The local enigma of UA

Summary:

UA is used to Enigmas.
Goddamn, All Might, Eraserhead and Nedzu were at the school, they had to be.

But a student always placing first place, no matter what competition or class, never even showing up to class?? Well, that was another level of mystery they were just not used to.

Chapter Text

UA is used to enigmas. That counts for both their teachers and students. Although, the students were more likely to crack and reveal who they are. But the teachers? They thrived in mystery, they counted on it.

All Might had graduated from UA but no one knew where he came from before that. He had shown up one day, determination in his eyes, a powerful quirk in his vines. But no one knew what his hobbies were or if he had siblings, nor had they ever seen his parents. His quirk was a mystery as big as his past. He talked and walked as if he had the world on his shoulders and perhaps he did. He had never made any deep connections, not that his classmates realized it back then and then he disappeared to the USA.

He came back as a symbol of peace, an ideology bigger than himself. He came back a changed man.

Eraserhead hadn’t been an enigma the whole time, not like All Might had been. As a teenager, he was more emo than anything else. Grumpy and sleepy, antisocial and closed off. But when he returned as a teacher he rose quickly in the ever-growing ‘wtf is up with this person' list that every student had. No one knew where he lived or if he had a family. Not his age nor food preferences were known. The only thing the man was known for was sleep and coffee. And that was exactly how he wanted it.

Nedzu, their own principal, was as big an enigma as the other two. The only things known about him were too horrifying to talk about. An animal with a quirk tested on by sick humans, a sentient being used as a simple lab rat. What species he was, a mystery, perhaps a guarded secret. Mayhaps a test to scout out interesting beings. Either way, no one expected to ever know.

One thing they all had in common was that they were meant to be enigmas. They carefully created their images, held their tongues when needed and talked when they wanted. All three of them saw advantages in being mysteries, so they were.

So when a rather small teenager stepped onto UA grounds on the day of the entrance exam with his hood up and a mask shielding most of his face many didn’t even blink. Just a kid trying to be mysterious, to grow an image they envisioned.

A child trying to be a hero.

But when he walked by their teachers, heroes, with confidence and received a nod from them they had to take a double take. This kid wasn’t a legacy kid or not one they knew about. And yet, he seemed to know these heroes on a deeper level than most third years.

He took down his hood when he was inside, revealing a brilliant bush of forest green that matched his eyes to a tie. He rolled his shoulders and began his exam without any rush. And yet, he was the first to leave. He left the room after a measly thirty minutes, ignoring the shocked gazes of those he left behind.

When they entered the bus, the green-haired boy was already there with his head leaning on the window, eyes closed.

The ride to the fake city was silent.

When they arrived the boy abruptly stood up, no one had woken him up, then again no one was sure if he had ever been asleep. He exited the bus with a small jump, his hair bouncing along.

“Excuse me!” The engine boy called after him, “My name is Iida Tenya.”

He didn't get an answer, only a slant of the head and green eyes slowly blinking up at him.

Iida awkwardly cleared his throat and extended a hand, "I'm sorry to disturb you, however, I would like to talk to you about the written exam! As you left firstly!"

A small smile graced the green-haired boy's face, he seemed amused. It was quite the sight. Especially in comparison to Iida, who was having a small mental breakdown in response to being ignored.

Most of the crowd would never admit how attentive they were to, till now, one-sided conversation. They would rather not think about how attention-grabbing the stranger was. He was rather plain after all, had not even said a word and yet they watched his every move.

“AND START!”

A streak of lightning struck down multiple robots just after the moment Present Mic screamed.

Iida stood awkwardly with his hand outstretched to thin air, he and many others slowly looked towards the city. With mouths agape they looked at the boy who just stood right in front of them, now standing on top of a large pile of metal, still sparking with leftover electricity.

The boy himself sparked too, he simmered with green sparks. His eyes, which gazed down on them, shone with brilliance. He was intoxicating to look at. It was thrilling to be perceived by him. He didn’t belong there amongst them, he wasn’t meant to walk among them, mortals.

And just like that, the teen was gone, already pounding on other robots.

Present Mic stumbled over his words as he encouraged the others to get moving.

The enigma, and oh how he had already earned that title, helped and destroyed. He was quick and precise. The others couldn’t help but falter in his presence, it was overwhelming as if gravity itself was heavier around the green-haired being. Physics didn’t make sense around him, he was impossibly fast, impossibly strong. Some swore that they saw him float. But how can that be when he had a speed quirk? Or was it a strength quirk? But what were those black tendrils then? How could he react with such speed as if he could predict the movement of his enemies? Always one step ahead, always one turn quicker.

As the zero pointer appeared they could only watch with growing admiration and perhaps a tinge of fear as the enigma ran towards the apartment-sized robot, easily jumping even higher than the bloody thing. And almost casually, the lighting struck down on its head, the pressure pushing down the metal to the ground. A crater was formed around him, the metal pointing sharply upwards.

And as if he hadn’t just blown everyone’s mind the teen left the metal behind him at an upbeat pace, going towards the girl who was stuck underneath the rubble.

“Hey, are you okay?” He asked lifting the rock with one hand, the other one reaching out to the girl.

But she just stared up at him, eyes wide. And no one could blame her, how could they when they heard the same thing as her? When they heard how his voice didn’t sound normal. How it is was multiple voices overlapping each other.

It was ancient, unnatural, inhuman.

And yet, they saw the small teen before their very own eyes. Kindly looking down on the girl with all the patience of the world. So very human, but so very much more than human.

“Y-yeah,” The girl took his hand.

“I’m glad,” He smiled at her, pulling her up, “Hope you get in!” His voice was normal now and oh so sweet.

“T-thanks, you too! My name is Uraraka-”

The boy smiled, “Countermand,” he pulled up his hood, lighting decorating his being.

“H-huh?” Urakaka could barely mutter before he disappeared in a green flash.
