Work Text:

Wind brushed through Scar's hair, rustling it like it rustled the leaves on the trees surrounding the quaint little area him, Grian, and Mumbo had decided to place their bases.

He had sat himself on the bridge connecting Grian's rocks to Mumbo's vault, careful to not accidentally fall into the hole that Grian had not yet repaired. It was a quiet day, sure, distant sound of rockets filled his ears occasionally, but besides that, it was simply a quiet day, If he tried hard enough, he could hear birds chirping.

The sun caressed his face lovingly, brightening his skin, putting every inch of his face on display, scars and all, like he was something of a beautiful piece of treasure.

He ran his hands along the grooves of the rock beneath him, hands twitching of the slight ticklish feeling the moss left as he ran his fingers along it.

It was a warm day, and he hadn't particularly felt like building, so what was a better way to spend his day than to sit in his own solitude? Sure, it sounded sad, but he enjoyed little peaceful moments by himself, no matter how much he enjoyed quality time with the ones he cared about, he cares about himself aswell, so that includes spending time with himself.

Closing his eyes, he decided to ignore the sound of rockets (which sounded closer than he thought..) being shot throughout the sky, rather focusing on the sound of running water and the way the wind whistled a quiet song throughout the afternoon sky.

Ignoring the quiet snickering and the sound of a very familiar pair of wings flapping, he let a slight smile appear on his face as the wind seemingly whispered something to him, the translation being lost across his hair as the wind pushed it to the side.

He ignored the oncoming footsteps, but he couldn't ignore the voice extremely close to his ear.

" Hi Scar !" An extremely familiar raised voice bounced throughout his ears.

Scar jumped, hard, he almost lost his footing as he shrieked, hands gripping the edge of the bridge with such might he thought he would dislocate his knuckles.

A cackle flew throughout the air, the wind carrying it with it.

Scar breathed for a moment, putting his hand on his chest as he turned his head towards the dirty blonde haired boy in front of him, still laughing at the shriek he had let out.

" Oh , oh you scared me!" He sighed, a warm smile lingering on his face, a smile he somehow had whenever he was with Grian, or even just staring at him.

Multiple people had called him out on the way he looked at Grian. Scar didn't think he looked at him any differently than anyone else.

Grian let out a sigh before calming down, giggles still lingering in his speech.

"You should've- You should've seen your face." He reached his hands up to wipe at his eyes, and Scar let out a huff.

"Well I think my face probably looked really dashing, thank you very much." He replied, putting his hands on his hips, tilting his head up slightly.

Grian let out a huff, walking over to the spot to the right of Scar and sitting down, and well, maybe some company wouldn't be too bad.

Grian's wings were displayed out behind him, a beautiful portrait of colors, and he couldn't seem to move his eyes away from the way the sun hit his feathers, displaying a golden sheen over the feathers.

"Yeah, yeah, are you enjoying yourself? I've been all over the server looking for you." He asked, effectively getting Scar out of the clouds, staring at him with an eyebrow raised.

Scar shook his head a little, staring back at him. Grian's hair was illuminated by the golden rays of the sun, and you could see every each individual freckle on his sun-kissed cheeks, a tan he had developed by being outside all the time, the tiny wings in place of his ears rustled as the wind flew inbetween the feathers.

God, he was gorgeous.

"..What?" He asked, a smile still apparent on his face.

Grian's face displayed slight annoyance as he kept staring into his eyes.

"I asked if you were enjoying yourself, I've been looking for you." He repeated, turning his head to stare into the distance, side view fully in Scar's line of sight.

Scar hummed. "I'd like to think i've been enjoying myself!"

"Yeah?"

Scar hummed again, and he tried to ignore the huff of fond air that Grian had let out, but deep down he knows he could never ignore anything Grian did, he was too entranced.

After a few moments with silence, birds chirping and wind whistling, clothes ruffling and water running, Grian finally spoke up, slight hesitance lingering in his voice.

"..Has anyone told you that you're really pretty?"

. . . .

What?

Scar turned his head to face Grian, only to come to the surprise that he was already looking at him with a fond look on his face, yet flushed and looked away once he realized Scar was staring back. He was facing away from him now, the one hand Scar could see clenching up in a fist.

Scar smiled, the same stupid warm smile he somehow always wore while talking to Grian that he couldn't seem to get rid of.

"You think I'm pretty, G?" He teased, a slight tilt to his voice.

Grian ducked his head more, turning his head to face the distant Scarland. His side view was as gorgeous as his front view, and as he stared at the sun-kissed cheeks, all he could wonder was what it would be like to kiss them aswell.

"Don't tease me like that.." Grian drew out, reaching up with his hands and resting his face in them, bringing his knees up to his chest, wings curling around him slightly, like he wanted to crawl up in a ball and disappear.

Scar brought one of his knees to his chest, resting a hand on Grian's shoulder, tilting his head closer to Grian's face so he could see the smidge of his face that wasn't in hiding.

"No please don't be upset, I think it's sweet! Promise!" He swore, giggles still laced throughout his voice, a warm tilt to it.

"If it makes you feel any better.. I'd say you're very pretty too."

Hesitantly, Grian peeked an eye through his fingers, the tips of his fingers curling on his skin, he stared at him for a few seconds before letting out a meek, "Really?"

