After returning from Canaan House, having refused the promise of Lyctorhood, Harrowhark Nonagesimus tries to make sense of an uncertain future and a Ninth House without Gideon Nav. Gideon joins the Cohort, and learns that sometimes getting everything you always wanted isn't always everything it's cracked up to be. Both try to clumsily navigate what a relationship is supposed to look like after years of mutual hatred, followed by trauma bonding and one single honest conversation about big feelings. They do it all through trading letters, and are totally normal about it. Palamedes Sextus is a good, long-suffering friend.
