Work Text:
“Blood God.” said a voice from behind Tommy.
“Lady Death.” He said to her as he turned around to face her.
“Tommy.” She repeated.
“Kristin.” He responded back with a tight smile. He knew this wasn’t going to be a pleasant conversation, Kristen rarely leaves her domain unless it's for something important.
“You killed my Angel.” Oh, so that's what this is about.
Tommy scoffed, “So? You have a million people who would
die
to serve you, can go make another one.”
Kristin frowned, unimpressed, “You know that's not how it works. You also know that Philza was special to me.”
“You’ll get over it.” Tommy said, voice hard, with an infliction as if he was repeating something said to him.
“What happened to you, Toms?” Kristen said, clicking her tongue, “First eradicating a server full of mortals, now this attitude?” She had the gall to sound disappointed.
“You-” Tommy’s voice cracked, “You dont get to fucking ask me that Kristin. You want to know what happened to me? Your fucking angel happened to me. His family. That server.” Tommy's voice broke off at the end.
“What?” Kristin said, truly confused, her brows furrowing together.
“He said- He said he’d love me like a father.” Tommy said, his voice barely audible for anyone who didn't have superior hearing. “ He promised he’d love me(/p u freaks). You promised he would love me! But he didn't” He said, a single tear rolling down his cheek. “He didn't,” Tomm repeated. “None of them didn’t. No one, no one knew who I was yet they still regaled me as a monster. ”His voice said with a crack. He looked up to Kristin, his eyes a pale gray, no emotion shining through, not sorrow, not anger, nothing. “Tell me Kristin. Am I that unlovable that even mortals cannot care about me?”
“Oh honey,” Kirstin said, her voice full of regret and sadness and a mix of other emotions Tommy couldn't quite distinguish. “I'm sorry. I'm so sorry.”
“I tried so hard.” Tommy said, voice soft. “I tried so hard to make them love me. An- and you wanna know the worst part? I loved all of them. They- they were like a family to me. Why couldn't they love me back?” He said with a soft frown. “Why- why am I not good enough?”
“I'm sorry.” The Goddess of Death repeated. What had she let them put her son through? “I never meant-” She said, her throat closing up.
“I know.” Tommy said. “I know you didn't know. And that's what sucks. I cant- I cant be mad at you, cause you didn't know . You didn't know.” His voice thick with emotions.
“I never should've- I should've checked up on you.” She says, regret clear in her voice. “Philza- Philza told me everything was okay. I thought everything was okay.”
“You asked about me?” He said, voice full of disbelief.
“Every time Phil visited me.” She said with a smile.
“I thought-” Tommy cut himself off without finishing the sentence.
“I care for you, Tommy.” Kristin said gently. “You are not unlovable. You are not a monster. I'm sorry that we let you believe that. You didn't deserve that Tommy.”
Tommy just stared at her, his eyes blue and full of sadness. He was only 16 centuries old. She should never have agreed to her son being sent down to live with mortals. Even though he agreed to it. She would never be able to begin to apologize for what she had put her son through. Emotions were hard for those who lived so long, but Tommy always loved so freely, despite his ruthless reputation. How could she have let her son lose some of that love?
“My time here is up, I must return to my domain.” She said regretfully.
Tommy just nodded, looking away.
“You should visit me sometime.” Hope in her eyes, a soft smile on her lips.
“Okay mum.” He said, smiling in turn. “Sometime.”
And with that, a small crack in the Blood God's heart was healed. Maybe, just maybe, things would be okay.
