Summary:

It is Azure Day on The Xianzhou Luofu, meaning there is plenty of love and appreciation to go round. Between family, friendships, and relationships, there is no end to the joys of the holiday.

Chapter 1: Azure Day

Chapter Text

“What's with all the decorations?”

The question comes from March as the crew steps outside for another day of adventure.

The sight was hard to miss. A sea of blue across the city. As if it had appeared suddenly overnight. Blue ribbons swayed in the breeze while cynoglossums soaked up the sun.

“This is all for an important holiday coming up, Benefactors,” Tingyun answers," It's called Azure Day."

The Foxian steps forward to admire the swaying ribbons, touching them gently with her fingers.

“What's Azure day?” March says, tilting her head and copying Tingyun with other nearby decors.

Tingyun chuckles before turning to face the group.

“Azure Day is deeply engrained in Xianzhou history. It once was used to celebrate the legendary Azure Dragon. On this day people would sculpt or fashion glass into the likings of the honored one and make offerings. However, as the holiday was passed down through the generations, it gained a new meaning. The honor for the majestic beast began to fade with his disappearance. It was then replaced with a fresh take; our citizens collectively decided to make the holiday for those around them that they admire. The honor for one turned to all forms of love for all. For children, it became a good day to share your feelings with a crush. Friends might go on day trips or make plans to see a movie. Families make a grand dinner and do grand gatherings. Lovers go on dates and renew their vows of affection. But- regardless of where you stand in society- at the end of the day everyone comes together for the Azure Festival. In which all forms of love play festival games and watch a display of glorious azure fireworks."

Tingyung smiles as she ends her explanation. It was clear she had a passion for the holiday, herself.

“That sounds like fun!” March exclaims.

March now holds a passion for it all of a sudden, too. The pink-haired, ball of excitement turns to face the other two members of the group who had been listening silently.

"We should celebrate!"

The fox-eared lady chuckles to her excitement as the two blink at her simultaneously.

“I always wanted to spend Azure Day with someone. But I have yet to have the luck. I usually spend it with my coworkers."

“I’ll spend it with you!” March says, proudly.

Tingyun's eyes brightened at the suggestion, smiling wide,” Am I that important to you, Benefactors?”

“I think so! I mean, we are all friends here, no?”

“We are,” Tingyun agrees," If you truly want to embrace the holiday, March, there is a tradition to follow."

"What is it?"

March was fully invested. Anything to take a break from their grueling search for those Stellaron Hunters.

"Well. Though the holiday's meaning changed, the tradition of creating azure dragons never faded. To show appreciation to others, you must either make or purchase azure dragons for those you care for. And on that day, you offer it to them in hopes they will accept. If they do, it means the feelings are reciprocated."

“Little blue dragon? That sounds so cute! Mr. Yang let's go get some blue dragons!"

Welt, who had been quietly watching the conversation play out, smiles.

“It sounds like a pleasant holiday,” he joins in, "I remember celebrating something similar on my home planet.”

“You did, Mr. Yang?” March’s eyes sparkle,” Did you give someone a dragon?”

Welt adjusts his glasses,” Well. Not dragons. But perhaps chocolates or hearts."

"Hearts?" March echoes, clearly excited," Have you given someone a heart, Mr. Yang?"

"Do you have someone special?" Tingyun joins in.

"Yeah! Who's your lover, Mr. Yang?" March teases.

Welt blinks the attention now completely on him. Overwhelmed by the sudden bombardment of questions, the usually collected man begins to fluster.

"Oh well- I- It's not that easy to explain-"

"Where did you say we can buy blue dragons?"

Stelle, who had been quiet until then, joins the conversation.

She had been her little daydream until then, taking a moment longer to process Tingyun's words.

Would this be the first actual holiday she had seen during her time on The Express?

She read about various holidays in the data bank. She was disappointed when she found out she had just missed Belobog's Snow Day. After listening to the crew talk about the worlds they traveled to, Stelle quickly found herself jealous of casual mentions of grand events. The closest celebration she witnessed was Bronya's crowning. But she was far too tired to truly enjoy it.

Welt quietly sighs in relief as Tingyun and March turn to Stelle.

Tingyun points in the direction of a nearby stand. It already was forming a line of customers.

“You still have time to gift your blue dragon,” Tingyun says,” They are only setting up today. The holiday doesn't take place for another few days."

"Let's go get some!" March says, cheerfully.

"Hey, now-" Welt begins to interject, reaching out a hand toward his crew. But the pink-haired girl darted, dragging the gray-haired girl dragged along.

"We'll be back, Mr. Yang! Gotta make a quick run and then we'll be back on the hunt! I promise!"

Stelle lets March pull her along, Tingyun placing her arms behind her back as she joyfully follows the girls.

Azure Day, huh?

A day of love.

Stelle looks to Welt once more, who seems to stand, defeated. She then catches as a small smile forms on his face. He shakes his head, turning to go wait for them in the shade.

The day proceeded to be filled with progress and facing enemies. But those monsters were nothing compared to the battle she held inside her head.

Azure Day was all she could think about. The conversation they had still lingered in her head. So, when all the tasks of the day were complete, she found herself wandering back to the stand.

She had a decision to make then and there. And, with a surge of confidence, she stares up the shelves of blue dragons.

There are rapid knocks at Stelle's door.

The trailblazer, who had been sleeping until then, sits up straight in fright.

Did something happen?

She rushes to the door, sleep still evident in her eyes. But as she opens it, all aspects of panic disappear. March was standing there, tall and bright. A large smile was plastered on her face.

Stelle's worry turns to confusion as she stares at the girl.

When was the last time she had seen the girl smile before 8 a.m.?

“March?”

“Happy Azure Day!” she reaches out to put something in her hand.

Looking down, she catches sight of a little blue, glass dragon.

“Thank you,” Stelle chuckles.

Was it already today?

She stares at the pretty dragon in her palm a moment more.

“And I have a lot more!” March says,” Do you think we should save some for Himeko, Pom-Pom, and Dan Heng?”

Stelle smiles and nods.

"What about Mr. Yang?"

March suddenly pouts.

"I already knocked on his door but he wasn't there to accept. I, for one, am offended he isn't there to accept our renewed friendship. Even after all this time."

So he's not in his room?

Stelle finds herself starting to frown too.

“Good morning, Benefactors.”

Stelle and March turn their heads as Tingyun walks down the hall towards the ruckus.

“Tingyun!” March says, the pout disappearing instantly as she leaps down the hallway.

