Pro Hero Deku and his retired mentor All Might are sitting together on a couch, both in civilian clothes. Deku is recording on his phone, and has a neon pink kitty ear/nose/whisker filter on.
He holds up a peace sign, then curls his hand like a cat’s paw. All Might sighs.
“Turn that off.”
“No,” says Deku, and All Might shakes his head.
“What are you even recording?”
“Oh, yeah.” Deku’s face lights up, and he angles the camera to include more of All Might.
“Tell them you’re not my dad,” he says, and All Might sputters violently, a spurt of blood dripping down his chin. Deku grimaces, turning around to actually face him. The kitty filter catches the shadows on the back of his head a few times, blinking in and out as he moves.
“Young Midoriya,” he gasps. “You can’t - why would you - don’t surprise me like that!”
“Sorry,” he says sheepishly, passing him a tissue. All Might wipes the blood from his chin carefully.
“Tell them you’re not my dad,” Deku says again, and this time All Might scoffs in disbelief. “Come on! Everyone’s confused, they think I’m your secret love child.”
All Might sputters again, but thankfully does not choke or bleed this time.
“They think what?” he gasps, eyes wide. “Midoriya-”
“I know!”
“You are like a son to me - but we’re not-”
“Some people seem to think you adopted him,” says someone off camera, and All Might whirls around, wheezing.
“H-how could they know about that?!”
Deku quickly turns back to the camera, hunching in a way that blocks All Might from view. His lips curl in a tight, awkward smile.
“Okay, you weren’t really supposed to say that.”
“Say what?! Don’t they already know?”
“Well, I mean, sort of, but it’s just a rumor right now! I didn’t want - I didn’t think you wanted it to get out.”
Deku closes his eyes and sighs. All Might is quiet for a moment before speaking again in a hushed tone:
“Do you want people to know?”
Deku shrugs. “I don’t know. I thought… I don’t know.”
All Might is quiet again.
Deku turns around, sets the phone down on the coffee table. The camera points at the ceiling, but Deku and All Might’s voices can still be heard, if muffled slightly.
“I thought you wanted it to be kept a secret. For your identity and everything, y’know?”
“My boy, I have been retired a long time now. My identity doesn’t need to be a secret anymore, and certainly not for your safety. Any villain coming after you to get to me has another thing coming.”
Deku laughs.
“Sorry. I guess, when you said you didn’t want to announce it…”
“That was many years ago. If you want to go public with it now, I will support you.”
There’s another awkward pause before All Might can be heard again, his voice much quieter.
“Besides,” he says, “I’ve mostly kept it a secret so your friends wouldn’t tease you.”
Deku snorts. “Most of them already know.”
All Might laughs under his breath. “Of course they do. Ah, I should have known.”
“So… you’re okay if I tell people?”
“It’s your choice, Young Midoriya.”
“You know I’m not that young anymore, right?”
“Well, you’re not too old to give me a hug, are you?”
There’s a muffled ruffling of fabric, then a moment of silence before Deku reaches for the camera. He fumbles with it until he has it pointing back at himself, All Might, and his mother, who can now be seen grinning in the background. She waves at the camera, but is too far away to be caught by the kitty filter.
All Might rolls his eyes, but he’s smiling fondly at Deku the whole time.
“So, yeah,” says Deku, once again sporting neon pink whiskers and cat ears. “Totally not my dad.”
