together again, at home.
At home, where he no longer was.
He swallowed.
At least I won't be jumpstarting the apocalypse, he tried convincing himself. At least Sam and Dean will be safe.
They had to be.
So, Jesse decided, this was definitely the world he was going to live in for now, because his old world didn’t need him. It needed the opposite of him. Which, coincidentally, would be Christ, but Jesse was hoping Sam and Dean had an alternative to that.
In any case, with that thought, he started living in this strange new universe with its strange new people and angels and demons.
Ugh, did every universe have to have angels and demons?
Then again, at least these ones didn’t possess people without their consent because they apparently had (and preferred) their own corporeal bodies. Jesse managed to viciously destroy every single one he came across.
Well, no. He didn’t viciously destroy them. They died too quickly for it to be vicious. But they obviously sensed something from him, so smiting them had the added purpose of keeping the attention off of himself, mostly because no one lived to tell the tale.
Sadly enough, keeping attention off of oneself also required a school age child to go to school, which was what Jesse had to do for the next three years of his life.
Okay, real honesty here - he had actually wanted to go to school. He had no one to talk to, no one to befriend. And sure, school didn’t really give him the meaningful relationships he was aiming for, but it did convince him he wanted to travel the world. So he accelerated through high school at sixteen because why not? He needed a high school diploma at least if he wanted to make a life later - though, granted, he could just wish one up, but that left a strange feeling in his chest and brought Sam’s disappointed mind to his face, even though it was blurred and out of focus now because he really didn’t remember the brothers too much - and then, he started traveling the world.
He started with exotic places, like India and Australia and Pakistan, moved up to China and Russia, then down all the way to Antarctica where he definitely befriended a penguin. He traveled and traveled for half a year, and at that point, found himself in England.
Good old England.
Good old England, which was currently in the process of being ripped apart because of a certain entity which Jesse paled to feel because it felt like him. It felt like the antichrist.
He ran.
Adam Young was an only child, so when he’d befriended Pepper and Wensley and Brian, it had all been an incredible experience. He’d been eager to please and had seamlessly fallen into the role of impromptu leader despite the niggling idea he could be more than just the leader of some paltry group of tiny humans.
And god, they had been brilliant! They were brilliant.
Adam made sure of that and Pepper and Brian and Wensley soaked up the attention like a sponge.
Adam just wanted them to have the perfect world. A perfect world where he could have everything he wanted and where his friends could have everything they wanted and he was giving it to them why wouldn’t they accept it- they could rule the continents, the worlds why-
He tilted his head, hesitated a second before he roared for his friends to come to him (because surely they’d be able to convince Brian and Pepper and Wensley, right?), because he could feel a second presence closing in faster than the speed of light, something so similar, something that felt like… a brother?
There was a sudden burst of lightning and the ground in front of Adam exploded, sending clouds of dust everywhere, throwing Adam to the ground and knocking away the whispers and the storms and leaving behind, well, Adam.
It’s a curious thing, the connection of two worlds. The point where they meet, there’s an explosion. Sometimes a physical one which eradicates all existence in the two universes, and most times a metaphorical explosion that centers on the converging point and leaves everything else untouched.
For the world number 666 times however many sixes one chose to add (depending, of course, on the broad categories defined by various universe-organizing committees made in various other universes), the convergence was a place and time when everything stood still and Adam Young met Jesse Turner.
Two children, adopted, even if one wasn’t exactly aware of that having come to be (yet).
Two children, both the antichrist.
Two children, both part human, and that, I’m afraid, is the turning point, though far be it to me to pun.
Jesse straightened, dusted off his clothes, and looked up, looked straight at the dumbfounded faces, the very much devoid-of-their-mouths faces of Wensley, Brian, and Pepper, all a few years younger than him. He frowned. “That’s not very nice, is it?” He asked and snapped his fingers and their mouths were free, as were their feet.
But they didn’t say anything, just stared.
“Who are you?” Adam asked from behind Jesse, then rushed to stand in front of his friends, which in itself was pretty ironic considering he had been the one to steal their freedom of movement and speech. “What did you do?!”
Jesse blinked. “Oh,” He said. “You’re the guy.”
Adam blinked and his arms fell. “Excuse me?” He asked.
By this point, though, the other three had recovered and were inching away from Adam, which he totally noticed after a few seconds. He sent a worried look their way, right alongside the apologetic one. “I’m sorry,” He whispered, just for them. “I don’t- I don’t know what got into me.”
Pepper stopped, seemed to think it over, then turned to look at Wensley and Brian.