She sets another blue dragon in the Foxian's palm.

“For me?” Oh, March. Thank you. I accept your offer. Here. I have one for you both, too!"

"Aw, thank you, Tingyun! It's so cute!" March says as she accepts it.

She admires it a second longer, looking down at the little dragon in her hand. Almost as if she hadn't bought the whole booth from the number of them a few days prior.

Tingyun then hands out a second blue dragon to Stelle, smiling.

“Want to go to breakfast, Benefactors? They have special cuisine for a day like today. And all food is colored blue."

March nods rapidly,” Man, you guys have Azure Day thoroughly planned out. Though I prefer pink, I still want to take pictures!”

“Stelle?”

Stelle snaps out of her thoughts as she spaces out, watching the two converse.

“Oh. You two can go on ahead. I still got to get ready."

March frowns,” You sure? We can wait for you. You are supposed to spend today with people you care about.”

“Then I have a lot of people to visit in that case,” Stelle smiles, scratching the back of her head," I'll catch up later. I promise."

March pouts,” Ok. Well…We'll be just down the road at the diner. But if you can't make it, meet us at the festival tonight. I want to watch the fireworks with you.”

“Of course!” Stelle exclaims," Oh!"

She disappears briefly into her room before taking two small dragons from her nightstand and handing them to the pair, their eyes shining.

It made her wonder how his eyes would look later.

"Thank you, Stelle!" March says.

"I accept, Stelle," Tingyun repeats," We'll see you later, then."

“Bye!"

Stelle is left at her hotel door, watching the pair joyfully walk down the hall, already engrossed in conversation.

As they disappear, she closes the door to her room, leaning her forehead on the wood.

No, really. How would he react when she handed him her dragon? She looks back to her nightstand, with one dragon remaining.

She attempts to shake off her nerves with a shower.

But it doesn't seem to help.

She places a hand over her chest where her heart is beginning to flutter. Stelle wasn't one to normally experience nervousness. Nothing ever seemed to make her get those butterflies. Besides maybe when Pom-Pom caught her after accidentally breaking one of Himeko's tea cups. That was scary.

But somehow, this was scarier.

She manages to pick up the final dragon on her bedside table. And turning it in her hand, she sees all the intricacies of the glasswork. The way the blue colors swirled within the dragon. The detailed carvings of its scales and eyes. This one was bigger than the ones she's given and received.

She learned the significance of size when she visited Tingyun and March. It was explained by the Foxian as March immediately wanted to purchase a larger one that caught her eye. It had caught Stelle's too as she stared at the pretty work set high on the shelves.

"Small sizes are for friendships, medium sizes are for families, and large ones are for lovers. They all have their meanings but that's what it dwindles to."

"Aw, man. I wish someone gave me a big dragon."

"Me too," Tingyun laughs.

Stelle three.

But she simply stays silent as they proceed to buy a bunch of small dragons, March claiming she needs more for the future if she isn't able to make it back to the Loufu for another celebration.

Stelle researched later on her phone as to why the large ones were reserved for a more sincere partnership. Its size represented the burning passion stored within the core of one's heart. It can be given as a confession, deep proclamation of love, or renewed vow of devotion.

It was also double the price of the other choices.

But the large dragon seemed to call to her throughout the day. And she found herself caving.

Now, Stelle stands alone in her room, the dragon warming in her palm.

She smiles as she remembers the spark in both Tingyun and March's eyes as she hands off her gift.

Then she once again pictured him. But there was no telling how he would react. Did he know the significance of the size? Would he shame her for making such a big statement so suddenly? She never expressed these feelings before, after all. But for some reason, this gift seemed to take the load off of her discussing her feelings, which was always difficult to describe.

She closes her fingers around it and gently puts it in her pocket.

It takes everything for her to open the door of her room. And much more strength to walk down the hallway. Perhaps she should catch up with March and Tingyun. Leave this bigger matter for later.

But she stops as she walks past a certain door, turning to look at it.

It was his door. She wondered if he was in a heavy sleep. Or perhaps somewhere in the city. He did tend to wake up earlier than both her and March.

She seems to space out, imagining once more his reaction. She couldn't get enough of picturing it.

Oh, Stelle, you really shouldn't have.

Stelle, this is...unexpected.

You are too kind. But unfortunately I-

“Stelle?”

The voice was no longer something that haunted her head. It was real.

And it causes her to almost jump in her spot as she turns her head.

“Mr. Yang,” she smiles, softly.

“Why aren’t you with March and Tingyung? I ran into them as I was returning from my morning walk.”

Ah. So that’s where he was.

“About that…”

Stelle had confidence. Truly she did. All until two seconds ago, watching as he continued to walk towards her, cane in hand.

He looks between her and her door, wheels seeming to turn in his head.

“Did you need something?”

He adjusts his glasses, much closer to her now. His friendly aura was suddenly too overbearing. It never has felt that way before.

Perhaps because she had never planned to do anything about her feelings until this opportunity arose.

“I just wanted to say good morning. And..."

She can’t do it. Looking at him stare down at her made her butterflies flutter too intense. If she pushed her agenda any further, she was scared she might need a trash can. Not to admire this time.

“Happy Azure Day,” she finishes, handing out a dragon.

But what is revealed in her hand isn't what she wanted to give. It was a small one. March's. She was suddenly very glad she still had it on her.

Welt breathes a laugh through his nose, reaching out to accept the gift. There was a sparkle in his eyes like the other two. But the satisfaction Stelle received from it was nothing near enough.

“I accept. Thank you, Stelle. It's been a pleasure to have you as a member of the crew."

He sounded just like Tingyung. It must have been the customs in accepting the gift after all. Man, he was fast on picking up traditions. Maybe he wouldn’t be as clueless as she hoped if he had seen the much larger one that began to burn in her pocket.

“No problem, Mr. Yang,” she smiles.

He now reaches into his pocket and Stelle feels her heart flutter. What was he doing? Did he have one too? When did he get it?

But what he revealed in his palm was the same as hers. The size is small. And though she was over the moon he had remembered to get her one, she also felt her heart tear. Because that was all he saw her as.

Maybe this holiday was more brutal than what it sounded like on the surface.

Stelle swallows back her emotions as she accepts the gift.

"I accept. Thank you, Mr. Yang. You are always fun to journey with."

It took everything in her to not suddenly burst out in tears. Maybe she should just get rid of her dragon. It was a silly sentiment in the first place. Of course, he saw her as nothing more.

