The Romantic Montague’s

Summary:

“Romeo Montague was romantic to his core. He was constantly waxing sorrowful prayers for love, gazing out windows longingly, and reciting romantic poetry to any fair maiden that even spared him a glance. The rest of the Montague family loved the young heir dearly but they couldn’t help but find his endless romanticism a tad ridiculous and they never hesitated to tell him such.”

Or Romeo is a romantic and his family bullies him for it but it turns out the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree

Chapter 1: Romantic Number 1 - Romeo Montague

Chapter Text

Romeo Montague was romantic to his core. He was constantly waxing sorrowful prayers for love, gazing out windows longingly, and reciting romantic poetry to any fair maiden that even spared him a glance. The rest of the Montague family loved the young heir dearly but they couldn’t help but find his endless romanticism a tad ridiculous and they never hesitated to tell him such.

Dinner that night had been relatively silent other than the rare idle chatter and the occasional turn of a page from a book Benvolio was reading. Suddenly Romeo swayed into the room humming a light tune to himself as he spun towards his seat. The rest of the Montague’s quickly snapped their attention to the young boy and simply stared at him as he collapsed into his chair with a lovesick sigh. Benvolio barely managed to choke back his laugh at the sound.

“Good den, gentle Montague’s I pray thee are well” The boy spoke lightly. The lord and lady exchanged amused glances with each other as Benvolio set his book to the side to give the infatuated boy his full attention.

“Good den, cousin. Thou dost appear to be in a merry mood. What events have led to such joy?” Benvolio spoke politely. Despite already knowing what news was to come the Montague’s all leaned forward in their seats anticipating the boy's latest tales of his lighthearted infatuations. Romeo sighed once again.

“Dear cousin, I have fallen in love. My fair maiden and I are bound to be wed by next spring”

“The next spring you say? Why that’s only a fortnight off cos” Benvolio gave his cousin a withering stare and Romeo had the decency to look sheepish before he began his long speech on his new maiden. The Montague’s tried their best to hold in their chuckles but were unable to keep them completely silent and Romeo quickly took note of the amusement of his audience.

“Why dost thou laugh? Dost thou think me a minstrel?” The Montague’s bite back their laughter in attempt to address the boy properly but the trio kept bursting into peels of laughter, causing Romeo to frown indignantly at his family.

“Forgive us son. We mean not to laugh at your misgivings” Lord Montague finally managed between his laughter. “Our amusement merely comes from the severity and the momentum that your love doth appear.”

Romeo crossed his arms tightly over his chest while leaning back in his chair. “Thou mocks me with such ferocity.. I do ponder if love be inherited.”
