Chapter Text
“So we are going to Italy…Why?” you ask your friend who has currently slammed your poor door open and throws clothes around the room like a mad woman.
“My boss said if I don’t accept the arranged marriage he set up between his son and me then I will be fired. On top of that, they threaten to black list me. So Italy, to escape for a bit and maybe find something that'll lead me to the right career path” Casey was one of your dearest friends. The fact that she was basically being blackmailed had you fuming, “Oh no you don’t! You are not breaking into a corporate office and raining hell. Don’t even think about it.”
You love her but you do hate it when she won’t let me go after those who walk all over her. Then again you won’t let her get mad for you. You never cared if people hurt you, that’s all you’ve ever known. Being tossed out cause you are a freak, different, a demon. You were none of that. Told that when you were just a kid, all because of a disability you never had a say in. Casey doesn’t care about you having epilepsy, if anything she loved that you were different. You two were never what society considered “normal”. Always wacky and having fun regardless of what others thought.
“At least let me pack. You suck at it.”
“HEY!” Casey shouts while throwing a crumpled t-shirt at you.
~ three days later~
“ITALY! Oh finally free for a bit” Casey sighs. She looks worse for wear, the stress must have been eating at her for longer than she is letting on. You stretch while following Casey to your hotel. It's a quaint little place, homey and inviting in such an overwhelming city.
“Oh Dearies! You made it. Come in. Come in!” The elderly owner insists. Her name is Isabella. She is a plump little lady (maybe 4’6-4’10? If you had to guess), gray hair braided and soft brown eyes. Her husband came over with a large lasagna and urged us to sit and eat as he brought our stuff to our room. He was stubborn as a bull and refused any help we tried to offer. Just said “You need to rest and eat.” Carlo is a sweet man, a solid half a foot taller than his wife. They were small out of all the italians you’ve ever met, not that you’re complaining. You just find the small elderly couple adorable.
After dinner it was time to try and fix your sleep schedule before something bad happens. Last thing you want is to have seizures on your trip. However glad that your seizures are not convulsant, it does pose a problem when you get brain fog or shut off like a broken computer. Having Casey here is a saving grace as she does know how to handle your seizures after a concert you went to had some aggressive light shows.
The next morning was a blur. Casey wants to go everywhere and you barely process what she is saying and before you know it you are heading to the heart of the city.
“Casey?” you say tiredly.
“Yes~”
“What is so important that you had to drag me out here at the crack of dawn?” You yawn.
“There are some breakfast shops that only serve people until they run out of that day's supply! I really wanted to try it before we have to return home.” You can hear the pain, sorrow and disgust in her voice.
“Alright. Lead the way.” You wince at the ear piercing squeal of excitement that she let out while grabbing your hand and returns to dragging you around. The rest of the day went relatively the same.
“Oh me! You young girls look like dolls!” says a kind woman carrying groceries.
“Do you want help with those?” You ask but she swats your hand away gently.
“I can carry these. Where are you two heading?” the woman asks.
“Probably back to our hotel. Might swing by somewhere to get drinks” Casey says.
“I’m not drinking. Just making sure she doesn’t do anything stupid” You poke Casey.
“Hey! I won't get in trouble! I can hold my liquor, I’ll have you know” She crosses her arms as if protecting her pride.
“There is a great tavern up the way. Just a few blocks away. Let me give you a map,” she pulls a napkin out and writes the directions, “Just don’t stay too late. All taverns and pubs get…umm…a little dangerous if you are there too late”
She looks concerned. You’d be scared of the night too if you didn’t already have a heads up before flying over. The hotel was cheap, almost free because of some family friends. Some other Italians you knew showed you pictures of people and places you could go and be safe, as well as the ones you should stay away from or hide if seen. This area, despite being nice, was a huge trap so to say. Which was why you received so many warnings not to go here or to stay on guard the entire time you were here. Her reaction wasn’t her trying to get us into trouble but trying to get us out of here safely.
“Thanks. We appreciate it,” you say with a genuine soft smile. She nods and waves while walking away.
“Can we trust her? She seemed a little skittish” Casey whispers.
“Yeah. We can. I was told this tavern was good and safe as long as we aren’t there after sundown”
“Ok. Then let's go!” Casey starts to skip off, leaving you to chase after her. Casey, more merry than a mouse with cheese, carried on not realizing she had no idea where she was going since she didn’t have the directions. You finally catch her and she is turning in a circle trying to find a street she might recognise but drops her head when she fails completely.
“You realize you didn’t have the directions?” You say with a raised eyebrow.
“You didn’t stop me!” She defended.
“I tried but you were skipping away humming your little tune,” you say calmly. Right as she goes to say something you hear something. Everything in your body tells you to hide. You grab Casey and hide behind a corner in the alleyway. She goes to say something before you hush her. Thankfully she listens for once. She never doubts your instincts.
You look around the corner to see fifteen men in suits behind four other men. They start to get closer. That's when you hear it.
“You have the merchandise?” A gruff voice questions.
“Yes sir, twenty seven. Some of the girls had to be put in their place but no major injuries. Bruises at most” another voice sounds. You aren’t paying attention to the voice. You need to get out of there. This is a meet up for a mafia human trafficking peddle. You look at Casey and motion to back up.
“Try to not damage the merchandise going further.” The gruff sounds again. This time you were sure. This was the Afton family, and that was William Afton. Current Don and one of the most vile leaders of recent mafias.
You find a spot where you two can sneak away but after Casey starts to go a clang can be heard. Your head shoots to see your medical bracelet fall. You throw your medical bag towards Casey and motion for her to run. This was not how you expected your night to go.
Little did you know this horrid encounter was being watched by a Luminous rat sitting in their own perfect sniping nest. They were not expecting to call their Dons tonight but this night went in a direction no one could’ve predicted.