“Now. Go catch up with March. She was quite upset you aren’t joining her, Stelle,” he says, stepping past her and to his door.

Was he already going to retire for the day? The surge of emotions in Stelle's chest suddenly causes her to call out.

“Wait!”

Welt turns and looks at her, furrowing his brows.

“What about you, Mr. Yang?”

He chuckles, shaking his head,” I am too past my prime to be out and about. I already admired the beautiful decor. I think since it’s a holiday I’ll be happy in my room, drawing some sketches. You girls can go out and have fun."

“But what about adventure, Mr. Yang,” Stelle blurts out," Don't you want to experience it with us, too?"

Welt thinks for a moment and Stelle can feel her palms begin to sweat.

“Well. I am curious about the holiday. But I can’t invade your-”

“Please. Join us, Mr. Yang. We want you there. Besides, all the food is blue today!”

She didn’t need to say that. It was just a thought that had returned to her mind from an earlier conversation. And she was slightly hungry from the amount of energy she just spent on her failed attempt.

The man smiles, shifting his weight on his cane.

“Alright. I’ll join you guys for breakfast then.”

“Awesome!”

It still hurt. But as long as he is still around to experience today with her, she can come to accept it.

They proceed down the hall, Stelle hooking her arms behind her back.

They walk in silence. That seemed to be a theme whenever they were alone. Maybe a comment or two. But nothing ever stimulated conversation unless March was present. But Stelle was fine this way. She liked his silence. It was peaceful. And she was more thankful for it today. She needed the time to regroup from the internal disaster she was recovering from.

The holiday was already in full swing outside. Children run past them, playing tag. Older groups of friends laugh and chat nearby.

A child squeals happily as a father raises him in the air, a medium-sized dragon clutched tightly in his hand.

Stelle turns to look at Welt. But he had his eyes set on the father and son.

She blinks, seeing the fondness on his face. He had that same look when she had her first solo mission with him, helping Yukong and her daughter.

She had the slightest idea of the man's personal life. He doesn't talk much. But it was clear it was a touching moment for him.

Maybe he was a father, himself. Maybe he has a lifelong partner. What was his reaction again when March had asked if he had someone for his home planet's version of Azure Day?

Stelle looks away from him quickly as he catches her stare from the corner of her eye.

“I think they came here,” Stelle quickly says, staring off to a nearby restaurant.

She wasn't about to press him for a conversation she didn't know if she wanted to hear. Besides, what would she even say? Was that any of her business?

Maybe by being in the girls' presence, she can drown out these new thoughts.

He follows her inside. But as they looked around the cafe there was no sign of the talkative, pink-haired girl.

“Did they already leave?” Welt observes.

Stelle’s heart drops.

She is quick to pull up her chat log.

Stelle: Where did you go, March?

March: We just finished breakfast ^^

March: Now Tingyun is bringing me to a get-together with some of the other merchants!

Great.

Seeming to sense her dismay- but not knowing the extent- the man beside her chuckles.

“If you still desire blue food, I can treat you.”

Stelle's heart comes to a stop as Mr. Yang doesn't waste time to hail down a waiter.

“Oh...That's ok, Mr. Yang. We don't have to-"

“A table for two please,” he asks.

He then turns to give her a reassuring smile. That smile. That was one of the first things that got her when she joined The Express.

Maybe having breakfast with him won't be so bad.

Also, she would be a fool to deny food.

The pair are soon seated across each other at the table. Stelle looks over her menu at him as he contemplates his.

Why did he look particularly handsome today? Was it because of the lighting? Or maybe because of the way he furrowed his eyebrows in thought.

“They have a whole list of specials today,” Welt points out, pushing his glasses up the bridge of his nose without looking at her,” So many options to try.”

He seemed excited. Maybe that's what added to his appeal. It would be a miracle if Stelle did end up learning he was single.

His eyes meet hers all too suddenly. And she is quick to look down at the menu.

“What are you going to have?"

She begins to feel panic. She had been looking at him the whole time and not the menu.

She points at a random item and Welt leans forward to see her choice.

Was it normal to feel her heartbeat in her ears? Maybe the Stellaron inside her was beginning to act up. Totally not because she caught a strong whiff of his cologne.

“Sky Cakes and Berries,” he says out loud.

At least she chose something that sounded good. She nods, smiling.

The waiter approaches before Welt can say another word.

“What can I get the two of you this morning?”

“Two orders of the Sky Cakes and Berries, please,” Welt says, handing over the menus.

Wait. So this entire time he had been debating over what to get, he just so happened to choose the same thing?

"What you are getting sounds better than what I was thinking about," he says, answering her question before she can even ask," Besides. I'm interested in trying what you like."

Did he just say that? So he did this because of her?

"Interested in trying what I like?"

"Yes. It's not often I get to know you, Stelle. You have plenty of friends to hang around."

He wasn't wrong. Most of the topics they touched on have been about missions or facts. Nothing about them. And she did often finds herself in the company of others. Whether she knew her company well or not.

"Well...If that's so I also want to learn more about you, too, Mr. Yang."

He chuckles, folding his gloved and non-gloved hands in front of him.

"Alright. Then let's get to know each other."

Wait. Was he actually going to let her ask questions?

"Well...First I want to know what your initial breakfast choice was going to be."

He chuckles," It was the Cloudford Special. Something very similar to congee."

"Well. Then I should have gotten what you wanted. An even exchange."

"Perhaps. But maybe we can save that option next time, no?"

Next time.

Will there be a next time? Will March and Tingyun be joining them? Or will they be alone again?

The drinks are set before them. A special that came with their meals. It was blue. Of course.

Stelle smiles at the sight and Welt grins.

"Do you like blue, Stelle?"

"I like all colors," Stelle answers, sipping the liquid.

It was true. Stelle didn't necessarily have a favorite color. Any of them can be pretty. Especially Welt's eyes. But that isn't something she should disclose.

The drink had a fruity taste. But it was different than anything she tried before. Delicious. Perhaps a local fruit? It was always fun trying to figure out planet specialties.

She senses she's being stared at and looks up to Mr. Yang who chuckles.

"You seem to be deep in thought. Is it over the drink?"

"Yes. It's so good."

He reaches for his glass, sipping the liquid himself. But the way he keeps his eyes on her causes her lungs to cease.

"Very. I believe it's crystal berry."

"Crystal berry," Stelle repeats," Well I like it."

And you.

But Stelle doesn't voice this, instead taking another sip.

It felt strangely pleasing to have small talk with the man. But at the same time, she didn't know what else to say.

