Work Text:
"Peter," His gentle voice stopped him from raising the sword any higher to strike the servant who dared to arrest the messiah. "Put your sword back in its place," Jesus said to him, "for all who draw the sword will die by the sword."
Even in His darkest moment, Jesus was still teaching him. A worthless apostle like him, deemed by the savior to be worth teaching; to be worth saving from himself.
Peter turned to face him, "If it means that you, my Lord, may live to see another sunrise-" he remembers seeing Jesus, teary-eyed with sadness and acceptance, "-Then I will gladly be your blade."
Jesus cries out, "No, don't!" His pleas fell on deaf ears. His outstretched hand never met the apostle's dirtied robes.
Peter, the ever faithful servant, would disobey his master just this once. If He can escape, it would be worth it. If Jesus could walk the earth for one more day, teach one more soul, and speak one more proverb, it would have been worth it.
Raising his sword, the mortal condemned himself to an eternity in hell.
If a useless man like him...
Can guarantee that his beloved can see another day,
His life, his entire existence, would finally have meaning.
