Chapter 1: Prologue

Chapter Text

Shockingly enough, very few people knew about the magical flower's existence. Said to have magical healing properties just from singing a song, it’s no wonder whoever was using it at the moment would want to keep it a secret. That was until it was taken out of the forest, and was used for the last time.

The queen had fallen ill while pregnant with her child. Deathly ill. The king had searched for a cure everywhere, tried everything. He’d heard about the existence of the flower through rumors, and sent guards out into the forest for weeks upon end.

Luckily for the royal couple, they were able to find it. The child was born; a healthy, beautiful baby boy named Enjolras. His hair was as bright as the sun, with eyes that were as blue as the sky.

To celebrate his birth, the king and queen released a single lantern into the sky, followed by lanterns from their citizens themselves. It was a joyous occasion, and the entire kingdom was looking forward to the growth and development of the newborn prince.

Unfortunately, the birth of Enjolras made one man very angry. A man named Montaparnasse, who had been using the flower to keep himself young and beautiful up until it was taken by the guards for the queen. It had been weeks since he had last used its powers, thanks to the birth of the prince, and his appearance was already starting to falter. Slight wrinkles and gray hairs adorned his face, and he couldn’t stand it anymore.

In an act to keep himself pure and out of spite against the king and queen, he kidnapped the young prince. Montparnasse took him to a tall tower tucked into the back of the woods, where he was certain nobody could find Enjolras.

Montparnasse convinced Enjolras that he was his older brother, protecting him from a world that took their parents from them because of Enjolras' magical hair. And over the years, Enjolras’ hair got longer and longer, and his powers strengthened with his age.

As he got older and older, Enjolras grew more curious and curious about the outside world, but never dared to leave the tower. The entire kingdom realized he was lost, and to raise awareness for what happened to their beloved prince, they released lanterns everyday on his birthday. All the meanwhile, Enjolras was locked away in the tower, thanks to Montparnasse’s doing. Until one fateful day…
