Chapter 1 - Chance
“This is the last one for today, Miss Kiramman.”, a security guard said, and Caitlyn sighed, she was tired: “Alright, bring them in.”
Caitlyn was a famous K-Pop star, ever since she was a child, her parents, especially her mother, pushed her into an early career. They did everything to get their daughter climbing up the career ladder, and now that she was 23, she was one of the most popular singers in South Korea.
Her mother was from the UK while her father was Korean, so she grew up between those two countries and was perfectly capable of both languages.
After an incident with her last personal bodyguard, she was searching for a new one and today were job interviews for the position at her side.
Caitlyn looked to the door where the last applicant entered. A woman? Interesting.
The applicants before were absolutely useless. Most of them were just fans who tried to get nearer to their idol, others were just not suited for the job.
“Welcome, I’m Myo – Well, Caitlyn, legally.”, Cait said with a light chuckle and reached her hand out to the applicant, who took and shook it.
“Hey. I’m Violet, nice to meet you.”, she said with a firm handshake and Caitlyn offered her a seat.
They sat down and Vi took a look around, she seemed nervous.
“Do you want something to drink?”, the singer asked and Vi rubbed the back of her neck: “Yeah, that’d be nice, thanks!”, she answered and Cait got her a glass of water with a smile on her face.
“Here you go. So, your job would be to guard me, obviously. You would join me on a daily base, keeping me company on events, make sure I am safe on concert locations and all that. And you have to keep me safe, especially from overly excited fans. Some of them are really… crazy, I hope you allow me to say that. Oh, and you would need to move in with me, but don’t worry. You’d have an own little apartment inside my villa. If you need a day off, that’s no problem of course, but please note, this is absolutely no 9-5 job.”, she explained to her and continued with a smile: “Tell me something about you, Violet, why are you applying for that job?”, she asked her and sat down across from her, crossing her legs and resting her hands on her thighs.
“Oh uhm, so… well, I am 22, I live with my little sister. Well, ‘little’, she’s also turned 18 a while ago.”, she started to tell her story and fiddled with her fingers.
Caitlyn noticed the nervous fiddling, but she could tell, Vi wasn’t a fan. She was just casually nervous because of the interview, she knew the difference.
“We lost our parents quite young, and since I became 18, I take care of her. So that’s why I need a job to be able to pay rent and all that for both of us. She’s going to university soon and as you maybe know, the fees are quite high. That’s why I am applying for this job.”, Vi continued and took a sip from her water, almost choking on it, but she saved herself again in the last second.
“I am very sorry to hear this about your parents, you’re a good person when you take so much care for your sister.”, Caitlyn said, her expression showed, Vi’s story really touched her.
“I mean, we pay well. So, this won’t be a problem, but what exactly qualifies you for the job as my personal bodyguard? I mean, do you have any experience? Certificates, graduated apprenticeships?”, she asked and Vi got a little more nervous. She couldn’t fuck this up, she really needs that job!
But honesty was always best, right?
“I-… uhm. To be honest, I-… dropped out of school to take care for my sister. But I already worked as a security, in-… well, in a mall. And a nightclub. I also do boxing tho, to keep me in form. And I also fought some competitions to earn some money, I never lose once until now.”, she sighed.
She knew, those weren’t quite the qualifications to guard a famous world star.
“Well, I mean… at least you got some experience in that field, right? Did you ever guard a person?”, Caitlyn asked and watched Vi take another sip of her water.
This time it didn’t went well, and Vi choked on the water, coughing and trying to get her breath back,
“Oh dear, are you okay…?”, Caitlyn asked worried and didn’t quite know what to do, but Vi seemed to get her breath back by her own, slowly, but steady.
“…”, the security guard in the back shook his head to Caitlyn, this girl wasn’t able to even guard her own lunchbox.
“Sorry, really, I-… I’m just nervous, job interviews are scary, haha…”, Vi said nervously, she coughed a last time and sat back up straight again.
