Friends with Benefits: a friend with whom one has an occasional and casual sexual relationship.
Jake was half focusing on the quiet breaths from the bed behind him as he pulled on the rust colored button up. The mirror in front of him is just barely catching the sight of Bob’s hair across a pillow. The whole thing started quietly in the dark nights, calls for a good time to each other, a mutual knowledge of casual sex. Neither of them thought much of it together, other than knowing they would get a good fuck and move on their ways. They weren’t supposed to have underlying feelings, they weren’t supposed to be known by anyone else. Yet, most of their close friends knew about their secret beneficial relationship. It wasn’t hard to connect the dots when the two of them entered a bathroom minutes after the other and returned with messed up hair and flushed cheeks.
Now, here was Jake knowing he was putting on Bob’s shirt just to meet with him at the friend group night out. This wasn’t the first time they were at Bob’s house for a quick fuck, but it was the first time Jake slept in Bob’s bed. He hadn’t meant to really, but curled up against the warmth of Bob lulled him into a short nap. Jake quietly fussed with his hair, styling it with the one product Bob kept on the dresser.
A quiet grumble from behind him, “That’s mine you know.”
“What’re you gonna do about it?”
“Nothing.” A pause.
Jake didn't say anything as he watched Bob stand up and walk towards him in the mirror. The sweatpants he had thrown on hastily before dozing off sat low on his hips.
“Besides, it just lets me see that pretty throat and chest of yours.” A quick kiss to Jake’s cheek and Bob was moving away from him. Jake was following Bob’s movements in the mirror watching as he changed into his jeans, buckle sliding into places gracefully. Bob was looking for something, eyes tracing the room with precision as Jake pretended to be busy with his hair. When Bob spun Jake around to face him, the similarly colored shirt surprised him.
“You’re gonna wear mine? That's your whole plan? Cheap shot if you ask me.” Jake was all bark, under his own skin his chest was full and his heart was skipping a beat or four seeing Bob so easily put the shirt that was a size or so bigger than what he would normally wear. Fuck, it looked good too.
“Is that not allowed? Seeing as you’ve got mine I only see it as fair. Your hair looks good by the way.” A quiet reassurance to one of Jake’s forever worries. Jake couldn't help the quick flush on his cheeks as he ducked away to put on his shoes. They were supposed to meet their friends twenty minutes ago and Jake could only hold off Javy for so long before the man would come knocking down his door.
“I’ll see you there, okay?” Jake pressed a quiet kiss to Bob’s cheek, then the extra exposed skin from where his shirt had slipped away from his neck.
“Yeah, right behind you.”
-----------------------
There was a new bar that Javy had suggested the group visit this week and it was a far more casual hole in the wall than the Hard Deck. Low comfortable chairs, pool tables, cheap drinks, the works. Javy enjoyed the calmness of the room and felt like he could relax much more here than their usual bar. Natasha, Mickey, and Reuben had claimed a pool table by the time Jake arrived.
Waltzing through the front doors with ease, even in a new space. Bob’s shirt tight around his chest, an extra button undone to relax it a bit. His shoulders were straight and his eyes saw Javy giving that knowing look he would forever try to ignore.
Javy knew that Jake was seeing someone, he never pried for answers as long as Jake was being careful with his body and his heart. He knew that wasn’t Jake’s shirt, in fact he could have sworn he had seen Bob in something very similar a few weeks back. Javy tracks Jake as he walks towards the bar to order a drink, and tries to connect the dots that are laid out in front of him.
Jake met Javy’s almost disappointed face as he joined him in the low lounge chairs near the pool table. The shirt stretching open as Jake rested his arms on the sides of the chair.
“Don’t give me that look. I know you think you know what’s going on, but you don't. It’s nothing. Okay?” Jake took a long sip from his drink and pointedly ignored the raised eyebrow from his friend.
“So tell me why Bob is wearing your shirt then, Jake.” The slight chuckle was bemusing.
Jake was so focused on ignoring the pointed looks from Javy he hadn’t even noticed that Bob was here already. He didn’t mean to be so obvious as he swiveled his head around to see Bob catching his eye by the pool table. Bob’s got a sly smirk on his face, just hidden behind the glass of soda in his hands. Jake thinks he looks beautiful. It was a coincidence that they had worn similar colored shirts to their Friday afternoon encounter, and now Jake is going to hold out longer. He was going to stand his ground and not fall into whatever Bob was luring him towards.
“I don’t know what you’re trying to insinuate, but maybe he just has one like what I have.”
