Uchiha Mikoto died the night of a full moon.
She died with her clan, by the side of her husband… at the hands of her first son.
The blade cut through her chest in a single swift move, it was almost elegant and it made her proud. Because Itachi learned how to use a blade from her. How to take care of his weapons, how to throw a senbon, where to cut and how to make it hurt… she taught him all of that and if that was her legacy… well, Mikoto was a shinobi, a kunoichi, how could she not be proud?
She gave her child the skills to kill his enemies before they killed him.
But Sasuke… Her second son was born at a time of peace and she had thought there would be more time to teach him. She thought he could have a more peaceful life, or a childhood at least. She was wrong.
Her only solace was knowing that Itachi would protect him.
Her death was almost painless. Her son was too kind, granting her such a quick death without the pain of seeing her husband’s corpse. It was more than what she deserved for failing to protect her family.
She died cursing Konoha, the village that took so much from her.
She died with a bitter smile on her lips.
She died thinking of her sons, wondering if they would forgive her one day.
She died the night of a full moon and that was supposed to be the end of her.
So why was she breathing again?
The world felt wrong. It was loud and blurry and she could not make sense of it. Her body felt wrong too. She could not move like she wanted, her limbs did not obey her and where those hands holding her?
Oh. She was small.
Too small. It wasn’t right. And the crying… that was her too. She could not stop her own crying. It would be humiliating but she was too distressed at the moment with the realization that she was a baby.
Uchiha Benihime was born the night of a blood moon.
