Veins of Thunder, Blood of a God

Summary:

Something inside him buzzed, filling his veins with burning fire and arcs of electricity, but the feeling was not painful. No, it felt right, if not a little frightening.

Work Text:

It wasn’t often that Sky let anger get the better of him, as he greatly preferred to talk a situation down and work towards a compromise rather than to argue or fight, but as he watched his brothers get carelessly tossed and thrown to the side time and time again, something in him snapped.

Wild lay unconscious near Twilight and Hyrule, the Traveler desperately trying to stay awake and aware as he pulsed healing magic into Twilight’s heavily bleeding side. Warriors, Legend, and Four were awake, but Legend clearly had a broken leg and was unable to move, and the other two were having a hard time keeping up with the enemies who slowly began to surround them. Somewhere behind Sky remained the rest of the heroes: Wind, Mask and Spirit having been working with Sky to try and get to the others and drive the enemy away. They had nearly succeeded, too, until Wind took an unsightly blow to the head and Mask was targeted and taken down rather quickly, leaving Spirit and Sky to fight a battle they were sure to lose.

Sky whistled, long, loud and piercing, drawing the attention of the dozens of yiga members who were present. He planted both of his feet on the ground firmly, sword readied and splayed to his side as the group of Yiga turned to face him with gleeful anticipation, practically rejoicing in the chance to fight someone else and win.

Sky wouldn’t let that fly for long.

He hadn’t done this for so long . It tended to be a more violent way of taking out his enemies, one he didn’t necessarily prefer, but as he watched their chances of winning this fight go down to nothing in mere minutes, he had no choice but to do what he could to keep his friends safe.

Something inside him buzzed, filling his veins with burning fire and arcs of electricity, but the feeling was not painful. No, it felt right, if not a little frightening.

The crackling energy running through his veins took hold, and he felt the energy pulse once, twice, before bursting out of him, feeling the air around him grow energized with an audible fizzle of electricity. The scent of ozone permeated his nostrils, and if the way the yiga group suddenly stuffened, they had realized that something was happening as well.

The yiga group froze, suddenly very aware of how the air felt suddenly sinister, buzzing with an uncomfortably strong energy. Sky took a step towards them.

Dark clouds rolled in, and thunder boomed overhead, lightning cracking to the ground just a handful of yards away and shaking the earth below him as more thunder erupted above them. Sky felt his lips curl into a malicious snarl, feeling static electricity prickle at his fingertips and bristle along the lightning shaped scars running from his hands to just below his right eye.

It took an effort, but he closed his eyes, allowing his mind to only handle the task at hand. He molded his focus to surround only his enemies, being careful to weave a blast zone that was safely distanced away from and in between the other heroes. It was tiring, using a lot of his mental energy to ensure that his friends would be safe, but it was worth the effort, he thought.

His eyes snapped open, and he grinned coolly when the yiga heaitantly charged forwards, long blades and dual swords pointed right at Sky’s chest. Sky didn’t even flinch, raising the Master Sword above his head in a practiced stroke and feeling the world freeze in anticipation.

“You want to get to my friends?” Sky spoke, his voice loud and low and echoing throughout the clearing, matching the rolling thunder that rattled the sky in its ear splitting volume. He chuckled darkly, more to intimidate the others if anything.

“Then you’ll have to get through me, I’m afraid.”

He brought his sword down, pointing the blade at his enemies.

The world erupted into a show of light; blues and purples and whites that blinded in their brightness and intensity. The lighting cracked down upon the yiga, eliminating them quickly and cleanly.

And then the thunder, mere milliseconds later.

Its sound was deafening, the boom reverberating through the air, the earth shaking beneath Sky’s feet as he urged the lightning storm on. He stood his ground with confidence, attention turned fully towards where the enemy once stood.

And then the world returned to normal, the thunder ceasing and the lighting disappearing, the dark clouds in the sky dissipating with a single flick of Sky’s wrist. Where the yiga once stood, nothing remained, the grass scorched and still smoking. Yet where his friends stood in fear and awe, they had remained untouched.

Sky let his facade of power drop, the anger he felt towards the Yiga disappearing the instant he saw that his friends were safe and sound, relatively unharmed other than the injuries they had already sustained.

Someone spoke to him, but the voice sounded muddy and far away. Sky turned to try and decipher who had spoken to him. Warriors looked shocked and a little intimidated, taking a careful step towards Sky with a hand outstretched.

He tried to meet his friend, wanting to rush to his side and make sure that Warriors was okay before rushing to the aid of the others, but his legs buckled beneath him.

He was brought to his knees, someone held him up by the shoulders. Exhaustion unlike any he’d felt in years clouded his every thought, eyes falling shut involuntarily and head dipping forwards and into the shoulder of whoever was supporting him.

This was another reason he didn’t particularly enjoy using this ability often, as well. The power he held within him was just that— powerful— but it took an incredible amount of energy that almost always knocked Sky off his feet for days on end.

Someone called to him from a distance. He forced his eyes to open, lifting his head slowly and peeking at the world from behind his eyelashes to make sure that his friends were safe.

A brief glimpse to see that Twilight had been mostly healed and was tending to both Wild and Legend with Four’s help, meanwhile Hyrule had rushed to Mask and Wind’s aid, pale colored healing magic already glowing at his fingers.

Satisfied that everyone was in safe hands, Sky let his eyes shut once more, exhaustion taking over and pulling him farther and farther away from the present until he had fallen into a deep sleep.