“No, unfortunately I didn’t guard a person before. But I am very sure I can do that perfectly! So, uhm, I would really like to take this job, I promise, I’ll do my best guarding you.”, she said, well knowing she absolutely needed the money Caitlyn offered. It would solve so many problems for her, she could pay for Jinx’ university fee and the rent for an apartment near the campus for her.
Caitlyn sighed with an apologizing look on her face: “Violet, I am really sorry… I’m afraid I can’t give you the job. I hope you will find something suiting, soon.”
Cait could see how Vi’s heart dropped on that rejection, she herself had a good feeling about that girl… but she wasn’t the expert here.
“Oh. Oh… yeah, I understand. Sorry… but uhm, thank you nevertheless for your time.”, Vi sighed, sad and mad of herself that she fucked this chance up.
“Miss Kiramman? I’m back in a minute, is that okay?”, the security guard asked suddenly, and Caitlyn nodded: “Sure, I’m fine.”, she nodded and let the guy go off to the restrooms.
Vi was no threat, she could just feel it.
Both got up and Vi held her hand out to Caitlyn: “Okay uhm, I will just go then. I hope you find someone who can prot-…”, Vi started and suddenly, she dragged Caitlyn closer and aside.
Her aura changed suddenly, from the clumsy, nervous mess to a very professional and strong one.
“MYO!!”, a man screamed, running at the popstar, “I LOVE YOU!! WHY DIDN’T YOU MESSAGE ME BACK?!”, he continued, but before he could reach her, Vi reacted and stopped the man with ease. She grabbed and brought him down to the floor, pinning him there so he wasn’t able to move an inch of his body anymore.
Caitlyn’s expression was more than shocked when Vi suddenly dragged her away, and even more shocked when she heard the strange man running up to her.
But Vi’s action was so fast, the guy didn’t even get into reach of her, she handled it professional and saved her from any harm.
“Wh-…what the-…?!”, she exclaimed, staring at the scene on the floor in front of her.
“MYO!! YOU KNOW WE BELONG TOGETHER!!!!”, the man screamed and Vi just tightened the grip on him, making him hiss in pain: “Nope, absolutely not.”, she said with a cold voice.
“Are you okay, Cupcake?”, she asked and looked up to Caitlyn, who was still frozen.
“You really have crazy ass fans, do you? This dude climbed through the window, and we’re in what? The 7th floor?!”, she said and Caitlyn took a deep breath: “Oh my… thank you…”, she gasped and took a step back: “But please, don’t call me Cupcake.” – “Ha, sorry. But you’re so sweet. Like a Cupcake.”, Vi snickered with an innocent grin and before Caitlyn could say anything more to that, the security guard came back.
“Wha-… Miss Kiramman, is everything okay?! What happened??”, he asked in shock when he found Vi holding a stranger on the floor.
“Well, seems like I did your job, mate.”, Vi said and gave the intruder to him.
“I am so, so sorry, this shouldn’t have happened…!”, he apologized to Caitlyn while calling the police to pick the guy up.
“Alright then, stay safe, yeah?”, Vi sighed and flattened her shirt after she got up again.
“Was nice to meet you.”, she smiled bitter and Caitlyn took her hand.
“… I think you have the job.”, she said, still holding her hand in hers.
“…What?” – “You have the job! No one could ever proof to be able to protect me like you did right now. I am serious, if you still want the job, you have it.”, Caitlyn said and let go of Vi’s hand again.
“Wha-... I mean, yeah, sure, I want the job!!”, Vi said a little too loud, which made Caitlyn chuckle.
“Alright then, let’s sign the papers.”

“You got it?! You got the job?? Aaaah, Sis’, that’s SO great!!”, Jinx grinned bright and jumped into her big sister’s arms, who caught and hugged her tight.
“Yes!! That means you can go to university and can concentrate on your studies without having to work beside it! You can move near the campus, too!”, Vi laughed happy and let her down again.
