Relationships are confusing

Summary:

"Mi corazón, I must have misheard you; may you repeat the question?"

Wednesday hears Yoko's giggling alongside Divina's, which in situations like this tend to indicate that nothing good is going to happen. Still, she is willing to give Enid the benefit of the doubt.

"Would you love me if I was a worm?" Enid questions again, this time the words are pronounced with just a bit more strength behind them.

The goth blinks. The hand that was going to put the last pin onto the vellum that would secure the wing of her Acronicta americana now lays frozen as her brain tries to come up with something to say.

"What?" The fact that her first instinct is not putting Enid's intelligence into question is truly a testament of how much love she harbors for the blonde werewolf.

Chapter Text

Wednesday doesn't understand Enid's desire for praise or affirmation.

She can understand where it comes from, having a home life where one is consistently treated as a second-class person within their own family can certainly result in that person developing behavioral tendencies that aim to maximize the amount of compliments and/or affection/love that they will receive from certain individuals. Wednesday can understand part of the nature behind it, and she would lie if she claimed that she doesn't enjoy the feeling of being complimented every once in a while, but what she doesn't understand is Enid's thirst for reassurance. Thirst that no doubt is responsible for the situation that Wednesday is finding herself into at the moment.

"Willa!" Enid whines at the same time that Yoko breaks into a small fit of laughter.

With a sigh, Wednesday puts away her insect pin and turns her head to look at her girlfriends. The three of them are still laying on her bed, with Divina sitting while Yoko is laying down next to Enid, who is using the vampire's bicep as a pillow of sorts.

"Wrong answer." Yoko murmurs, her eyes locked on her phone screen.

"Girls, come on. Just let her be." Divina tries to reason, but Wednesday has already shifted her focus onto them so she might as well continue the topic.

"How is my answer wrong?" She asks with a frown, more of confusion than anything else. "I refuse to even engage with such a question."

"Please..." Enid's puppy eyes come from nowhere, but Wednesday was already prepared for such a dirty tactic so she remains strong.

"..."

Upon noticing that Wednesday will not succumb to her tricks, Enid throws her arms in the air, prompting a small curse from the vampire underneath her. "It's not fair!" The blonde girl grumbles. "I have three girlfriends and they are all mean to me!"

"How the fuck was I mean?!" Yoko interjects, but Enid seems to be really set on her claim.

"You said you would keep me in a compost bin!"

"Do you want me to give a worm a fucking bed or what?!"

Wednesday ignores her bickering girlfriends and makes eye contact with Divina. "May I know what your answer was, mi amor?"

The siren smirks and pets Enid's head. "I said that worms are able to regenerate lost parts... And then I asked if I could cut worm-Enid in half to duplicate her."

Yoko turns off her phone screen and turns her head towards Divina. "That wasn't even funny, that was just weird."

Divina raises an eyebrow, an unimpressed expression now on her face. "And keeping her in a box of rotten things isn't weird?"

Had Wednesday been asked, she would've said that: No, keeping a worm in a compost bin would not be weird. But since Yoko was the one questioned, the vampire answers with more annoyance than an actual argument.

"She'd be a worm!"

"My army of Enids would be worms too!"

As her girlfriends argue amongst themselves about the apparent morality of their answers, Wednesday quickly places the last pin that will secure her new insect to its piece of foam. Satisfied with her work, the goth turns around in her seat to better face her three girlfriends that continue to bicker on her black bed.

"Mi corazón," She calls, prompting Enid to look at her again. "I do not know what kind of answer you were expecting from me, but my love for you is not something that exists merely due to a whim."

The latina stands up from her seat near her desk and begins to walk towards her bed.

"It is something that has grown over the time that I had the privilege of spending at your side. I love you because you aren't afraid to confront me; I love you because you show strength even when the situation overwhelms you."

Wednesday takes off her shoes and climbs onto the bed. Without bothering to ask for permission, she sits on Divina's lap. She feels how the siren's hands move automatically to circle her waist and pull her closer, securing her in place.

"Rude." Divina murmurs, her lips ghosting over Wednesday's covered shoulder. Still, the goth doesn't get distracted, for she has a message to deliver.

"I love you for who you are, Enid. I love you for the way in which you express your soul through the way in you act; I love you for the way in which you show me those joke images from your phone, even though you know that I will never find them funny; I love you for the generosity you show even to those who don't deserve it; I love you for the strength you have despite every attempt that others have underwent to put you down."

The latina loops her arms around her siren's neck, at the same time that her brown eyes find Yoko's red ones. "I love you all for who you are, and I hope that I will remain by your side so that I can love you for who you will be."

Closing her eyes to try and ignore the looks that are coming from her girlfriends, Wednesday continues talking. "But if any of you turn into worms, I would stop loving you. Perhaps I would use you to feed a spider."

