Summary
The first time BigB saw Scar smile was in the orientation circle at the start of Third Life.
Scar wasn’t even looking at him. He was bustling excitedly in a random direction like everyone else, getting ready to collect materials and run into each other at random places and make teams and eventually kill each other.
The smile was excited, plain and simple. Scar was happy to be here, looking forward to the game. He had heard the pitch, heard the rules, signed the contract, felt the laws of the world plug into his code, and he was still expecting to have a good time.
That was dangerous, BigB decided.

Summary
There’s the sound of the door opening and he perks up, like he’s a dog and he thinks Lizzie just came back.
“Joel?”
And then it’s just Jimmy, who has his own copy of the keys because he’s the first person Lizzie would call in an emergency even though all he’d do is be the comic relief.
Joel blinks blearily. “Why aren’t you at the funeral?”
His voice cracks. He knew he was crying, but he sort of forgot. It’s been a bit.
Jimmy shrugs, hollow. “You weren’t there. I figured you’d be throwing a better pity party than they could.”
Joel’s brain does something at that joke, like it briefly considers being appalled and then realizes it can't be bothered to do anything much. “Your sister died last week.” He responds flatly
Jimmy sits down near Joel. “I’ve decided to become the funniest Solidarity sibling in her absence.”
“That’s not funny.” Joel points out.
“I know.” Jimmy isn't smiling.

Well, his therapist’s professional opinion had been “don’t trigger a primal slime fear response for a party trick” but a gegg clone hardly counted as a full split, he’s so small! Plus, this wasn’t a party trick, this was for Flippa! (Besides, all Roier had to say these days was that his daughter was a monster. Probably. He stopped going to therapy a while ago, Flippa didn’t like it when he went.)

He really can't help himself, even when Jason wants to kill him. Actually, Tim thinks that Jason wanting him dead only exacerbates the whole issue, but no one asks about it (because no one knows), so he never tells (and he never will).