Stelle looks out the window at the various couples, friends, and families.

And then the thought returns.

If they truly are going to learn more about each other today...

"Mr. Yang?"

"Yes, Stelle?"

"Do you have a family?"

"I consider Astral Express as my family."

"No, Mr. Yang. For yourself."

This takes him longer to answer. And it kills Stelle to wait.

"Yes. I have a son."

"Do you have a dragon for him?"

He smiles. But it is somber. And Stelle immediately regrets asking.

"It would be nice. Yes. But I'm afraid I won't be seeing him any time soon."

"Oh," Stelle says, looking away.

"I miss him. But he's strong. Capable. I'm sure he would appreciate a dragon."

"What's his name?"

"Joffrey," he says.

"That's a cool name."

"It is," he says, cupping his drink.

It is silent once more. Crap. She pushed too far into his personal life. She must have made things awkward.

But as she opens her mouth to speak the food comes. And it felt like the right thing to do to stuff her face with breakfast instead.

Taking a bite out of her sky cake, she is once again impressed. Very good. Very blue.

"He probably would have liked these," Welt says, suddenly," Good choice."

The sad, distant look on his face was gone as he smiled.

Stelle, who didn't expect him to say something, continues to chew on her food. He patiently waits for her to swallow, taking another sip from his drink in the process.

"You should ask for their recipe for when you see him again. And then you can make them for him."

"That would be nice. But I am not necessarily the best cook."

"You can also give the recipe to your partner if they know how. Man, I'm sure you wish you were with them right now. Not some lousy trash diver."

He chuckles at this and Stelle feels herself shrink her seat. Oh no. Did she say that weirdly? She did, didn't she?

This was not really how she expected today to go. Finding out he had a son was something she had wondered in passing. But now that it is confirmed, she wanted to toss the dragon she still had off into space with the implications of a potential partner.

"Contrary to popular belief, I am not married."

"Oh."

Oh.

"So you're single, Mr. Yang?"

He sighs and nods. And then he spaces out, going on a small rant out loud.

"I am. Ya know. That seemed to be a popular rumor on my planet. 'Welt Yang is married.' But it's just not true. I have a friend who helps me raise Joffrey whom I've known for a long time. But that doesn't mean we are together."

A spike of jealousy stings Stellle right in her Steallron.

"Well, Mr. Yang...Do you like her?"

He blinks and looks at Stelle, seeming to come down from his spaced-out cloud. Oh no. The last thing she needs is for him to be suspicious of her feelings.

"I mean. If you look like you like her, people will continue to say stuff," she clarifies, quickly.

Welt lets out a breathy laugh.

"I don't see myself with her," he reaches up, scratching the back of his head," Then again. I don't really see myself with anyone."

"Why?"

"That's...complicated Stelle."

"I think you'd make a fine partner," Stelle says faster than she can reason.

His eyebrows raise.

"Really?"

"I mean. Look at you. You are very intelligent and ambitious. It would be fun to go anywhere with you. You know just about everything and aren't afraid to share little tidbits. Not to mention how strong you are. It is always a good trait to feel like you will be protected. And then you are also so kind and helpful. You go out of your way to help those around you. Who wouldn't want that? I can't see a single reason why anyone would reject you. You also are really handso-..."

Wait.

Her words fade, watching as Welt stared blankly at her.

Why did she say that out loud? She meant to just cheer him up a little.

He opens his mouth to speak and Stelle prepares herself for interpretation.

But the waiter seems to beat him to the punch.

Thank Aeons.

"Are you guys all set?" he smiles, staring down at the pair.

"Yes," Stelle says, quickly," Mr. Yang?"

"Oh...Yes. I am done as well."

Stelle doesn't even have time to see the bill as Welt takes the check, sliding in credits, and handing it back to the waiter.

Hey!

Stelle shoots him a look but he is already bowing his head to the waiter as he departs.

"Have a good day, you two!"

Once the waiter was out of sight, Welt began cleaning his area.

"How much do I owe you, Mr. Yang."

He kindly waves off her offer and uses his cane to stand.

Stelle only watches him, hand still in her wallet.

"Mr. Yang," she repeats.

"I said I would treat you. And you have plenty of adventures ahead to spend credits on. Let me cover this while I'm still allowed off The Express."

"But still," Stelle frowns, standing beside him.

She was short compared to him. And that difference is highlighted as he stares down at her.

"How about...You pay me back with a walk around the park. It's very beautiful and I wouldn't mind walking it again," he says," Besides, I like this little adventure we started. I still have more questions for you?"

A walk? More questions?

What about March and Tingyung?

Oh no, did this have to do with what she just said? She didn't reveal too much, did she? She might of. And that scared her.

Regardless, she'd rather not pass up the opportunity to spend more time with him. Alone. At least while she still could.

"What's one of your questions, Mr. Yang?"

He smiles and doesn't immediately answer, turning to walk to the door, holding it open.

She takes an extra moment before following him.

"Do you like cartoons, Stelle?"

He says as soon as she is out of the door.

"Cartoons?" Stelle thinks for a moment," Yes. I do. I would watch a lot of them on my time off in Belobog."

"That's good to know," he walks alongside her," You know. I used to work on cartoons."

"That's cool!" Stelle beams, partially glad the conversation from the diner was completely dropped.

"Indeed," he chuckles," Perhaps I can show you one of these days."

"It would be nice to watch them with you."

"Then it's settled. We'll watch it once we finish our business on the Luofu."

The thought made Stelle feel all fuzzy inside. Sitting next to Welt one of these days on The Express as he explains his animations. That sounded so fun. Like a date.

It's not a long walk to the park. And as they progress, the crowd gets thicker. The bustle of the town, separated the pair every now and again as they made their way through. It made Stelle both annoyed and grateful. Just in case he was to eventually ask about what she said in the diner.

And as she sets her eyes on the park, she stops.

Mr. Yang was right. It was gorgeous. Decorations scattered the trees. People were across the fields; friends playing hacky sacks and couples cuddling up on benches.

She runs ahead, staring at all the decorations hanging from the trees. All of the blue reflected the sun, casting a colored light on the ground. It couldn't have been any prettier. Like she had dived into the ocean. Or the sky.

Her eyes then catch the kites flying high in the air. They were all shapes and sizes, gliding together through the wind.

"You like kites, Stelle?"

She almost jumps, turning to Welt. When did he catch up?

"I do. They are really pretty."

"Want to fly one?"