“O! M! G!”, Jinx shouted out and hopped up and down, biting her lower lip with wide opened eyes.
“But-… where will you live? Do you stay here in this rat hole?”, she asked and calmed a bit.
“No, I will move in with Caitlyn. Myo, I mean. And I will cancel the rental for this apartment here.”, Vi answered and went over to the kitchen to get herself a beer after throwing a can over to her little sister.
“Uhhhh, so you’re directly U-Hauling, huh??”, Jinx teased with an evil grin, while opening her can and taking a sip, and Vi just laughed: “Pow, I am working for her, not dating her.” – “YET!” – “Stop it!”
The sisters grinned and laughed, teased each other and walked over to the small living room.
“Let’s order Pizza to celebrate this, alright?”, Vi smiled and took her phone out to search for a delivery service near their apartment.
Jinx nodded with a grin and laid down on her back after they ordered, leaned her head on Vi’s thighs and looked up to her with a mischievous look on her face: “But you can’t deny, she’s your type!”
Vi rolled her eyes but couldn’t stop the smirk which grew on her lips.
“AHA! Called it!!”, Jinx continued the teasing and Vi started to tickle the shit out of her sister, who tried to fight back, which wasn’t very easy, but she would never give up so easily.
“Stop that!! She’s my boss now, that would be VERY unprofessional if I would ask her out!”, Vi said, still tickling the younger one merciless.
“Aaaahhhh hahAHAHAH!! S-... S-…Stop, stoohohooop, ahaha! VI!! STOP!!!”, Jinx broke out into laughter under her sister’s attack and tried to catch her hands which she wasn’t able to.
“Will you stop with the teasing?!”, Vi asked with a grin and Jinx slapped the couch three times: “Ye-…yeah! Ahahaha! Yeah, I-… I give up, hahaha!”, she laughed loudly and Vi finally stopped her tickling.
“… I will miss you.”, the older sister sighed with a bitter smile and Jinx sat up to hug her tight.
“… I will miss you, too. Really… thank you. For everything you did and do for me.”, Jinx whispered, and Vi tightened the hug after hearing those words.
“Always.”, she smiled and both loosened the hug to smile at each other, both with tears in their eyes.
“Enough of this whiney mood!! Where’s the Pizza!!”, Jinx said, she couldn’t stand such a mood for long, and Vi was thankful for that.
“We literally ordered just 5 minutes ago, they can’t just magically bring them in that time.”, Vi laughed and got up to clean the table in front of the couch, so there was enough space for the food.
Soon after, the Pizza finally arrived, and the sisters started to eat together while watching cartoons.
“By the way. Is it still planned that you move in with Lux?”, Vi grinned knowing, before taking a bite of her Pizza. Jinx got excited suddenly: “Yes!! This will be SO awesome, we can hang out EVERY night and have SLEEPOVERS in our rooms, and-…”, she started giggling and Vi’s evil grin grew: “Who’s the one U-Hauling now, huh?” – “AH! YOU BETRAYED ME!!” – “Nope, just telling the truth!”

Caitlyn was back in her villa, up on the hills.
It was a very modern architecture, it had a lot of glass walls and was painted white.
The building was surrounded by a thick wall, about 2,5m high, it was only accessible through a safety metal gate, opened by a remote or by typing in a code, only Caitlyn and her chauffeur knew.
She stood in her open kitchen, dressed in a black silk robe and pouring herself a glass of rosé wine.
The incident with that ‘fan’ today was still in her bones, it was a scary situation.
She didn’t want to imagine what could have happened if Vi haven’t been there to protect her.
Suddenly, her phone started to ring, and she took a look at the screen, leaning against the high bar table, it was her mother.
“Hello?”, she answered the phone and took a sip of her wine.
“Caitlyn! Dear, I just wanted to check on you and I wanted to know how the job interviews went.”, Cassandra said while she seemed to walk through busy streets.
