They missed it. The day came and went, forgotten in a flurry of panic that came when moving bases. Nobody noticed, nobody but the three left.

Summary
Vox had imagined pregnancy differently.
He imagined late-night conversations, shared plans, arguments over baby names..
Alastor is always busy. Always somewhere else. Always treating Vox's attempts to reach him as another inconvenience.
Vox had slowly learned to stay quiet.
Alastor took that silence as a sign that nothing was wrong.
So when Alastor was offered the chance to gain more power than he had ever possessed, he accepted without a second thought.
After all, what could possibly go wrong?
Vox is at home. The baby is safe. There is nothing for him to worry about.
At least, that's what Alastor believes.
Until he comes home and realizes that the silence isn't supposed to be there.

Summary
He stares disconnectedly down at his rippling reflection in the slow growing puddle between his feet. All he sees is the pathetic and weak beast Alastor had sneered about.
Friendship in Hell. What a cruel fucking joke.
The falling rain obscures his face in the dirty puddle. It's nearly impossible to see his weeping eye. Nearly impossible to read his expression at all.
A vague plan starts to take shape. Something he should have considered long ago. Alastor had always poked fun at him for wearing his heart on his sleeve, for being so expressive and wide eyed. Well no more. Maybe…never again.

Summary
Charlie took a deep breath. “We believe Vox committed suicide. The Vees have given their statement. They say he became increasingly unstable during his campaign, but snapped after Alastor tricked him into breaking their deal. The suicide was not premeditated, but impulsive.”
Alastor tried to force himself to move, but the electric signals firing in his brain weren’t reaching his limbs. He wanted to scream, but the air was trapped in his chest. Every cell in his body was dying, the blood stagnating under his skin, unshed, unwept. He turned the words over in his head. Suicide. Dead. Vox is dead. Vox committed suicide. Dead, dead, dead. Vox is dead? Dead. Suicide. He killed himself. He’s gone. Dead. None of it stuck long enough to process. The moment the thought entered his mind it flitted away like a bird, clean and transparent and intangible, little ghosts sliding through his fingers.

Or, an alternate ending to S2 where everything is the same except Vox dies before Valentino can rip his head off. Alastor is left alone to deal with the aftermath and confront what Vox actually meant to him, and why his loss is so devastating.

Summary
Vox has hit rock bottom, and Alastor isn't about to miss the chance to kick him while he's down. Besides, Vox always bounces back no matter what happens, which is what makes their little rivalry so entertaining.
Except Vox isn't fighting back. The reaction that Alastor is used to is replaced with this blank, peaceful look that makes Alastor’s skin crawl.
No matter how much Alastor pushes or prods, he can't get a single rise out of him. It’s entirely wrong. It’s not Vox. And worst of all? It’s not fun. Because the game only works if both sides are playing.

Summary
Freedom loses its charm the moment Alastor enters his first rut cycle. With a hundred years of suppressed ruts to make up for, biological imperative becomes a leash all its own. Overcome by newfound urges, he finds himself drawn to the Entertainment District—guided by some forgotten inner compass to the promise safety, in shades of blue.
Only Vox has every reason to turn him away. And unless they can find a way to work through decades of resentment before his rut fully takes hold, Alastor may just be shit out of luck.