“Arguing won’t get you anywhere, I know what you two have going on. I just don’t want you to hurt yourself or fall back into your destructive habits. The falling for someone and putting up the wall between you and them. Jake, let yourself enjoy it. Don’t push him away, he’s good for you.”
Jake huffed but knew Javy meant every word for the best. The slow acceptance of the knowledge weighed on his chest as he sank back into the cushion of the chair.
Bob had really only been five minutes behind Jake but he arrived quietly, hugging the corners of the room before sliding in next to Mickey. The smile on his face as he watched Jake talking to Javy on the low chairs barely ten feet from him was noticed quickly by Javy. Bob watched as Javy worked out the shirt on his shoulders truly belonged to Jake, knowing that Javy knew. There was a slight moment of surprise that flashed across Javy’s face that settled into calm teasing between the two.
“Bob,” Mickey pushed his shoulder into Bob’s, “that uh, looks like your shirt on Jake. Isn’t it? Or am I imagining things?”
“I think you know the answer.” Bob hasn’t taken his eyes off of the side of Jake’s neck, one purple bruise peeking around the side of the shirt collar. A beat of pride thumping in his heart before turning away from watching Jake and Javy talk to focus on the close pool game between Rueben and Natasha. It takes half of his brain to not continuously watch Jake purposefully putting on a front to Javy while also giving a show to Bob across the room.
Jake was standing his ground, he felt Bob’s eyes watching him but there was no reason for him to look back. Jake had Bob’s attention and that’s all that mattered. Nevermind the fact that his heart was beating a little faster and his body was a light with the knowledge of what he could do to Bob. One deep breath and a quick look at Javy, Jake made his way past the pool table. Quickly brushing his hand across Bob’s lower back, smiling when the man held his breath for a moment. The bar wasn’t even crowded enough to be that close to one another, but it was all part of the showing off Jake loved.
A quiet chat with the bartender, two extra buttons undone on his chest, and Jake turned back towards Bob and Javy with two beers in hand. Jake can see Bob’s eyes following him in his peripheral, trancing the lines of his hips moving across the bar. The chair is soft again as he sits next to Javy, chest still wide as he faces Bob. A smirk across his face and legs spreading out in the chair as he hands the second bottle to Javy quietly. Jake can see the gears rolling through Bob’s head of how to approach this, and Jake is ready to stand his ground and put himself on display for the man that somehow, unknowingly, now owns his heart.
Bob can tell that Jake wants to play the game, here in front of everyone they know, and he isn’t afraid of that prospect. A quirk of his brow and a smile on his face, Bob grabs the pool cue gently in his hands. A slow stroke across the top, gentle eye contact across the room. The cue moves so smoothly under his palm while the other hand rolls up his sleeves to show off a bit more of the muscles he used to hold Jake to the bed just a few hours ago. Bob can see the effect it has on Jake, no matter how hard he’s trying to hide it.
Pool cue still in hand, Bob pulls Mickey closer with the arm around his shoulder to whisper into his ear some nonsense about what shots to take next. Bob’s gesturing to the table and certain shots that may help Mickey’s next attack. As his head tips forward so do his glasses and Jake’s head is flooded with memories of Bob above him that afternoon.
“Come on Jake, be good,” Bob had both of Jake's wrists in one of his hands holding them above his head and pressed into the white pillows just behind him. Jake is too mesmerized by the feeling of Bob pushing into him with the slowest pace and the way his glasses are tipped forward on his nose. Flushed skin pressed against each other and Jake’s hands flexing in Bob’s grip and-
“Jake,” and oh, is his chest flushed? Bob’s walking this way now. Jake doesn't know who said his name, if it was Javy or Bob or even someone else. He turns to Javy anyways with a signature grin to play off the fact he just had a flashback to his usual encounters with Bob outside of work.
Jake’s trying to focus on whatever Javy is telling him but all of his attention is on Bob who happens to be walking behind him entirely nonchalantly, seemingly headed towards the restrooms. But he knows that Bob is focused on him, even if he isn’t even sparing a glance in his direction. There’s a moment where Bob might laugh under his breath, seeing how frustrated Jake is getting even without truly giving him any attention.
Javy’s still talking about the Saints game, as Jake figured out looking at the television Javy had been watching. Jake is trying to ignore the knowledge of Bob being right behind him, watching Javy and the game instead. Then one hand lands on the back of his neck and Jake can see the brief change in demeanor on Javy’s face. Protection and a flash of worry across Javy’s face but Jake is careful now, putting on the face Javy doesn’t see through and can hide just exactly how turned on he is under Bob’s hands.
Warmth spreads from the hand on his neck down his spine, lighting up every single thought of leaving the bar right now to go home and fuck Bob into the mattress. Yet, Jake is focused on trying to keep conversation with Javy.
