But the texts don’t stop like Alec expects them to. There’s another one that comes through, hours later when it’s close to midnight, and the warbled ding! makes him fumble the chisel.

The blade falls dangerously close to stabbing his sock clad foot, and a quiet, “Shit.” leaves his lips out of relief when it just misses it. Maybe wood carving barefoot wasn’t his brightest of ideals.

He reaches for the chisel when there’s another ding! of his phone. Who the hell is texting this late? Scratch that, who the hell is texting him at all?
