Work Text:
I wake up to soda shaking me. “Wha-? Soda?” soda sighs, “hey, Pony. You're late for school.” That makes me stand up and start getting ready for school. I run downstairs after I change and grab a piece of toast, saying bye to Darry before I run out the house and run to school.
Timeskip to after school, because I lazy af
Darry said me and Johnny could hang out today, even allowed me to be out after curfew! “Hey Jonnycake!” I shouted, coming up behind Johnny and putting my arm around his shoulder. Johnny laughs and grins, “hey, Pony.” We started walking away from the school. Not anywhere in particular. Just walking. We made our way to a random clearing, a hill that had a tree. The tree was random, as if someone planted it there for no reason. We sat there talking for a long time. We talked about anything and everything. I was leaning on Johnny's shoulder as he leaned against the tree. We were facing the sunset.
“Golly…that's pretty..” Johnny said after a while, not looking away from the sunset. “Yeah..” I responded. Then I'm hit with a sense of deja vu. Where did I hear that before? My eyebrows furrow as I look back through my memories to find that specific moment. I hum and rest my head on Johnny's shoulder again, giving up on the memory. This all felt so wonderful. Johnny, the sunset, the hill and tree, it all felt like a dream–wait.
I open my eyes–when did I close them? I see my room ceiling, the spot next to me cold where Soda usually was. It's dark out. Where could he have gone at this hour? And that's when it hits me. The fountain, the church, the rumble. Oh..that's right. Johnny, Dally and Soda are dead.