“When are you headed home for leave, Javy?” It’s Bob’s voice above Jake’s head, but it’s a question Jake had wanted to know the answer to as well. Jake missed Javy’s mom too sometimes, it came with being best friends for as long as they had. Both of their moms and respective families had taken the other in as one of their own. Jake had been forever grateful for the friendship and love that Javy had brought into his life. Now it was feeling tenfold as he sat in front of Javy with Bob’s hands wandering around his shoulders and inching towards the front of his chest.
Now, Javy is not dumb. He can see the effect that Bob is having on Jake right in front of his eyes. Though, Jake would bring it up with him when he was ready, and Javy would respect that.
“Couple days from now, I have a flight back to New Orleans on Tuesday for a few days. Which reminds me, Jake, do you think you can give me a lift to the airport? It’s a two pm flight and I would really appreciate it.”
Jake swallows sharply as he feels Bob leaning down behind him, “Course I will, make sure you tell your momma I miss her, right?”
“Absolutely, I’ll try and call you while I’m down there so you two can catch up about everything.” The pointed comment comes right as Bob kisses just below Jake’s ear and causes Jake’s breath to stop for a moment.
Jake sends a look at Javy who’s raising a brow specifically at Bob. There’s two hands ducking below Jake’s shirt, thumbs and palms rubbing against his chest with warmth and Jake can’t breathe. He’s too aware of Bob surrounding him with large, warm arms and he can’t focus on Javy’s sub contextual comments about whatever he and Bob have going on.
“Oh, I’m just fixing his dog tags, got a bit caught up in his shirt.” Bob’s voice is even, and far too calm for how much he’s messing with Jake’s head. Jake knows he's in for it as Bob’s finger’s have found the hickey just under his right pec and press into it just enough to have Jake gasping now. Fingers against his chest were paired with the tiniest nip at his earlobe.
Just as quick as Bob had walked up behind him, the hands are retreating, leaving his skin wanting more. One lingering finger drops off Jake’s shoulder before Jake is watching Bob’s hips walking away and back towards the pool table as if nothing had ever happened between them.
“Yeah, nothing going on. The fuck was that then? Jake, let yourself enjoy it, okay? You’ve been hiding away for too long.”
Jake’s hearing what Javy is telling him through the blood rushing in his ears. It’s true, Jake wants to fall for Bob, and it’s possible he already had, but they haven't actually talked about being anything more. His shoulders have slumped in the chair, accepting a moment of defeat in their game. Though, as Jake finds Bob again, hips cocked out a bit more than usual. It doesn't take long for their eyes to catch and exchange a genuine smile for a moment. Bob’s heart flutters and Jake’s hand rests over his own, right where Bob had pressed against him minutes ago.
It’s not that Bob had been hiding his affection for Jake, he just didn’t want to overwhelm him. Bob didn’t want to continue down this exploration much longer without confronting some of the feelings he had building for Jake. After tonight he would take Jake out for a proper date, something both of them would enjoy and try not to fall into bed immediately after arriving. Bob didn’t dwell too long before Mickey pulled his head back into the game in front of him.
Bob was still winning whatever game he had going with Jake, and he intended to keep that lead for the time being. It was exaggerated. He knew it was, but he also knew that arching his back that extra bit pushed his ass directly into Jake’s sightline. The gasp and half choked sound on beer had Bob smirking as he lined up his next attack point. Two balls left to sink before the eight. The cue was sharp in his hands, pure accuracy every time Bob stepped to the table. Only one ball sunk into the corner pocket, bringing grumblings from Natasha and Reuben across the table.
“Naval training and math fellas.” It’s a shock of arrogance from Bob’s mouth, all in good fun towards his friends.
Jake knows he has to step up and get back into the game if he is going to win against Bob. Sure he’s horny as hell, but that’s because Bob has been dangling himself in front of him for hours. It doesn’t help that Jake get’s turned on when Bob uses his brain, maybe it’s his competence kink acting up, whatever. Jake takes a deep breath before glaring at Javy next to him and walks towards where Bob is lining up his final shot.
“Hi Jake, doing alright there?” Bob’s voice is light, too light, teasing.
“Yeah, I’m good. Gotta get a good view here too, see how you’re gonna win.” Jake doesn’t mean to push his hips right behind Bob as he bends over the table again. There’s a quiet fuck passing Jake’s lips and he can feel Javy and Natasha’s eyes watching them. He tries not to mind it.