"I would like that! But where would we-"

She turns to him, seeing his eyes weren't on her. She follows them to a nearby stand, watching as a worker passes a kite to a group of friends.

Moments later, she also had a kite in her hands, playing with the edges of the soft blue fabric.

She should have thought this through. This was embarrassing.

'What's wrong?"

"Well...I don't really know how to get one of these in the air."

He chuckles and soon she is under his instruction. She found his hand gestures very cute as he got into assisting.

"First, you face away from the wind," he says," Then you hold it by its bridle...Not quite that. It's the strings attached to the kite itself. No not that either- Perfect! Now hold it up to catch the wind, let out some string, and...let go!"

Stelle follows each step, only embarrassing herself slightly in the process. Regardless, she manages to get the kite in the air.

She stares up at it, her eyes sparkling.

That went way better than she thought.

"Woah. I did it, Mr. Yang!"

"You did. I had no doubts."

His voice was much closer now, standing right beside her as he stared up to watch it sail.

She turns to face him, his features highlighted by the sun. His hair moves with the wind, and she can't help but catch how happy he looks. His chest was puffed out with pride. And his arms were tied behind his back.

"There is a law on my planet that defines this phenomenon. You see. Once the the kite is out of your hands it must overcome the forces of gravity trying to bring the kite back down. To stay in the air the force of thrust, otherwise known as push, must be equal to the force of drag, otherwise known as pull. The wind is the superhero in this situation that keeps it in the sky. That and the skill of the person holding their kite."

Stelle finds herself laughing quietly at his spiel. And when he turns to look at her, their gazes meet. Stelle stops giggling.

"This probably would be a lot more fun for you if March and Dan Heng were here."

"No!" she immediately refuses," I am having a great time with you."

He chuckles. She finds herself staring into his eyes a lot longer than she should. Maybe that's her favorite color. Brown. But specifically his brown. That amber color. They seemed to stare so gently at her.

"Didn't you want to go back and draw, Mr. Yang?"

“That was the case, yes. Until breakfast fueled me. And good company."

He didn't make this any better, staring back at her. He then happily smiles, his eyes squinting as the corners of his lips heighten.

"I'm afraid that the ambitious side of me can't resist enjoying it just a little longer."

Stelle feels a surge of warmth through her. Why did he say it like that?

Was he referencing their conversation earlier? There was no way.

"Well it's good to embrace your ambitious side," Stelle settles on her response.

He grins, shifting his weight upon his cane, opening his mouth to answer.

She loved the way his lips formed words. She shifts her eyes to them, but she doesn't have time to process how handsome he looks. A small cry sounds from nearby.

He suddenly stands straight as if he didn't need the support at all.

And they both turn to the source of the yelp.

It was Stelle's kite, landing directly between a cuddling couple.

"Uh oh," Stelle says, letting go of the string.

The woman shoots her a death glare and not knowing any better, a burst of adrenaline, rushes through Stelle. She never wanted to run. But right now her feet decided to, rush away from the situation.

"Wait, Stelle-"

Was the girl really that intimidating? Or perhaps it's the look he gave her. Or what he said. She didn't know. She was sick of wanting to know.

She suddenly slows, coming to a stop out of eyeshot of the girl and her boyfriend. Only to turn her head to see Welt beside her, also breathing heavily. She jumps, not expecting to see him at all.

Did he...chase her?

The thought was funny to imagine. The man waved an apology before bolting after her through the park. She did run pretty fast.

"...It looks like my thrust did not equal my drag."

She prepares him to shame her but instead, he laughs, shaking his head.

"It appears not," he says, leaning back on his cane.

Stelle starts laughing. She can't help it.

All of this seemed too fake to be real.

It had only just hit noon and here she was, leaning against a tree catching her breath with the most responsible of the crew.

Welt also finds himself beginning to laugh.

And they begin to echo off of each other, laughing at the situation.

And for Stelle, it was a good way of letting out the emotions that were eating away at her heart.

Anyone passing most likely would think they were insane. But they had not a care in the world.

"You ran after me?"

"I did," he breathes out between a laugh.

This only causes Stelle to laugh more.

"Why?"

"I don't know. Maybe it was my

Her heart flutters. She didn't know Welt could be this fun. Well, she did. But not this type.

"You aren't going to make me apologize?"

"No. Why would I do that?"

"I don't know," Stelle finally can control her laughter, stopping because it was starting to hurt," Maybe because you're a dad."

Welt lets out a few more chuckles before he, too, stops.

"But I'm not your father."

It was...really...really hard to hide a grin.

"You don't see me as your father, do you?" he suddenly asks with her lack of response.

Why did he look worried?

"No!" Stelle waves her hands," No I don't."

He shifts his weight from his cane, seeming to smile in relief. Relief? Ok. That makes sense. He wants to be her friend. They're friends.

He suddenly leans against the tree, resting beside her. Her heart begins to pound.

"When I was a boy," Welt starts," I used to pull pranks now and again. Sometimes it would lead to disaster. But running just now...Made me feel that rush of joy again. Childish joy."

She turns to look at him. He was smiling wide at her, his eyes creasing.

"Well I'm glad you are feeling boyish," Stelle smiles," You look so happy."

She wanted to say how cute he looked right now. Truly. But then she realized that this, in fact, wasn't a date. And they just so happened to get paired up on their search for Tingyun and March.

She forces herself to look away from him, trying to hide the blush forming on her face. She had to conceal herself. She already had said too much at breakfast. At this point, she didn't want to ruin their day by revealing even more about how she felt about him.

She was having fun. An accidental confession would ruin that.

Her eyes drift across the park to distract her mind from her invasive thoughts, catching a line of people forming near a dock.

Her eyes followed it to the front with a large banner hung above.

Starskiff Joyride.

No way. Do they fly those cool ships for fun?

"Are you up for another rush of adrenaline?" Stelle says.

Welt shoots his head in her direction at the sudden question. But then he catches sight of the banner as well.

“Oh, Stelle. I can’t. I-”

“Please, Mr. Yang,” she pouts, giving her best puppy eyes.

“No seriously I-”

“Please,” she repeats once more," I thought you liked feeling like a kid again."

He chuckles, shaking his head.

“Alright, alright. I’ll try it. But don’t be surprised if you give this poor man a heart attack,” he grins, pushing himself off the tree.

“You don’t look that old!” she proclaims,” Plus. I’ve seen how you battle. You can handle a little ride.”

"We’ll see,” he smiles," But if I need a hospital by the end, you are to take the blame."

"Ok!" Stelle exclaims, rushing to get into the line.

