Chapter 1: January

Chapter Text

“Let’s go omega, let’s see what’s your worth,” King Magnus said to the omega who held the sword, “You have only one shot at this, and you are fail, you are doomed to stay the night at the dungeon, and fight on the next day against the dragon, and we both know who is going to win it.”

Alec looked at the ground, knowing that the king expected him to fail at his task, he was determined to show everyone that he is worth living.

The omega raised his head and stared at the king, giving him a brief nod, and waited for the king to lead to the so-called mission.

The king climbed on his horse as the omega followed him by foot, not even letting the snow stop him, or even the cold that was touching beneath his thin shirt.

Alec tried to hold it together as he walked through the snowstorm, gritting his teeth as he walked, trying not to fall on his sword in the middle of nowhere as he tried to follow the alpha’s horse.

Magnus moved his horse over the nearest cave that he could see by using his magic to show the way and warm himself, and then he climbed down his horse, using his magic to protect his stallion from the heavy winds, not wishing to lose it after the snow storm redeemed.

The king took cover inside the cave from the snowstorm, he tried to find the omega, but there was nothing but snow that was covering the ground. Magnus could hear the shrieking winds and no omega.

For a moment the alpha feared for the omega, not knowing if he was going to survive even before the mission.

Magnus sighed heavily, letting his magic surround him with warmth as he took one step forward, walking blindly on the snowy ground until he collided with a body.

“Ugh, omega is that you?” Magnus asked, kneeling beside, trying to touch and see if it was the omega or if there was something else.

Magnus could feel the shivering, “Come on, I don’t have all day, and we are already losing daylight.”

Alec could feel the king helping him to stand and leading him over to the cave.

Alec could feel the weight of the sword stealth, not wishing to lose it because of the weather, trying to hold on to the belt even if he could feel his fingers.

Magnus dragged the worthless omega inside the cave and let him fall on the ground, and then the alpha cleared the snowflakes from his clothes.

The king set a fire with his magic inside the cave, letting himself getting warm, knowing that on the next day, they should hurried and finish the job, the mission of killing Valentine, the one who kidnapped his friends and family and wished to set him free, even if it might kill the omega in process, Magnus knew he should try, maybe the omega is the last hope.

Magnus sighed, looking in disgust at the omega who didn’t move since he dropped him on the rocky ground.

“Whenever I look at you, I hope I did the right decision by taking you with me to the mission, and omega,” Magnus snarled at him, seeing the omega staring at him, “You better kill Valentine, or your death will be greater than losing to the dragon.”

Alec only stared at him, ignoring the pain as he could feel the sharp rock that fell on the ground, was leaving a gash on his side, gritting his teeth, he tried to move away from the rock, leaning against the wall of the cave, he closed his eyes, trying to regain his composure, doesn’t want to look weak to the alpha.

The omega moved his hand to cover the blood, gritting over the pain, thinking that might sleep could help.

The alpha could smell the iron, deep smell of it, and the omega was laying half on the ground and the wall, and there was blood sipping from his gash.

Magnus used his magic to wipe the blood and clean it, and then with flicked, the magic delivered a warm coat as the alpha covered the omega with it, hope it will bring the omega some heat since he could see the omega still shivering, his body was pale, and the alpha could swear he could see the pain in those blue eyes of the omega.

“You should have said something if you are cold or hurt, omega.” Magnus said, and placed the omega next to him, near the fire, hoping it will defrost the omega and give him the strength that he is going to need for the fight.

Magnus conjured the magic again, knowing that the sleep will help him recharge after wasting so much magic on the omega.

Between him and the omega, there was a white cloth with red stripes, and on the top of it, there was warm food and drink.

“You better eat and drink, omega, cause I don’t need any deadweight with me over to the big fight.” Magnus warned and gave him a hard glare.

Magnus took the hot cup and warmed his hands with it, before taking a short sip, trying not to burn his tongue, while watching the omega, taking a bread and only eating bits of it, and placing it back on the cloth.

“Here, you need to drink the water if you want it down your throat so you won’t choke on it.” Magnus gave him the cup of water, and kept watching the omega, noticing how small sips he was taking.

The alpha sighed heavily, hoping that they were going to survive it.