“Oh! It went quite well, I found the perfect match for the job as my personal bodyguard. She-…”, Caitlyn started with a happy voice, but got interrupted immediately: “She?! Caitlyn, a female? Really?”, Cassandra spoke appalled, not sure if she heard her daughter correctly.
“Uhm… yes?! What’s the matter? She suits this job perfectly. And she has already proven it.”, Caitlyn said, her eyebrows drawn together.
“And how did that happen, dear?”, Cassandra asked, still walking while talking.
“Someone broke into the hotel room where we had the interviews and she took the suspect down in no time, he didn’t even get into my reach. A full-grown man, mother, she took him down like it was nothing. And I am certain with my decision, I won’t let you talk me out of this. The contract is already signed, too.”, Caitlyn said with a firm voice, not willing to let her mother manipulate her or else.
“…”, Cassandra sighed at the other end of the phone, “Well. If you think she is right for the job, fine. But Caitlyn, I hope this has nothing to do with your… your preferences. I am sure I don’t have to remind you about our talk with the management. Do not ruin your career, Caitlyn, this is serious.”
Caitlyn got an unpleasant feeling in her guts, she hated it. She hated the society and the business for this. It wasn’t fair.
“I know, mother. How could I forget.”, she answered with a sigh.
She didn’t want to continue this topic, so she changed it: “How’s New York? Are you and Dad having a good time?”, she asked, and Cassandra just huffed with a sarcastically amused sound: “It is full, it is overly busy, it is dirty, and it smells, Caitlyn, like always. But the business is going well, I am very certain we will have a good deal by the end of the week.”, she answered while some cars started to honk in the background and an ambulance ran by with emergency lights and loud sirens, commented by an annoyed sigh of Cassandra.
“Oh, that’s nice to hear. How long will you stay?”, Caitlyn asked before taking another sip of wine.
“If everything is sealed this week, your father and me will fly over to Florida to take some time off. I can’t tell you when we will be back in South Korea, it also could be that we have to make a stop in the UK on the way back, but I can’t tell by now.”, she answered, and Caitlyn sighed quietly.
“Alright. Would you tell papa my greetings? Enjoy your time in Florida then.”, she said, and Cassandra nodded, despite she was only on the phone: “I will, dear. Stay safe and keep us updated on your new album. The release date comes nearer and nearer, you have to finish it soon.”
Caitlyn sighed, another sip of wine: “Yes, mother, I will. There’s a recording appointment the day after tomorrow. Violet will start her work tomorrow already, so I will use the day before the recording to explain everything to her. But I am sure she will make a great job.”
There was a short pause between mother and daughter, it was a weird feeling.
“I have to hang up, Caitlyn, I have the next appointment in a few minutes. Take care, goodbye.”, the older woman said, and Caitlyn answered shortly: “Okay, goodbye then.”
The call ended, and Caitlyn took a deep breath.
Why must she bring that up? Just because she hired a woman, it doesn’t mean she would instantly date her. She emptied her glass in one big sip and shook her head, before she filled it again and walked up to the flat rooftop, where she had a whirlpool integrated in a nicely expanded terrace.
She turned the whirlpool on, took her robe off and sank into the warm and bubbling water.
“Haaa~”, she sighed and relaxed into the cozy feeling, her wineglass in one hand, while the other rested on the edge of the pool.
“…”
She closed her eyes and suddenly, her mind drove off to Vi.
She was indeed very attractive, Caitlyn couldn’t deny it. A small smirk found the way on her lips, but she chuckled shortly after about her own thought.
“/You don’t even know her. She’s your new bodyguard, remember what happened with the last one. It’s unprofessional to even THINK about that, Cait, stop it. It’s the wine, I’m pretty sure it’s the wine./”, she held a monologue in her head and took another sip from her glass.
“/I will show and explain everything to her tomorrow after she moved in, and then we’ll see./”