And as Welt joins her, Stelle finds that she is becoming happier by the second.

"I think we've had enough time for the food to settle," Welt murmurs beside her.

"What are you trying to say, Mr. Yang?"

"Do you know the dangers of riding something after eating?"

Stelle stares at him blankly, with no clue what he is talking about.

He seems to calculate something in his head.

"...We'll be fine."

Stelle nods and looks forward. All she could think about was how he would react. What he would do?

She already seems to be seeing a new side to him. Can she push for more?

She watches as a Starskiff returns, a group of friends stepping off and pushing each other around. Maybe Welt will bonk her in the head with his cane once the ride is done.

The thought was nice. And the line moved faster than she thought.

Soon she found herself buckling up, the pilot listing the rules and cautions of their flight.

“Oh, Stelle. What did you get me into,” Mr. Yang chuckles, quietly.

He seems to be doing that a lot today. Laughing. The sound was so sweet. Like nectar. She didn’t want him to stop.

"It's an adventure," Stelle says, proudly.

The pair look at one another as the countdown begins. And Stelle notices something different about the man beside her. She can’t quite put her finger on it.

She doesn't have time to think. The ship launches forward, causing her to fall flush against her seat.

Her body rushes with chemicals as she is propelled, gripping her seat tightly.

She wants to scream but nothing comes out. Nor can she turn to see the expression on Welt’s face. She wishes she could.

And then she feels the ship begins to do flips in the sky. Her entire body was awake, seeming to knock all other thoughts out of sight.

Man. This was intense.

But she was happy. So happy.

She suddenly could hear Welt laugh beside her and she was able to turn her head to see a wide smile on his face. He was enthralled. Her heart warms.

And seeming to catch her stare, he turns to look back.

But then they both grip their seats as the pilot changes pace, maneuvering like a bug that's avoiding a swatting.

“Are we gonna crash? I think we are gonna crash,” Stelle suddenly inquires.

“You’re fine, Stelle,” Welt responds, his smile present in his voice.

“I don’t think I can- ah!”

She squeals as they do yet another dive.

There is a deep chuckle followed by a warm grasp over her whitening fingers.

She immediately wants to melt. Her eyes fall on Mr. Yang’s hand over hers.

For a second, the ride seems to stop. The world comes to a halt.

“Relax, Stelle,” he was laughing,” You're ok. I promise.”

Her cheeks redden but she manages to shift her hand, meeting his palm with hers. He squeezes.

And everything suddenly is full force once more, Stelle squealing once more.

“You two good back there?” the pilot checks in.

“Yes!” Stelle exclaims, head hazy from the fact she is currently holding the older man's hand.

“Alright! Hold on, then!” the pilot says before doing more tricks.

Spins. A bunch of them. Aeons. Her Stellaron was going to awaken at this pace. Luckily she had the man who could stop it next to her.

Those laughs of his alone kept her cool.

And soon the pair feel the ride grow less intense as it begins to head back to the port.

The spins were done, but Stelle only felt her as if the ride had just begun by the way Welt's thumb began to absent-mindedly caress the back of hers. Was he consciously doing that? He seemed to be set on the outdoors, looking off in the clouds.

Maybe he was at peace.

Stelle couldn't tell.

But either way, she didn't want him to stop, dreading as they stopped at the port.

“Well how was it?” the pilot says.

“Brilliant job,” Welt immediately answers," Absolutely brilliant."

Welt doesn't let go of Stelle's hand. But he uses his free one to reach into his pocket.

Was he going to pay for this too?

Stelle opens her mouth to protest.

"The rest is a tip," Welt smiles, already setting the payment in the pilot's hand.

The pilot looks grateful as they stare down at the credits handed to him.

"Have a Happy Azure Day, you two,” the pilot smiles," It is always nice when a couple stays happy after the ride finishes."

His eyes drift down to their interlocked fingers.

Couple?

Stelle's face flushes.

Oh no. Was Stelle leaving the wrong impressions? She didn't even think about that. She attempts to free her hand but Mr. Yang doesn’t seem to get the memo. He keeps his fingers sealed around hers.

“You too, sir,” Welt answers, before helping the young trailblazer off the Starskiff.

As she stands, she catches a grin on his face. It's brief but she can see it clear as day. Did he find the pilot's comment amusing?

Their hand-holding doesn't last after that, Welt patting at her hand and loosening his fingers.

Wait. She wanted to hold him a little bit longer. Just a few more moments.

But she doesn't say a word as they make they let the next couple on. Stelle envied the way the pair gripped so easily to each other's hands so easily.

She stares down at her hand, hoping it would manifest his return.

Something she had set aside in her pocket began to burn her soul.

That's right. The dragon.

Does she want to give this to him? She promised she didn't want to ruin the day. But with everything unfolding, it was getting difficult to keep it concealed.

"Thank you for taking me on a ride. Being with you today has been such a thrill."

Stelle looks up from her hand and gives a soft smile.

"See. No hospital visits."

"Fortunately not," he grins at her," For now at least."

"Oh please. You're tough. You won't be seeing a hospital any time soon."

"You don't seem to understand how old I am, dear."

Stelle's heart flutters. He just called her dear, did he not? Was her mind playing tricks on her? Then again. They were both joking around. She definitely is thinking too deeply into this.

“You kept laughing during the ride, Mr. Yang. What was so funny.”

He chuckles as seems to recall why in his mind.

“It's just...you begged to go on the ride. Practically dragging me to it. Only to end up screaming with every flip. I thought was funny. A courageous member of our team falling victim to a Starskiff.”

“Mr. Yang,” Stelle puts her arms on her sides,” Are you doubting my abilities?”

“Not at all,” he waves his hand, chuckling,” I just think it’s very...Stelle of you.”

Very Stelle of her? What does that mean?

She doesn’t get a chance to answer as he spins on his heels to face her.

She almost walks right into him, too deep in her own head.

Only then does she notice her surroundings as she stops in her spot? They had once again entered the park, in the shade of large trees. Its trees hung low, practically engulfing them in their own little world. No one was around but them and some decorations that had invaded the tree's canopy.

"What's next?" he says, eagerly.

Stelle swallows at his closeness.

"What's next? Surely you want to retire to your room now."

"Surely, we can't end the day now."

That ride must have fired some type of chemical in him. His entire stature had changed, leaning toward her.

"Well...There are a lot of things."

"A lot of things," he repeats," What would those things be?"

Stelle's eyes fall on his lips. She couldn't help it. They were right in front of her. They looked soft. A poison she almost couldn't resist.

