No POV:
Ponyboy opens the door to an empty house, which was only unusual since it was a lucky day where Darry had a day off that wasn’t Sunday. Ponyboy walks in and sits on the couch, starting on some homework.
It was around 30 minutes later when Ponyboy started to get worried by how silent the house was. Ponyboy sighs and sets down his homework, knowing he could do it once he finds Darry.
Ponyboy walks around the house and finds no one there. The last room Ponyboy has to check is Darry’s bedroom, so he makes his way over and knocks on the door. Ponyboy frowns as he doesn’t get a response. Was Darry even still in the house? He should be, his car was still in the driveway..
Ponyboy opens the door and looks around the room, still not seeing anyone. “Darry? Are you in here?” Ponyboy asks as he walks into the room fully. Ponyboy looks more and gasps as he sees splattered blood on the wall.
Ponyboy looks down to see Darry lying in a pool of blood near his head, a gun dropped on the floor next to him. Ponyboy looks at the wall again and sees chunks in it, realizing it was probably chunks of Darry’s brain.
Ponyboy gags and runs off to the bathroom quickly with a hand over his mouth. Ponyboy throws up in the toilet and starts sobbing as he throws up again. Ponyboy’s breaths come in short gasps as tears stream down his face.
Ponyboy couldn’t even understand why Darry did this. It didn’t look like an accident to Ponyboy.
Ponyboy throws up again and sits in the bathroom for a while, not even thinking about how he should call someone or check to see if there was a chance Darry was still alive.
Ponyboy feels his breaths start to pick up again, so he tries to calm himself down by thinking about the ways Darry taught him. But thinking about them only made it worse as he thought about Darry’s lifeless body laying just in a room over.
Ponyboy sets his head in his hands as the image of Darry laying on the ground in a pool of his own blood burns into his brain, being the only thing he sees when he closes his eyes.
Ponyboy throws up again.
