Royal balls were a lot more common in Brightmoon now. Usually, the people of Etheria had been limited to merely the princess ball held every few years or some other special occasion like a wedding, but Glimmer had decided to throw parties more often, to in her words ‘strengthen the bonds of the Princess Alliance’.
In actuality, she loved parties and honestly, who among her friends didn’t? Adora and Catra in particular eventually learned to love a good royal ball, a chance to dress up in their best and enjoy themselves for a night, not having to worry about their respective duties as She-Ra and Glimmer’s right hand.
And tonight in particular was one of those nights, as Brightmoon was once again playing host to a grand ball. Adora loved the attention she got, everyone applauding and gazing at her and Catra, feeling validated in all the good she’d done for Etheria and for feeling the love of her friends and the people of her homeworld.
The two walked out into the ballroom after they were announced, a shower of applause from the gathered guests as they walked down the steps to the dance floor below, the long skirt of Adora’s poofy dress flowing behind her. It was on nights like this that Adora loved to look like a princess.
During her time in both the Horde and Rebellion, she’d never really had much of a chance to express herself, express her femininity. Now though, with the war over, she was very comfortable in long flowing dresses, like the gorgeous white and gold ballgown she was wearing, accented by the long gloves she wore and the tiara on her head.
She was even wearing makeup surprisingly, something that Catra insisted made her look dazzling. And Catra wasn’t exactly lacking in the looks department that night either. The felid was wearing a white, gold and red royal suit, though she was wearing a gold variation of her old headpiece that night.
It contrasted well against her her new hairdo, a long ponytail reminiscent of the one Adora used to have.
While Adora had fully accepted her role as a princess, it was Catra who was more than happy to be her dashing prince. She’d never forgotten how much Adora stared at her in her old princess prom suit and found her rather handsome with her short hair. While her hair had grown out, she’d done her best to style herself in the most dashing of ways, mostly to make Adora’s heart flutter.
And she had definitely succeeded that night, as they enjoyed the evening together, talking with Glimmer, Bow, their friends from all over the kingdoms. The highlight of the evening was hearing that Scorpia and Perfuma were going to have a baby. But as the evening wound on, both Catra and Adora found themselves on the dance floor, as the hired band played a wonderful waltz.
Catra was the one to lead, gladly leading Adora onto the dance floor as the music began. She held Adora close, hand held in hand, eyes fixed on the beauty of her wife, the most gorgeous woman on all of Etheria as far as Catra was concerned. Sure, she could concede to Glimmer or Scorpia being extremely radiant that night, but Catra had eyes for one woman and one woman alone.
Adora had to smile in awe as she waltzed with Catra, feeling her beautiful wife not letting go even for a second. Their eyes remained fixed on the other, Adora feeling like she could see the whole universe just staring into her wife’s beautiful mismatched eyes. She held on with her gloved hands, pulling herself closer.
Looking around, she saw several of her friends were also dancing with their respective lovers. Glimmer with Bow, Scorpia with Perfuma, Mermista with Sea Hawk. She knew they were happy tonight, but to allow herself another selfish though, she was the one who felt happiest that night.
Still waltzing with Adora, Catra drank in the sight of her wife, loving how radiant she was and that such a gorgeous woman was all hers. Only Adora could look that good in a dress like that, not that Adora would admit that, but Catra would. She’d loved Adora every second of every day since they were kids and now they were together, married, destined to spend forever with one another.
As the music continued on, the two lovers twirled and spun around the dance floor, Adora giggling with delight. This was just like the vision she’d seen before she and Catra professed their love, the happily ever after that she deserved.
“Tonight is perfect,” She whispered, her gloved hand stroking Catra’s cheek.
“You’re perfect, Princess,” Catra said, her mismatched eyes gazing fondly at the woman she loved.
Adora looked to her left, noticing how so many people in the crowd were now staring at them. She couldn’t blame them. If anyone were to name Etheria’s number one power couple it would be her and Catra. Still, she did feel a little anxious with so many eyes on her and it made her feel a little flushed in the face.
“There’s a lot of people staring.”
“Let them stare, Adora,” Catra said, tilting her chin up and leaning in a little closer. “If you ask me, the whole damned world deserves to know that you’re mine.”
Hearing those words made Adora flush red. She loved how Catra took control so often now, took care of her, made her feel all gooey inside. It was everything she wanted, Catra giving her the chance to let go and let someone take care of her. And Catra… well, she couldn’t have asked for a better wife.
She’d spent all her life being everyone’s hero, everyone’s champion, always taking charge. So now it was fitting that she be the one taken care of, shown love and adoration by those who cared about her.
Catra twirled and spun her around more and more, the music carrying on. Adora felt like her feet were barely touching the ground. Her eyes still fixed themselves on Catra, her felid wife smirking as she then dipped her down, the sounds of the crowd whooping around the two of them.
Their lips were barely inches apart. Adora probably could have just relaxed and let Catra kiss her but… she was deciding to feel bold at that moment and grabbed Catra’s shoulders, kissing her deeply. Catra blushed, quickly kissing back and pulling Adora close and upright, surprised by Adora’s fervour.
But she wasn’t entirely surprised. She’d been practically teasing Adora all evening, so why shouldn’t she have been the one to make the first move? As the two wives parted from their kiss, Adora just grinned, still clinging on to Catra a little bit.
“That was certainly bold,” Catra whispered.
“Can you blame me? I’m dancing with the most handsome woman on Etheria right now.”
Holding Adora, Catra chuckled. “No, I guess I can’t.” She sighed, touching foreheads with her wife. “Nights like this are so perfect. Me, you, getting to be all pretty and have fun… so glad these happen so often.”
“Let’s hope nights like this don’t lose their magic,” Adora admitted.
“With you, Adora, I can’t see anything ever losing its magic,” Catra flirted, before she dipped Adora and kissed her again as hard as she could, Adora surrendering right away and clinging onto her wife.
As the night went on and on, and more dances and kisses were shared, Adora and Catra had one of the happiest nights of their life. The next royal ball would probably be only a few months away, but for the two of them, that already felt like an eternity to wait. So until they were the only ones left on the dance floor, the two of them treasured this night like one to last forever.