Scar nodded, staring at him with a smile plastered across his face. "Really! In fact, I think you're the prettiest boy I know."

That got Grian out of hiding behind his wings, a look of hesitance on his face, mixed with badly hidden happiness, cheeks a pretty pink color. He opened his mouth to say something before ultimately groaning. "I don't know.."

"You don't know what, you don't know that you're the prettiest ever?" Scar teased, raising an eyebrow. He let go of Grian's shoulder to poke his cheek a few times, electing a quiet laugh from the other.

"Stop teasing me! You suck!" He said with a smile in his voice, laughing as Scar kept poking his face.

"No, no, please go on, what were you saying about me being pretty, G?" Scar asked with a joking tone, like he wasn't actually expecting him to honestly respond.

Grian huffed. "Well now it's just embarrassing.."

Scar frowned at that, his friend should never be embarrassed with what he thinks! He lowered his hand to rest on top Grian's the other staring at their hands, like he thought looking away would make the hand on top of his disappear forever, which was a silly thought.

"Well I don't think what you think is embarrassing, so please, tell me more."

After a beat he added, " Please ?"

Grian paused, lifting up his head while also lifting his hand to grab Scar's, intertwining their fingers, and Scar had to ignore the way his heart skipped a beat and the way his heart fluttered like it had grew wings and wanted to fly its way out of his mouth.

"Well.."

He paused again.

"It's just--" A sigh and a huff.

"Everything about you is so pretty, the way you kept your hair slightly long, even when it gets in the way of building, your eyes, the way they look almost ethereal in the sun, the fact you still wear that jumper I gave you a while back whenever you're wearing something comfortable, the way your voice sounds whenever you're talking to someone, the scars on you are especially gorgeous, and that stupid stupid smile you wear on your face whenever you talk to me, you're just so pretty and I'm sick and tired of not saying anything about it, and frankly, it frustrates me how pretty you are." He got out in one breath, which was honestly impressive.

His cheeks were painted a pretty pink, and he made a motive to not stare into Scar's eyes like he previously had, opting to stare at their intertwined hands instead.

Scar was on the verge of tears. He sniffed, which got Grian's eyes to follow back to his face, in which a look of surprise erupted on his face.

"Did I make you cry? Oh god, I'm sorry, I know that was probably really cheesy and stupid and I-" He stuttered, stumbling over his words like he was starting to regret what he said, and Scar would not let him regret a single thing he ever said.

"No, no, I'm sorry! I don't--" Scar swallowed.

"I don't even know why i'm crying. That was just, just so sweet." He said, laughing a bit, tears building up in his eyes.

Grian laughed with him, tears building up in his own eyes, more tears of relief than happiness, in a way, he assumes that G had been scared to tell him this, like he would be shunned. He squeezed Grian's hand a bit tighter.

"I have no clue why i'm crying either." He replied, raising his unoccupied hand to wipe at his eyes.

Scar let the tears build up in his eyes, blurring his vision but not yet spilling onto his cheeks.

"You're very pretty too, G."

The wind whistled a soft tune, running through both of their hair, there was still a soft golden hue covering them both, and it was absolutely gorgeous seeing the light spill onto Grian's face, an absolutely ethereal sight when he saw the way the sun just absolutely caressed his face and features, making every freckle look like little stars dotting his face.

Seeing the way Grian's face shifted to a look of hesitance, he continued.

"You are! I don't know, your freckles are gorgeous, for one. The way your hair is basically golden in the sun is especially amazing, I don't know what god crafted you but he sure took his sweet time doing it, cause dear lord you are absolutely beautiful. And- and that's not even the best part! The way you talk, the way you jump up and down when you're excited, the way your wings fluff up whenever you're feeling a strong emotion it's just- gosh! You are so very pretty, Grian."

His heart was beating fast. Like it wanted to flap its little heart wings and fly out of his mouth and land directly in Grian's hands.

Looking over at Grian, he noticed he was crying, sniffling all teary eyed and his nose a peach like color. He was using his hands to wipe at his eyes and the tips of his feathers that complimented his ears were all ruffled, like he was embarrassed. His wings had splayed out behind him, like he had relaxed just by sitting with Scar, the thought leaving a warm feeling in his chest.

Tear tracks covered his friend's face, and with a huff of air, Scar reached out to rest his hand against his cheek, rubbing at the tears rolling down his cheeks, and tried not to let his heart fly out of his chest as Grian leaned into the touch, burying his face into Scar's hand, one his own hands reaching up to hold the others against his face.

"Aw, come on, don't cry G! I only said what was true." He comforted, thumb caressing the other's cheek, a laugh building up in his throat as Grian groaned, cheeks flushing a pretty pink.

" This is so unfair.. " The other breathed, lifting his head up to stare Scar in the eyes once again.

"What?" Scar laughed.

"It's unfair that i'm calling you pretty when you called me pretty first? That sounds like you're being pretty unfair mister." He said, dropping his hand that was once resting against Grian's cheek, missing the feeling of soft skin with the touch of warmth from the sun against his hand, yearning to feel that feeling of love and desire forever.

He loves his friend a lot.

His friend.

..Yeah.