Maybe kissing can be one of those things.

She could. He was close enough. No one was around. Part of her wanted to see his reaction. Would he be as eager for it?

What type of kisser was Welt Yang? Was he slow and sensual? Or perhaps more energetic? Stelle couldn't tell anymore. There were too many sides of this man.

Wait. Why was that the thought that came to mind? Was she insane?

But she can't stop staring at his smiling lips. They were plump. Tempting.

"Well...There is something that I've been wanting to try for a while now," Stelle says, almost in a trance.

"Oh? Please share," Welt says.

He seems to get closer. Was it because he was that eager to hear what they were to do next? Or perhaps...

Oh, Aeons. What was happening?

His eyes seemed to be telling her something. Something her mind couldn't immediately process. Maybe she was seeing things. But they seem to spark, coming alive with a blaze that heats her body.

"Should I?" Stelle finds herself almost melting in her spot.

"You should. I'm sure to enjoy hearing your thoughts."

"But you don't know what I'm going to say."

"Maybe not. But perhaps I can guess."

Their lips were inches apart. Somehow. When did that happen? Stelle couldn't wrap her mind around anything. Maybe this was his post-Starskiff adrenaline. Yes. That had to be it. They were both high after blood had rushed to their brains after doing one too many flips.

The trees swirl around them, the wind pushing his scent towards her. It was a woody smell. Perhaps sandalwood. She remembers going over the cologne smells with March and Dan back on Belobog. No wonder why that smell was so potent to Stelle. Aeons. He enchanted her without a word, swooping her up in his world.

Buzz.

They both jump in their spot.

Stelle was so far gone she almost didn't realize it was her phone.

Her phone. March.

Right. That’s who she was supposed to be meeting with.

"That must be March," Stelle says, quickly stepping back and going on her phone.

"Of course," Welt blinks, the fire in his eyes disappearing.

He steps away, tapping the bark of the tree with the tip of his cane.

March: Are we still meeting at the festival?

March: *Pom-Pom Smiling Emoji*

Stelle: Yes

March: Good! The festival should have started by now

March: Head over and Tingyun and I will meet you

March: We'll play some games, eat some festival foods, and enjoy the fireworks!

Stelle: Sounds good

Earlier Stelle would have loved this text. But right now, she wished it hadn't interrupted...whatever that was.

She looks up to see Welt kneeling by something crawling on the ground. It inched its way forward, almost looking like a noddle. He was so damn adorable.

“She said to meet her at the festival. Tingyun and her are on their way."

“Then let's go," Welt smiles back, rising and taking hold of his cane.

Regrettably, she finds herself stepping out of the little sanctuary they were in.

Maybe she had seen the situation entirely wrong. There was no way anything could have happened. Her self-denial seemed to cloud her mind for a moment. She can't think too much. She needs to enjoy the rest of her day.

Nothing happened. That was that.

It isn't long to get to the festival grounds, and crowds of people are already there.

The smells of food overcome her. Bright blue lights scattered stands. From little mini-games to little markets, it all overstimulated her senses as she looked every which way. Meanwhile, Welt casually glanced from one spot to another, casually walking beside her.

No sign of March and Tingyun yet.

Stelle suddenly catches her sights on an arcade game, watching as a woman points to a plush hung on the stand. The man beside her smiles, seeming to say something and throwing the ball. He hits the bottles square on. Each one. And soon, that plush she was pointing at was in her hand.

Welt stops, turning to look at her. And then his eyes drift to the stand as the pair walk off and leave it open.

“Do you like fair games, Stelle?”

Stelle blinks, so caught in the trance of the couple.

"I never really seen one before."

Welt gives her a soft look before turning back to the stand.

"Well. Then let's change that."

“Sure!"

Once again, Welt refused to let her pay. This seemed to be the trend for today. And she puts her hands on her hips.

"You gotta stop doing that!"

"Well now that I have, you better make my credits worth it," Welt smiles.

His eyes turn to the balls placed before her.

Suddenly this felt like so much more pressure.

But she spins her arm as if practicing to swing her bat.

The objective was to knock over all the pins with each ball. Even if one is missed, no prize is won.

She can do this. The last guy did, after all. And she was a trailblazer. A piece of cake, right?

She winds her arm back and feels satisfaction as the first gets knocked over.

“Nice, Stelle,” she hears from behind.

She tries to cover the heating of her ears as she picks up the next ball.

“Thanks. I’m a natural, you know,” she says, throwing the next one.

Once again, the pin falls.

Her confidence grows as she hears a whistle. He was always good at supporting the crew. But it felt like another level as she felt it course through her veins. She could never hear the end of his praises.

She wants to hear more, knocking down several more pins.

“Four down on the first try,” the stand owner says, amused,” Impressive. Two more.”

Stelle grins. That plushie will be hers in no time. And maybe more praise.

She knocks another pin down, celebrating in her head.

“Alright, Mr. Yang,” she says, tossing the last ball in the air and catching it,” You ready for this.”

“Very ready,” he confirms,” But remember to stay focused, Stelle.”

“Don’t worry. I’m laser-focused,” she boasts, before winding up her arm.

If she gets this, she will confess tonight. She'll give the dragon to him right now.

The ball leaves her hand on a perfect projection. Perfectly angled. She smiles wide, turning to face Welt.

She watches as a smile spreads on his face, his teeth showing.

“I know. I’m just that good."

She reaches into her pocket.

“Stelle,” he chuckles,” Turn around.”

She blinks. Slowly turning back, she finds the pin still standing tall. Wait. How?

She drops her hands to her sides.

"I'm still very impressed," he attempts to comfort her.

But she didn't want pity praises.

All her dignity was gone. She ruined it.

And to think if she got the last one she would give him the dragon on sight. Maybe this was a sign.

“Here. Let me play a round,” Welt says, handing over more credits.

Stelle blinks, watching him fork over even more credits. He then takes her spot.

“You are going to do it, Mr. Yang?”

“I need to avenge you,” he says, seeming to map out the scene before him.

He takes a deep breath before throwing his first ball. It moves so fast she almost doesn't see as it hits the pin.

All she can hear is a slam.

What?

“Oops,” Welt says with an awkward laugh,” Got too excited I suppose. I haven't thrown something in a while. I’m sorry. I’ll be more careful.”

The girl behind the stand nods but she steps back as he prepares his next throw. Just in case.

He is so elegant as prepares it. And Stelle was eager to see him throw it this time. Maybe she can use it to better herself.

