Chapter Text
It was a nice day, everyone was at the bar except for Alastor who was in his room, and Niffty who was off bug hunting. They were discussing the earlier drama between Alastor and Vox when suddenly there was a knock at the door. Everyone stopped talking as their eyes turned to look at the door. There was a moment of silence before Charlie squealed, hopping out of her chair.
“Ohmygosh, ohmygosh, ohmygosh, ohmygosh,” She started chanting, “What if its a sinner who saw our commercial and wants a chance at redemption?”
“Don't get ahead of yourself, babe.” Vaggi says, trying to calm her girlfriend down “Last time someone had the decency to knock we got stuck with the radio demon. Just see who it is before you get your hopes up.”
“Right.” Charlie said, trying to think realistically like Vaggie. She walked up to the door, taking a deep breath. When she opens it, she sees none other than Vox standing there. He notices Charlie and clears his throat to speak.
“Hi, Am I correct to assume this is Alastor’s current place of residence?”
“Um, yeah, one second.” She says, full of confusion, before closing the door and standing there, trying to wrap her head around what just happened.
“Who is it?” Vaggie calls over from where she's sitting at the bar.
“It’s Vox, he’s asking about Alastor, what do I do??” She asks, her thoughts finally catching up to her. What was Vox doing at their doorstep, just after he and Alastor had their fight. Was he here to get into a physical fight? He didn't seem hostile but who knows, Alastor seems charming most of the time and he's an insane serial killer.
“I don’t know,” Vaggie says, also trying to mentally sort out what the fuck just happened, “I suppose you should tell Alastor that he’s here.”
Charlie nods and heads upstairs. She walks to Alastor’s room and knocks on his door before calling. “Alastor, Vox is at the door, and he's asking for you, actually.”
Alastor opens his door, with a smile on his face. While it is common, and actually quite odd if that's not the case, this smile seems different. Almost makes his other smiles seem particularly fake.
“Wonderful, I’ve been expecting him.” he walks downstairs only to be stopped short by Vaggie.
“Hold on a second, if you’re going to fight, do it away from the hotel, we don’t need any more property damage after what happened to the wall this morning.”
“Fight? Whatever gave you the impression that we would fight?” He moves Vaggie aside, chuckling. He opens the door and Vox's face lights up when he sees him
“Vox, how good to see you.” Alastor opens his arms and pulls him in for a hug. They hug for a second before pulling apart again.
“Good to see you too, why didn’t you tell me you were back in town? I had to hear it from Valentino of all people.”
“Well, I figured it would get more of a rise out of you, and it turns out I was right. I quite liked our little tiff today.” Alastor chuckles, recalling their earlier fight.
“Me too, the reporters are bound to go crazy with that one.” Vox says, thinking back to the last big fight they had, and he could've sworn he'd still seen it on the papers some time recently.
“Hm, the gossips always did enjoy our fights, almost as much as you and I. Why don’t you come inside, we have a lot of catching up to do.” Aslastor opens the door wider and moves to the side in order for Vox to step into the hotel. He leads Vox into the foyer where everyone is watching this strange encounter. At this point they're all just standing there, still trying to understand what's happening, except for Husk, who's standing behind the bar unfazed.
“Everybody, this is Vox, my enemy and partner.” Alastor introduces him to the group, just making them more confused.
“Partner as in…?” Angel Dust asks, trying to gather if it was more of a ‘partners in crime’ thing or a ‘romantic life partners’ thing.
“As in many things” Alastor says, effectively explaining nothing. He turns to Vox, ignoring their confused looks “Would you like some coffee?”
“I would love some.” Vox answers.
They walk off to the kitchen, chatting about lost times as the others continue to stand there, shocked and befuddled. Husk just chuckles.
“Of course.” He mumbles under his breath
“You know something about this, whiskers?” Angel Dust asks as they all walk back to te bar
“One, don’t call me that, and two, I know too much about this. They used to do this all the time before Alastor disappeared. They would have some big public fight, but would act all romantic behind closed doors. The only other people who know about it are Niff and the other overlords, apparently they like to keep up appearances in public, but it's fine for me to have to witness their PDA.”
-------------------------------------
While this is happening, Alastor and Vox are making up for lost time in the kitchen. Alastor has started brewing a pot of coffee and they are talking about something that Valentino did a few back. They burst into a fit of laughter at how stupid his coworker is when the coffee pot beeps. Their laughter slows to a stop as Aslastor pours them both coffee. Vox takes a sip while Alastor is putting creamer in his own cup.
“I missed this.” Vox says, looking down at the table. “I missed you.”
Alastor finishes stirring his coffee, smiling down at it sadly
“You were gone for so long, I was starting to think you weren’t coming back.”
“Well, you were foolish for doubting me” Alastor says matter-of-factly, bringing his coffee cup up to his mouth “I told you I’d be back, didn’t I? And seven years later, here I am.” He punctuates his sentence with a sip of his coffee
“Here you are” Vox smiles and watches him sip his coffee before cupping the side of his face and pulling him in for a kiss.
They kiss for a few seconds before pulling away and staring into eachothers eyes lovingly. But then Vox decides to ruin the moment.
“Have I ever told you about the time that I punched Satan?” He asks, knowing full well that he has.
“Ugh, not this again. I hoped you'd be over this by the time I got back.”
“Well, you were foolish for doubting my pride.” Vox says, twisting his words against him. “Anyways, it was 20 years ago, and Val had brought me to this sketchy club.” Vox retells his story for what feels like the hundredth time, but Alastor doesn't mind, he likes listening to Vox talk. He could do it for the rest of his afterlife.
