Work Text:
Starscream awoke to the feeling of a gentle servo on his wings. He sat up, glancing upwards.
“Skyfire…?”
That was impossible. Skyfire was gone. Lost to Earth long ago. Starscream
knew
that. He’d watched it happen. He’d searched half the fragging
globe
for him! He was hallucinating. Dreaming. Something.
“Yes, my Star?”
Oh, Primus.
How long he’d wanted to hear those words. How long he’d missed Skyfire’s gentle touch. How long he’d cried in his berth and begged Primus to let him have Skyfire back. And here he was. The Autobot jet in all his glory, petting Starscream’s wing like he used to do. Starscream couldn’t stop the tears from flowing from his optics, shaking slightly.
“Oh- Starscream, what’s wrong? What’s going on?”
“Y-You were gone. You were gone. How have you- Where did you- This can’t be happening.”
“My Star, you fell asleep at your desk. You had a nightmare.”
Starscream shook his head vigorously, gripping his desk tightly.
“No, no, no, no! No. It was years. Decades! The war! Megatron! You-”
Skyfire spun Starscream’s chair around and hugged him tightly.
“My Star. It was a nightmare. I’m here. You’re okay.”
Starscream began to sob into Skyfire, hugging him back and muttering nonsense into his shoulder. This was all he’d wanted for so long, for decades. He couldn’t believe this. It was as though all of his problems had evaporated instantaneously, and the only thing that mattered was Skyfire. He held Skyfire tightly, thanking Primus. Skyfire pulled back and held Starscream’s servos in his own, blue optics meeting red.
“It’s okay, Star. You’re okay.”
Starscream was quiet for a moment.
“...I’m okay.”
Skyfire pulled Starscream in for a hug again, kissing the top of his helm. Starscream sighed happily.
“Do you want to lay down, Star? Perhaps this time, you will have more pleasant dreams.”
Starscream nodded with a yawn, smiling.
“That sounds perfect , Skyfire. I’d love to.”
Starscream and Skyfire laid down in the berth, Starscream cuddling closer to Skyfire in an attempt to stay close to the bot he’d been missing for so long. Skyfire began petting Starscream’s wings again, soothing him. Starscream quickly fell asleep, though he tried to stay awake a bit longer.
Starscream woke alone.
He scrambled up, searching for Skyfire. He panickedly looked outside of his berth door, looking everywhere for a note.
“Skyfire? Skyfire, this is
not
funny!”
But he was only kidding himself. He knew that Skyfire would never up and leave him in the middle of the night. Not without a note or something to let Starscream know he had been there. Skyfire knew how much Starscream needed that reassurance. Starscream dropped to his knees, sobbing into his servos as he screamed to the heavens, begging to bring Skyfire back and cursing Primus for being so horrible and giving him such a pleasant moment, only to rip it away from him at the last second. He curled into a ball, pressing against the wall of his berth, sobbing and muttering.
“Bring him back…please…Primus, please….bring him back …”
Nothing happened.