She watches as the ball leaves his hand once again. And again. But she can never connect how the ball flies faster than she would think.

He looks at her as he holds the last ball in hand. He grins as he catches her intense stare.

“Watch closely, Stelle.”

Stelle blinks. Was he talking to her? Had he ever been this cocky?

The ball leaves his hand, projecting perfectly at the pin. And when the pin is smacked off the stand, he turns and smiles at her proudly.

“Wow, Mr. Yang,” she smiles, “You won!”

She couldn’t help it. She was a little jealous. And embarrassed. She should be the one impressing him. Not the other way around.

He smiles wide, looking up at the array of plushies.

“See any you like, Stelle?”

"You can decide what your prize is, Mr. Yang."

"But what if my prize is a present?"

"Then...I think whoever gets it would very much like that one."

She points at a small plush, themed blue for the holiday. Diting. She always loved that little dog.

“Then that is the one I would like,” he smiles at the stand owner.

The owner nods, smiling as she grabs the stuffed Diting from its stand, handing it to Welt.

And Welt turns to hand it to Stelle.

She feels her cheeks flush as she bows with acceptance. She turns to look down at the plush. And then remembers the happy couple from earlier. If someone was watching them right now, is that what they would see? Like the pilot?

"Mr. Yang...You really are-"

"Hey!"

-a charmer.

Stelle blinks, the words never leaving her mouth. She turns to a familiar pink-haired girl jogging towards them, followed by a young Foxian.

"Hello March and Tingyun," Welt greets them.

"Omg!! You got a prize!" March says, immediately spotting the Diting.

"Yes. Mr. Yang won it."

March gasps," Mr. Yang. Can you win one for me too?"

Welt blinks," Well I can try. But I don't know how good my luck is."

"Please, Mr. Yang?" March begs, pushing him near the stand once more.

The stand owner looks up to Welt's return and the pair exchange an awkward smile.

"Stelle," Tingyun says.

Stelle turns to the girl who remained a little distance away from the stand. She joins her and they both watch the other Astral Express members try the game again.

"How do you like Azure Day so far?" the Foxian asks.

In the background, March is encouraging poor Welt as he picks up his first ball.

Stelle laughs, watching him a moment before looking down at her Diting.

"I had a good time."

"Wonderful," Tingyun smiles, gleefully.

She hadn't missed the way Stelle's eyes sparkled as she smiled fondly at her Diting. She had seen their interaction a mile away before March ran forward.

"Well, it's not over yet. You still have a lot more time to spend with him," Tingyun says, winking at Stelle," There are many more traditions for couples I can share with you>"

Stelle blinks," What do you mean?'

Behind them, March begins to jump and down, becoming Mr. Yang's cheerleader for the last few balls.

"What I mean is that," Tingyun says, looking between her and Welt," Azure Day has a lot of uses. I just want to make sure you are utilizing it however you can."

Does she know? Stelle looks down at her Diting.

"Do I make it that obvious?"

"Is making it obvious a bad thing? You guys are cute together. Unless you are trying to hide it from March. Oh, if that's the case I promise I won't say a word."

Woah wait. Stelle feels her face heat.

"Oh, we aren't together."

Now Tingyun looked confused," What?"

"Yay!" March says, jumping up and down Mr. Yang once again knocks down the last pin.

Both Tingyun and Stelle turn to watch as March hugs her new stuffed animal: an origami crane.

Behind her, Mr. Yang adjusts his glasses and shakes his head.

"Look, Stelle! Isn't Mr. Yang awesome!"

More than he'll ever know.

"He sure is," Stelle smiles straight at him, causing him to smile back

Tingyung looks between them and then shakes her head.

"Come along, Benefactors. There are so many other things I want to show you before the fireworks begin."

For the next few hours, they sample foods as the sky begins to darken. Tingyun explains the history of each cuisine. Stelle even got to try crystal berry juice again. There were a couple of times she caught Mr. Yang's stare as they traveled. But she always brushed it off as a coincidence.

The sunlight was now replaced with blue fires. And as they flickered, the festival shined azure. It was pretty. And all the members of the Astral Express crew were blown away. March snapped a picture with her camera.

Tingyun was quick to find them a seat by the fireworks, the display being as immaculate as promised. After getting rugs, the Foxian is quick to grab March. It left Welt and Stelle on another.

Stelle had her suspicions as to the girl doing this on purpose. But she'd rather not think about it, staring up at the sky.

The first pop of fire explodes and all attention turns up to the sky.

Stelle lays back on her hands to admire the view. But in the process, her fingers touch Welt's. At first, she attempts to move them away. However ut without even looking at her, his fingers curl around hers.

And she feels as if a firework had gone off in the cavity of her chest.

This wasn't the same situation as the Starskiff. And there was no explanation for it like under the trees.

Or maybe he was just that blown away by the sight. No. It can't be.

And as March turns back to smile at Stelle, she smiles back with a mixture of feelings brewing inside her.

Tingyun catches March's attention, pointing up at the sky.

And as soon as she looks away, Stelle hears a deep voice beside her.

"Isn't it pretty?"

Welt has leaned to her, talking in her ear.

She turns beat red, not able to conceal it. Good thing it was extremely dark out. And maybe the blue tint of the world will hide the hue in her face.

"Very," she says.

"I've been on many planets. And all of them seem to treasure this simple phenomenon," he continues," Do you know how a firework is created? It's a universal chemical reaction. The gunpowder packed into the firework ignites with a spark. And with the pressure and heat building up inside, the shell can no longer serve its purpose. Then the stars distribute, color-coded by chemical compounds. It sends beautiful colors into the air, allowing for viewers to admire the sight from far and wide. Brilliant blues. Dazzling reds. And to think it all starts with a tiny spark."

Stelle turns her head to look at him, almost forgetting he had only been inches away to whisper all of this.

He grins as their eyes meet, their noses brushing. Stelle loses her breath as she looks at him. Another azure firework explodes in the air, lighting up his face momentarily.

Damn.

He was so handsome earlier, then charming. And now. He was pretty. Prettier than the fireworks that continued to explode above.

The world seemed to shut down around them. Everyone else is either too focused on the sky or their partner.

"The reason I bring this up is-"

Applause.

It echoes throughout the field.

And Stelle quickly jerks her hand from his, applauding with the rest.

She regretted letting go of his hand. But now March was staring back at them, clueless on how close they had been moments before. Stelle claps louder to try to drown her thoughts.

But even that begins to die down.

And just like that, Azure Day was over.