Bob’s hands are quick and sharp as they sink the eight into the side pocket, exactly how he had called it. There’s the distinct feel of Jake’s dick against his ass and Bob knows it’s time to leave, for both of them. Jake’s too horny to be here anymore and if they stay any longer they’ll end up in the bathroom again. As he straightens up, one of Jake’s hands is resting against his hip.
Javy had moved closer to talk with Bradley and Mickey, quiet conversations that really had none of their attention. Everyone was very aware of where Jake and Bob were moving in their space. They all supported the care that the two had for each other, wanting them to both enjoy and work through whatever type of relationship they were in. There may or may not be a bet about when the two would finally go on a real date and become a bit more than friends.
Bob has had enough of Jake’s teasing, and frankly so has Jake. His voice is nonchalant as he taps twice on Jake’s chest, “Alright, come on.” With that, Bob hands his pool cue off to Bradley and starts walking towards the door. He doesn’t get more than three steps before he realizes that Jake isn’t coming with him.
Jake is just staring at Bob, then to Javy and Bradley, and then back to Bob. There is no way he just said that. No. They actually hadn’t been this public with anything before and Jake’s head is running a bit too fast. His brain can’t exactly keep up as Bob steps forward again and grabs him by the collar. Then they’re kissing. Bob is kissing Jake, right there in the middle of the bar, no hesitation.
“Get in the car, darling.” Jake reached out a hand for Bob to pull him out with and everything was a blur for a moment before Bob had him pressed against the side of his truck with lips dragging across his neck.
“Bobby, hey,” Jake didn’t mean to sound hesitant, he wasn’t in the slightest, but he needed to say this. “Bobby,” he tried again, pulling on Bob’s hair to get his attention.
“Jake? You okay?”
Jake let himself take a deep breath, everything finally catching up to him. “Yeah, I’m alright. I don’t want this to just be sex anymore, I want it to be you, at least if you’ll have me.”
Bob’s face is calm, a small smile pulling at the corners of his mouth. “Oh,” a blush too. “I was gonna ask you out properly tomorrow, but now works I suppose.”
Jake lets himself laugh, chest full of life and surrounded by Bob. “That sounds perfect. Ask me again tomorrow. Right now, I want you to take me home and fuck me again, please?”
“Get in the car, darling.” Bob’s grin is bright, a prospect of a new day on the horizon.
--------------------------
Jake is pressed against the door as soon as it’s closed and Bob’s hands are running over his chest.
“Seeing you in my shirt all night, darling, teasing me with every bit you could. Smart, I’m sure you realized that two of us could play that game, huh?”
Jake can’t focus on what Bob is saying to him, not when his hand is rubbing his dick through his jeans. He can’t help shifting his hips to feel more of Bob’s hand over him. “Bobby.”
“Right here, darling. Tell me what you need.”
“Take me to bed.”
Bob laughs quietly before connecting his lips to Jake’s and wrapping his arms around the man’s torso. “As you wish.”
The stumbling is easy, Bob knows this route almost as well as the back of his hand. They’ve been here too many times to count, quick kisses and hurried fucks against every part of the hallway wall. Jake’s fingers dug against Bob’s scalp, hair captured between them. As they tumbled into the bed, Bob inbetween Jake’s hips, there wasn’t much flourish. There were enough days of texts and leaving the group nights early just for a good fuck. Maybe tomorrow, after Bob asked properly, he would lay Jake out and love him like he deserved. That was for tomorrow. Tonight was still hurried and rushed as lips clashed and clothes disappeared to their homes on the floor.
Bob loved watching Jake’s face as he fucked him nice and slow, teasing the man underneath him. The way Jake’s face would relax and his shoulders would sometimes tense from the anticipation. There was something to be said about how beautiful he looked under Bob. Legs hooked over Bob’s hips, fingers scratching at his scalp and shoulders, wanting anything to hold on to as he was brought higher and higher towards the bliss.
“Fuck, Bobby, please.” Three magic words to have Bob picking up the pace and ducking his head to kiss Jake on the lips once again. It didn’t take long for both of their breathing to turn to pants filled with moans and quiet begging. Bob kissing every part of Jake’s skin he could get his lips on and Jake just accepting everything Bob was giving him.
Even if they hadn’t talked yet, this felt different. This felt like two people and not just two bodies. There would be no more using each other for a quick orgasm. No more late night texts or calls. No more stares from their friends. This was new, and different, even if it was still them. There was a promise of tomorrow, of staying, of being there when the sun would rise.
Bob was draped as close as he could to Jake’s chest, pulling both of them through orgasm with kisses and strong touches, exactly how Jake enjoyed. Sure they would have to talk, but that was for tomorrow. For now, they could shower and lay in bed with no rush to get dressed or worry about the world.