They seemed to think about it too, but then nodded to Pepper, who crossed her arms and glared at Adam. “We’ll listen,” She said grudgingly. “Though I suggest you handle that person first.”
Adam nodded.
Jesse shrugged. “Anyway,” He began loudly. “My name is Jesse Turner.” He waited a beat. “I’m from another world.”
Wensley dropped to the ground on his knees and gaped. “ Other worlds?” He squeaked in perfect reverence.
Brian snickered.
“Well, what are you doing here, Jesse?” Adam asked. “And why did you-” He halted. “How did you snap me out of it? I was…”
“Almost too far gone,” Jesse finished for him. “I could feel it. In my world, I’m the antichrist. Sort of.”
“‘Antichrist’?” Pepper said, voice disbelieving. “There’s no such thing.”
“Actually, yes, my Mum says there is,” Wensley corrected. “Though it’s supposed to be at the end of the world, and that isn’t coming for years and years.”
No one tended to give enough credit to Brian, but it ended up being him who got the real crux of the matter. “You’re the antichrist?” He asked, staring at Adam, aghast.
Pepper gasped. “That’s why you had the powers!” She shouted.
“Wait, are you ending the world? I actually don’t want the world to end.” Wensley protested.
Adam flinched and turned to Dog, who was staring at him with wide, soulful eyes that no longer burned. “I…”
“Well, that’s more an accident of the birth,” Jesse pointed out. “Demon parent, non demon upbringing. I think it’s a universal constant, but who am I to argue? Nature vs. nurture and all that.” The three kids stared at him in confusion. “Right,” He said. “Learn in school.” He cleared his throat. “As I was saying, I’m Jesse Turner. I felt you almost losing yourself, so I figured I’d pop over and stop you from making the worst mistake of your life. Because trust me, using these powers to make things come true might seem like a good idea but it’s really not. Hurting people isn’t a good idea.” He tilted his head towards Adam’s friends. “You only ever end up hurting the people you love, and then what’ll you do?”
Adam’s eyes widened and he spun around to look at his friends, who automatically nodded the same moment they realized what Jesse was saying. “Oh,” He breathed. “I don't want that.”
“Did you lose your friends?” Brian asked, making Pepper glare at him for tact, then returned to stare at Jesse, looking for an answer.
Jesse huffed. “Not really,” He replied. “I didn’t have any friends. I did make two… then I realized my powers were messing up the world and I…” He trailed off. “Jumped to this world.”
“Wait, I can travel to other universes too?” Adam asked eagerly. “That’s wicked! I wonder if there are universes where whales aren’t hunted and nuclear power stations don’t exist and- and-” He drooped. “Those problems are still here,” He mumbled, eyes fogging up. “This world isn’t good.”
Jesse’s ears strained and the wind picked up and if he narrowed his eyes and forced his powers to listen, he could barely make out whispers; “End it all… you don’t need them… end it all…”
His eyes flared.
But, it turned out, he didn’t even need to say anything because Pepper put her hands on her hips and glared. “Just because adults have messed up the world doesn’t mean you have to destroy it,” She said derisively.
“Yeah,” Brian tacked on. “It just means we’ve got to fix it.”
“Actually, we can make the world better,” Wensley agreed. “We’ll be adults soon, too.”
Adam stilled, the winds died down, and the whispers disappeared.
Jesse almost beamed.
But, apparently, it still wasn’t over. “They’re coming, though,” Adam said in a low voice, face slowly whitening. “My friends.”
“Your… friends?” Jesse asked.
“His evil friends,” Pepper said matter-of-factly.
Adam nodded. “We have to stop them,” He informed them tartly. “They’ll be at the air base.”
“Wait a minute-” Jesse protested, racking his mind through antichrist lore- He paled. The four horsemen?
“We can’t,” Adam informed him. “I started this. I must help end it, too.”
Jesse opened his mouth, closed it, and then sighed, wondering how his life had come to this. And to think! He’d imagined a world where he wouldn’t be dragged into the antichrist jumpstarted angel demon war. “Oh, fine,” He said grumpily. “I’ll come help.”
Adam beamed. “You know,” He told him, as they began walking. “I’ve always wanted a sibling. Since you’re an alternate version of the antichrist, I think you’ll do, don’t you?”
Jesse snorted. “Sure, Adam,” He replied. “Why not?”
‘Oh ye of little faith. There is Truth and then there is Change. Be glad ye receiv’d the latter, Anathema, for the end that was nigh is nigh no more.’
