Notes:

Happy New Lunar Year everyone! I decided to post this due to this being the Year of the Dragon, along with Hiccup's birthday coming later on.

I'll add more tags in the later future as this goes on.

Chapter Text

Varian tried his best to wake up. His back felt a bit sore, even though he figured that sleeping in the cold prison bed was not comfortable. Although he wasn't sure if it can rock a lot in the first place.

As he was able to see better, fear almost rose up in his mind. The place was not Corona. This rather looked like the captain's quarters of a ship. And yet Varian was sitting down near the desk.

Varian looked up. His gloved hands were shackled above. It was restrict a lot of his movement as he tried to get up, although his struggle was also for another reason.

The boat was rocking very heavy. Even making a few stuff in the room to roll over. It was almost hard for Varian to get his balance back as it kept happening.

Varian started tugging hard on his chains. He could tell that the chains were not looking well, having analyzed metals even before the Blizzard Incident. It would be somewhat easy to break the chains when pulling on wood.

Varian tried a few times while simply standing, which was until another hard rocking of the ship made him slip and slide a bit to the left. This gave Varian an idea, and allowed himself to move more towards wherever the rocking goes as he tried harder to pulling on the chain. This was done a few times before the chain finally snapped and got cut off from the wooden wall. Although the rocking would not stop, Varian still kept walking towards the door. He wanted out of here immediately, he had much to do back at Corona.

When he opened the door, there was a lot to see outside. There were a vast number of people with weapons already fighting what was attacking. What really caught his attention was the swarm of creatures.

Giant, brown, roaring, legless, and flying creatures. Varian couldn't understand what he was looking at. They had large wings, and also spat some kind of oil-based substance a few times.

They kept attacking from all the sides of the boat. The crew tried their best attacking with pole arms and crossbows, but somehow the creatures kept breaking the wooden part of both the boat and the weapons like they were nothing.

The creatures were even slicing the parts of the boats where it would get water inside. The ship would sink at any time.

Varian scooted carefully towards the deck, making sure he wasn't found by the crew as he looked for a way to escape. Unfortunately, one person caught him.

A tan skinned bearded man with a scar running through his right face and also wearing a blue cloak. That was when a flash of memories came to Varian. This was the guy that came to his cell back at Corona, who also knocked him out.

Varian only acted through reflex as he ran towards an port of the boat and jumped off. The water felt super cold as he struggled to swim back up to the shore, not to mention he had his eyes closed. He remembered the small swimming lessons that were at the back of his head.

Once he was able to get his head out of the water and be able to breath, he could see the attacked ship. It was already starting to sink and people were also jumping off. There was even a few pieces of wood floating in the water. One of them was near Varian, so he grabbed it without a second thought. This would help with his swimming. He had to find land quick.

As he swam to who knows where, his mind kept going back to the creatures. He had read about animals that were even outside of Corona, but none of them were like those flying creatures that attacked the ship.

What seemed like a long time swimming finally came to an end as Varian spotted something not far. An actual island. The excitement got adrenaline into his body as he started swimming even harder.

He felt very tired after getting onto the dry sand. Not to mention that the sun was setting already. Finding a place to rest was important, plus it didn't look like there would be any trouble on this island. There was a tree close to the shore. It looked a bit perfect for Varian to lean onto the trunk and lie down.

The shade from the tree felt cooler as he started to drowse into sleep. Varian would worry about food the next day.