After she's done talking, the room is once again filled with the sound of laughter, insults and whining. But Wednesday doesn't mind, because honesty is an important part of any relationship.

Wednesday doesn't understand Divina's constant search of physical contact.

Had she ever voiced that sentiment to anyone, they would have likely responded like it is the most obvious thing in the world. ‘Wednesday Addams doesn't understand affection.’ isn't the most shocking of sentences. But, to be fair to herself, that sentence would be nothing more than a gross misinterpretation of what she means when she talks about the siren's tendencies.

The first time she had noticed the fact that Divina seems to actively seek physical contact was during one of the first times that Enid had convinced the goth to allow the siren and vampire couple to spend some time in their room. Even though Wednesday had maintained a safe distance and avoided any direct interaction with them, she still couldn't help but notice the happy girlfriends' antics.

The vampire was surprisingly reserved when it came to showing affection while in their presence, something that the siren had no apparent trouble (nor shame) in compensating for. Hand holding, multiple types of hugging, cheek kissing, and all of that had occurred just during the first time that they were invited by the werewolf. Over the following months and the next (ever more common) visits, the list had expanded to include mouth kisses and shoulder kisses. Truly shameless behavior from the couple to show off the love they had for one another.

But perhaps the worst part of it all was the fact that Wednesday didn't necessarily hate the displays of affection from the sweethearts.

As a matter of fact, she used to find some semblance of warmth in her chest every time she was forced to witness the girlfriends' antics. At that time, she had convinced herself that such feeling was nothing more than a manifestation of the yearning she felt for the idea of having her own relationship with Enid. Now -a year later- she can admit that her explanation wasn't entirely right. Since the beginning of their new relationship, even Wednesday has fallen prey to sudden displays of physical affection from the siren that never fail to make her heart beat with embarrassing adoration. But perhaps the one who has benefited the most from the new nature of their bond is Enid, sweet Enid who has always respected Wednesday's desire for her own space and has managed to find a new outlet for and source of love and affection in the form of their beautiful siren.

Something else that the goth has learned over time is that Yoko is indeed similar to her in many regards, with one of them being the fact that the vampire will always accept and enjoy any form of affection that is bestowed upon her, but at the same time she will seldom be the one who initiates physical contact. It isn't something good nor bad, it is merely a characteristic of her that the addams girl has grown to understand and love just as much as every other detail that she has come to learn about the vampire. Although there is a mundane instance in which this pattern tends to break, and it seems to be a central habit of Yoko's relationship with Divina. A pattern that started well befor—

"Penny for your thoughts?"

Wednesday blinks at Yoko's question.

Remembering where she is, Wednesday watches as Divina and Enid walk away, possibly in search of that treat that Enid had mentioned during their walk through the park. A disgustingly loving feeling settles down on her chest at the way in which the siren tries to connect their hands discreetly, only for the werewolf to cling to her arm as they continue their path.

The goth turns her head to look at her companion on the bench. Yoko is giving her a side-glance, the smile on her face undoubtedly the product of whatever headspace Wednesday had been submerged in.

"I do not need your money, mi vida."

Wednesday knows that her answer is idiotic, but she couldn't care less about such a thing when said answers earns her a chuckle and an eyeroll from her girlfriend.

"Whatever."

As Yoko's attention returns to her phone, Wednesday allows herself to just admire the vampire's profile. She will always lament that the nature of their being forces vampires to wear sunglasses to protect their eyes against the day's brightness, because, and while it is true that they compliment Yoko's appearance, there are instances where the goth would just like to admire those red irises and the way in which they glow when the sun rays are able to reach them without obstacle.

Realistically speaking, she probably could do that. Enid has set the dangerous precedent of lifting the tanaka's sunglasses, if only to annoy the black-haired girl as retaliation for a prior offense. Even Divina has stolen Yoko's sunglasses on multiple occasions, although to be fair that has always happened in a controlled environment where the vampire's sensitivity issues wouldn't be a problem. But as fun as those kinds of interaction might be for her girlfriends, Wednesday doesn't really want to be a bother... But, again, realistically speaking there would be no way for anyone to sto—

"You're being a weirdo." Yoko says with a smile, her eyes trained on whatever it is she is typing.

"Hm." Wednesday concedes, because staring in the way in which she has been doing is usually something a weirdo would do.

Releasing a sigh through her nose, Wednesday leans her head against the vampire's shoulder. If she has to wait for Enid and Divina to come back, she might as well be comfortable while doing so.

And while she doesn't understand Divina's constant pursuit of physical affection, that doesn't mean that she can't enjoy it every once in a while.

Wednesday doesn't understand Yoko's enjoyment of biting.

That on its own sounds rather foolish when Yoko's vampiric nature is put into consideration. It would be truly bizarre to think of a vampire that doesn't enjoy the act of biting as a medium to obtain the blood they need to consume... But there lies the issue, Yoko's enjoyment of biting goes beyond the feeding aspect of it. That is what Wednesday doesn't understand.

