Work Text:

Drew brought his knees up to his chest, curling in on himself.

He was sitting on the floor in his room, back propped up against his bed. He didn't have the energy to climb into it, and he was more comfortable here anyways. Curled up on the floor. Alone.

God he was pathetic, wasn't he? He had fucked up big time. Like, he was right about all that shit he said to Jake! He meant every word of it!! But, that didn't mean he didn't regret it… just a little bit. Jake is— was. Jake was his best friend all throughout highschool. Sure he had Liam and Henry, but what he had with them wasn't the same as what he had with Jake. He cared about Jake more than anything.

And he pushed him away. Because his stupid jealousy got the best of him. God, he was a horrible friend. He should've pushed more when he noticed something was up. Should've tried harder to really see Jake. Instead, he let him get taken away by those music freaks. They opened their arms to Jake, and he just let him walk straight into them. Without even realizing it, he had let them take him away from him, and after everything Drew had said and done, they could probably keep him forever.

He really couldn't blame Jake for wanting to leave him for the music club either. Jake would probably never forgive him after this. He wasn't like Zoey, who could easily be bought back with shiny gifts and money. Jake valued people. He valued care and love. That's what made Jake so… different from everyone else. Because he liked Drew, not for his dad's money or his popularity, but for him. He liked him for Drew.

Drew groaned, burying his face in his knees. He had royally fucked up, and there was no taking that back.

Bzzt. Bzzt. Bzzzzzt.

Drew lifted his head with a glare, looking over at the phone he had discarded a couple feet away from him, which was currently being blown up with notifications from Liam and Henry asking if he was alright, Zoey still trying to win him back, and various classmates on social media talking about going to the band competition.

Drew sighed and dropped his head again, ready to continue wallowing in his mistakes, when he got an idea. He shot his head up once more, crying out a little when he hit his bed frame, but brushing it off quickly as he reached for his phone.

He opened up one of the posts about the band competition in search for a link to find tickets, and when he finally found them he stared at an opening for three seats, a couple rows back from the stage right at the aisle, ensuring a great view. He hesitated, finger hovering over the "buy tickets'' button. Wondering if this was really a good idea. Jake would probably never forgive him, so what was the point of going to his stupid band competition to watch him live the dream Drew never knew he had with people he never knew he'd become close with?

No. Drew shook his head and hit the button. He didn't give two fucks if Jake would never forgive him, leaving him lost and forgotten for the rest of his life, because he was gonna be damned if he didn't see his former best friend up on the stage, wide smiles and angelic voice ringing through the air. He had long forgiven Jake, and he— he'd rather see him happy on stage than miserable with him.

He called up Liam and Henry, ignoring their instant questions.

"We're going out tonight. Be ready by 5. I'll pick you both up," he said quickly, leaving no room for argument, before hanging up. He tossed his phone to the side again, ignoring the 2 of them now blowing up his phone with even more messages. He got up, dusting himself off from his pity party, and heading to his closet to make sure he had something nice to wear.

After all, it was Jake's big night.