Before the beginning of their new relationship, back when only Divina and Yoko were a couple, Wednesday always found her attention being drawn by Divina's right ring finger. And while it is true that the siren possesses beautiful hands that are nice to look at, the reason behind the goth's focus on that specific digit were (and still are) the small scars that cover it.

The addams girl has lost count of how many times she has tried to count the number of individual scars that mark her girlfriend's digit. There have been some instances where the goth has congratulated their vampire lover for the obvious amount of dedication that must have been put into the marking, a process that began long before the raven and the werewolf became part of their relationship.

Most days, Wednesday won't really put much thought into it. And usually there's not much reason to do so, whenever Yoko gets asked about the reason behind doing something like that she just shrugs or says some variation of the act of ‘marking her property’. And when Divina gets asked about it she just says that ‘when you date a vampire, being a chew toy is part of the experience’. But Wednesday is dating a vampire. The same vampire that Divina is dating, and yet that is just not true at all.

Wednesday has never been bitten by Yoko in such a manner, neither has Enid. So, whatever the reason behind it might be, it must be linked to Divina... Maybe there is something innate that makes it so it is fun to bite her?

In her own defense, the situation in which she is in does not provide the necessary characteristics for her to not be weird. And while it is true that Enid is not present in the room due to her need to study for a test, Wednesday is still in Divina's room. She is still sitting on the siren's bed; holding (and staring at) the siren's right hand, while said siren is laying down next to her. And Divina is still running her left hand through Yoko's black hair while the vampire sleeps peacefully with her head on top of her chest. So, really, Wednesday cannot possibly be blamed for letting such a nice environment cloud her good judgement.

"I want to bite you."

The treacherous words escape her mouth before her brain is able to stop them and save her pride.

Divina's hand stops its movement across Yoko's hair. The siren doesn't say anything for a few seconds, she doesn't even look at Wednesday, as a matter of fact. It is only after their vampiric girlfriend begins to stir in her sleep that the brown-haired girl reacts, her hand reassuming its previous moment through long black hair. The vampire lets out a small sigh through her nose and regains her peaceful slumber.

"Yeah?" Divina whispers, finally turning her head to regard Wednesday.

Despite the obvious death of the raven's shame and self-respect, there is no judgement in her girlfriend's expression. Instead of the (more than justified) look of confusion that her question should have received, Wednesday is instead rewarded with a small smile.

"Do you want to bite me there?" The siren asks, her eyes glancing towards her scarred finger.

"No, that one is Yoko's"

She doubts that the vampire would mind, but the idea of biting it still feels... inappropriate in a sense. Like she is meddling into something that is not her business.

Divina nods like Wednesday said something obvious instead of something fully idiotic. The goth appreciates that.

"Go ahead, as long as you don't draw blood."

Fair enough.

Wednesday secures her hold on the siren's right hand and brings it closer to her face. She looks at it for a moment longer, questioning if she is really going to do it.

It is only after hearing the sound of Divina planting a kiss against the vampire's head that Wednesday decides to just go along with it. And so, she brings the hand closer to her mouth and bites the area around the pointer finger's middle knuckle. And now, with her teeth applying a fair amount of pressure on Divina's digit, Wednesday can confirm that she still doesn't understand Yoko's enjoyment of biting.

Easing the bite, the goth fixes her eyes on the siren's digit. She can see the small indents that her teeth -more specifically her canines- have formed on the skin, along with a faint mark that pretty clearly formed by her incisors.

While moderately entertaining if only for the aspect of being able to cause a slight sense of discomfort to someone she loves, Wednesday still doesn't get what the vampire sees in this. And while it is true that, unlike Wednesday, Yoko has the capacity of piercing the skin with her teeth, the addams maintains that it wouldn't be reason enough for the amount of times that Yoko has bitten Divina.

Moving the hand again, this time Wednesday bites at the base of the thumb, only to find the zone to be unnecessarily uncomfortable for what she is trying to do. Humming to herself, Wednesday closes her teeth on the skin of the siren's wrist.

"This isn't, like, a super comfortable position, by the way." Divina whispers with a small amount of humour in her tone.

Just because of that, Wednesday applies more pressure on the bite, enough to send a message to her girlfriend. This time, when she lets go of the skin, she can see the clear marks created by her teeth, and she stares as they begin the slow process of going away now that the pressure has been lifted.

She should try to bite the thumb again.

...

Maybe Wednesday does understand Yoko's enjoyment of biting.

Notes:

While I was writing this, I thought about making a fic that would be basically the reverse of this, so it would be things that Divina, Enid and Yoko don't understand about Wednesday. I'm not sure how I would go about it, but please let me know if you'd be interested in reading that :p
